Is that just the best excuse to wear stockings or tights or what?

Hi Kristiania,

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you're prone to blood clots, you're supposed to avoid wearing restrictive clothing, from what I've read.

I'm certainly not a medical authority, so you really ought to discuss this with your doctor for specific advice for your case.

My regular MD told me to start wearing tights or hose all of the time for veinousstasis (I'm sure I spelled that wrong).

OK, maybe no tights, but you'd better stay away from pants and wear lots of skirts then! :D

God, I hate those extra heavy support hose. They seemed like they were made out of a stretch canvas. It took 45 minutes to get them both on. I hate them...BJ
ps. but it's better than having your leg cut off.

Kristiania's doctor is correct, of course. Tight hose helps to increase circulation by helping to return blood to the heart. We use compression stockings after all surgery now for just that reason. Anyone who has had surgery recently will remember those tight white stockings called TED hose you have to wear for several weeks. We also use mechanical commpresion devices which use air pressure to squeeze the calf area in a regular rhythm.

Circulatory stasis, ie. no or poor circulation in an extremity, is what contributes to blood clots. Wearing tight hose is a really good idea whenever you are going to be seated or stationary for a long period of time. Sheer Energy, and Hanes Alive are two popular everyday support hose versions. Both very good for the circulation.

OK, then go crazy! Of course, shaved legs and painted toe nails will help too, well, they'll help your mood anyway, and I would think that a happy patient is important to a doctor, right?:heehee:

As I travel a lot with my business, i tend to wear pantyhose quite a lot. I have often thought of being caght by security, but I would tell them they are for my health, which they are, and wearing fem panthose are much much cheaper than the ones airport shops are selling.

It is also much nicer to wear a pair of nice ose than the medical hose.

IMO everyone should be able to wear them all the time because we all get tired and aching legs, not just GG's
