Was wondering if people like to buy their clothes on-line or in-person ? Both would seem to have their advantages and disadvantages.

Shopping in person is great. But since I don't drive I often order online.

I much prefer shopping in person and do about 65% of my shopping that way now. I still buy some online, particularly shoes (I Love Zappos).

I buy some everyday things from WalMart and Goodys, but I really like Fashion Bug and Lane Bryant. There are not too many other clothiers that offer plus size fashions in this area.

Online gives me access to a world of the exotic; the highstreet the ability to try before I buy.

I have to buy in person, because I live with my parents, and I would have nowhere to get the things delivered.

They certainly do have the advantages. Online you can get just about anything you want quick as a flash and with no embarrassment. Trouble is it may not be quite what you expected!

In person, you get to see the product better, feel the material, try it on if you dare and in the course of browsing you see stuff you didn't intend to buy that you like so much you buy as well!

A good way to start shopping in person is in the christmas shopping rush, no one will look twice at you browsing the racks!

I a girl who is trying to start a wardrobe I find that in the UK there
are a very good selection of little used clothing ,with variuos styles
and all in good charity shops,
also ,the ladies who run the stores don't seem to care if a "man" buys
a frilly blouse

I buy online for three reasons,

1. I hate going into town

2. I can never get what I want in town

3. I have more chance of getting what I want online.

In person. In person. In person. And try them on. Even if it's a Saturday morning, the store is packed with girls and the salespersons bark at you. Put on your best smile and do whatever it takes to really know how they fit. Don't settle for the Internet thing: first, it takes all the fun out of shopping, and second, you don't know what it really looks like on you until you tried it, no matter how beautiful it looks in the picture.

I do both. Online gives some choices for larger size items (especially shoes) that you often can't find in the stores. But, I prefer to buy in person (while dressed enfemme) so I can try the items on to make sure they fit and that I like the way they look on me.

So far most of my stuff has been online. I've even gotten some really nice things from India that way. But this coming weekend I'll be hitting the mall as Coldwater Creek has a store where I'll be and I need to return something anyway. Another first!

Buying off ebay is cheap, but only good for certain items like undies.

Much better to shop in the stores. You get to see the clothes, feel the fabric, try them on to find the right size, asking the sales assistants whether an item suits you is fun.

The only slight annoyance is when I am just browsing, and a sales assistant asks whether I am alright. No answer except to say I am fine thanks - doh!!

Oh returns are easy (which shouldn't be needed if you try the clothes on first though).

I wonder whether the future will bring virtual touch to the internet. Seeing and feeling the clothes as if in a store. Surely not - that's fantasy land at the mo!!

I prefer to shop online. I do not have the confidence to shop in person for shoes and clothes. Online is so much easier. I did but some shoes in person once, but it was too unnerving.

theres nothing better than going around the shops, I always go in drAB as I never been out otherwise but i love it, used to be confidence thing but now i will stride up to the Till and smile as I buy my next beautiful item, also i am happy to just go through the rails like any woman would on a sale day, get some looks someitmes (this is my section!!) I think it is everbodys section so that dont bother me neither, I have had more accepting smiles than dirty looks, I think I give off the "look at me Im buying!! For myself" look, but my advice is it is like riding a bike the more you get on the easier it gets go for it girl and shop till you drop!! :hugs:

I order a bit online but you cant beat the real thing and you get to check the item out properly, obviously the advantage is not leaving the house and using a diff id especially if you are in the closet but if you dont care go out, if you cant make it out to the shops then the internet is your best Friend
ahhhhh Google every girl should have one :D

Hi, I shop in person one-to-one in bigger cities (S.F., L.A., or N.Y.C.). Otherwise I find I'm more comfortable shopping with a partner or I just order online. Just my comfort/confidence level. Cheri.

If anyone is worried about shopping in person - don't be too worried.

1) Sales people are just doing their job, and are often quite nice people :)

2) Everyone else shopping doesn't really care you're looking as well. If they have any ounce of sense, they'll recognise the fact that you have as much right to be there as they do - no matter what shop you're in. It's a shop - isn't it? And you have money, don't you?

Exactly. :p

I do most all of my shopping in person. Occasionally, I will order from a catalog if I see something that I really like. Most all of my shopping is done in drab, and in most all cases I will try on in the store.

Today, I had a new shopping experience. At our local mall, I was shopping for something else and passed a store called Maurices. I glanced in the window and decided to go in. I had never been in the store before. It was early in the day and I only saw one other customer in the store. I saw a nice black lacy cami that I liked, and they had the white crinkle cotton tunic to go with it. This store carries only junior sizes, so I wasn't sure of the size fitting me. A young woman walked over to me (found out later she is the store manager) and asked if I needed help. I looked at her and told her that I was a cd, and I liked the cami and tunic, but wasn't sure of the junior sizing fitting well. Her response was a smile and "cool", why don't you go in and try them on. Before going to the fitting room, she took me over and showed me the black, skinny leggings that would go with the outfit. I took all three items into the dressing room. They all fit well. I got all three. We talked a bit at the register as I paid for the items. She invited me to come back in anytime and shop. She said that she has had other men shopping in her store, and she knew they were buying for themselves, but they would not come out and say it. She said that she appreciated my honesty. Now, I don't consider that to be difficult at all. That's why I like to shop in person.

Far better than online, i like to shop at Charity shops... you get a more humble service at the check out, better clothes than the chain shops and at a better price too. Chain stores sell really crappy mass produced cheapy stuff, cottons and wools etc... I'm the more sensuous girl who likes the softer materials... polyester, viscose, silks, chiffon, tafetta and satins... so cottons so boring.

Those thin mesh plastic panties who the heck invented them lol, they are as comfortable as wearing chicken fence wire panties geez they are so rough..(more mass produced cheapy crap!!!) nah silkys for me lol... much better quality clothes are to be gotten by charity shops nowadays i think. besides not only am i doing myself a favour at getting a worthy bargain and being happy with that... I am also helping out a worthy needy cause and they are happy... so to me two happies = a right!!!!!!!!!!

I normally go dressed to them anyway and use the changing room to try on various ensemble and buy that way, at least I know i like the feel and the quality, and most important that it fits me... Plus a nice wide skirt or dress perfect lol...

I've only bought a few items so far, but I always say that I'm buying for my SO.

I do think however that on more than one occasion, I had not been all too convincing. :p

Now that I think about it... shopping on-line would probably be a good thing for a girl like me! But I do like the excitement of walking into a store with an idea of what to get even though, more time than not, I leave without a thing. I get too nervous even under the flase pretense.

I like shopping in person 'cause I like to feel the fabric before I buy anything. There are some things that LOOK wonderful, but when I feel the scratchy fabric it just turns me off. Plus, in person I can get a better idea of sizing (even the times I can't try things on).

I've bought things via catalogs that looked FINE on the models, but hang on me like a sack. I've learned that I just can't trust the photo to be a true representation of what is being sold.

The only things I buy mailorder are some things I just can't find locally, like nice bras in fancy styles. :)

I don't have a discreet address to ship things to, plus I love the thrill of shopping in person, so I always do it that way -- in person. At first it used to bother me to the point I'd have 50 excuses ready in case the saleperson asked if the items I was purchasing were for me ... but in a very short time, I realized that if I purchased them "matter of factly" they were very professional and never said anything that would embarrass me, so I stopped worrying about it and just enjoyed the experience. One time when I was buying three bras, the young female cashier jokingly asked if they were for me, and, laughing, I said, "Yes!" She clearly didn't believe me, but it was a fun exchange.

Then a few years ago I discovered a very CD-friendly lingerie shop near Philadelphia (since closed, unfortunately), and confided to the lady salesperson that I was looking for panties, bras and breast forms for myself, and she was so helpful it became exciting to buy there -- I spent hundreds of dollars there over a short period of time. She really helped find appropriately sized things that were fun to wear. I'd still probably be buying things there if they hadn't gone out of business.

Internet Shopping could have been made for me! I vastly prefer it anyday! Most websites these days have very good illustrations and if you know what you are wanting , your size, etc then there is no problem. Delivery is usually quite prompt. Before the web I used Mail Order Catalogues a lot.

I will buy in person in large supermarkets or an impersonal self service store where the goods are on a shelf or rack or hung up for you simply to pick up, take to the checkout or pay point and a totally disinterested sales assistant simply rings them through the till without comment and you pay and go away and enjoy them when you get home. I do NOT want their "help", comments, assistance etc, I simply want to buy the goods be they pairs of panties, a disk drive for a computer, a CD to play in the car, household goods, groceries, etc. I have no wish to socialise nor interact with the sales assistants in any way. The only exception to this was the manageress in the Thrift Shop I have referred to elsewhere who sussed that I was a TV but was very sympathetic to such male customers and helped me, but she was an exception. If they replaced sales assistants with robots or androids which had no emotions or prejudices and simply served you with no comment I would be delighted, so Internet Shopping wins hands down with me every time!

Always in person. There is that wonderful feeling of tension as you decide whether you dare go into the shop or not. I used to say my purchases were presents for my wife and ask for advice from the Assistant - (I know, what a lame excuse!) Now I don't bother; just select what I want and take them to the pay-point. After all my money is as good as anyone else's!

I prefer to buy in person, that way i can feel the fabric and try things on. I have never had a problem trying things on, if they ask I tell them that it is for me. Being a big girl it is hard to find things that fit anyway. Never had a problem, after all my money is just as good as anyone's.

I buy all my own lingerie new in stores or second hand at op shops. I used to get embarrsed when I first started buying them but now I enjoy walking around in the ladies underware section of the stores looking at all the sexy things they have. I like to pick a counter that has a nice looking young girl on it when I go to pay as they are usualy the ones that don't take any notice of the fact that I am a man buying something sexy. I have had a couple of them make the comment of "someones a lucky girl" and I think to myself, if they only new the truth. :heehee: Sometimes the male salesperson will give me a funny look that's why I like to chose a female if I can.

Years ago I would buy from my local Salvation Army and other thrift shops. It was cheap and I got a lot of really nice things. In one thrift shop I was always helped by a very friendly old lady. I would tell her I was shopping for "something formal for a girlfriend who was about a size 24". She would take extra time with me to help me make a purchase and I usually ended up buying half a dozen things. I can't help but wonder if she saw through my story? Nowadays I shop on-line. I like ebay, Just My Size (for my girdles, bras, pantyhose and stockings), Old Pueblo Traders and Willow Ridge (problem with them is women's sizes always go out of stock quickly).

I like to buy clothes in Charity shops, I used to buy clothes in them that were rather nice quality, but even there the quality has gone down hill as much almost as chain stores have... I keep trying to find a charity shop that sells some really lovely dresses and skirts, i just might have to bite the preverbial bullet and buy a sewing machine and design and sew my own dresses and skirts... yeah i am serious... geez I cannot use a sewing machine right now... i have positive attitude, artistic talent, a practical brain and dexterous fingers... so nothings impossible for this lady lol.... If others can turn out nice garments then i can too, given some practice and study...lol If i get good i could start selling them.... including making my underwear to my design too... dynamic lol...

I buy my lingerie, stockings, jewelry, wigs and makeup in person. I buy some pretty vintage dresses and sleepwear on Ebay. Sometimes I feel really bold and grab things that i like and take them up to a (preferably female clerk) and then can't wait to go home and try them on. I usually can get my size right, so rarely have returns. It's all good...girls!:2c:

Jennifer,
I have purchased clothes online, but the sizes seem to vary, and it is such a hassle to return it. Following the measuring guidlines in catalogs or on line does help. I have also purchased clothes from department stores but have not been bold enough to try them there. My favorite place to go is thrift stores, goodwill etc., the places are usally very easy to grab some items that are close to your size and try on. I have yet to see any one helping at the dressing room, also if one goes to a more affluent part of town big dollar name brands can be very reasonable. P.S. accessories also Ex. a coach purse for $20.00 Hope I helped , Luv Darley Dee

I love E-Bay!!! You should see the amount and variety of clothing and accessories that I've purchased, Once you have your sizes figured out, it's alot of fun, plus I enjoy the thrill of bidding against others, and hoping that I win. And when I win, I cant wait for my new clothing to arrive at my home.

I always buy in a store. I have even shopped and bought items en femme. There's no feeling like it. Plus, you get to see if the pieces fit and if they match and how they look. I couldn't see myself going any other way. Besides, most salesladies just want the commission, and don't care whether you are male or female. Thay don't always know (and truly shouldn't care) if the stuff is for you or your wife anyway.

I do both.

In person, primarily when I'm out of town, but occasionaly at large department stores even in my area. I tend to buy all my underwear like this. I don't mind at all browsing in the bras and brief section and have never had any remarks or comments.

I buy on line when I see something on a catalogue that I like. I can return the items that I don't like after trying them on, something that is more difficult to do when I purchase items at a shop in person.

I don't know if this is also available elswhere, suppose so, but I order on line and get my purchases stuff delivered at a local outlet and I just have to collect the clothes when it has arrives, at my convenience. Like that I don't have to be at home waiting for the delivery service. It saves my wife from having to collect the parcel for me if I'm not at home... She knows I X-dress but doesn't approve of it...

Online shopping about 50 percent. In drab the remaining 50 percent. I hope to add a third category with an en femme percentage.
