Can you more experienced people give me so help here.

I haven't experimented with make-up other than once and that made me look like a clown. I sort of understand the colour scheme but it isn't the actual colouring in (as such) that is the problem (other than blending? Still no idea there.)

What the problem is ...is that when I put foundation on, instead of making my skin look all smooth, it highlighted a million creases and smile lines round my eyes that I didn't even know I had! I looked about 100 years old! And when I put the eye makeup on it sort of crinkled in the corners and looked really horrible.

I'm a bit depressed now. I look younger as a man and that would depress anyone.

Awwww, there, there sweety. Okay. First off check me other thread about makeup. However, to respond to your concerns here. I question where you have the right shade and if you're applying it correctly. You want a shade as close to your skin color as possible. Though a bit on the expensive line I think Prescriptives is a good brand for this. Stay away from foundations with too many light 'reflecting' qualities. To apply foundation use a damp sponge. Put the makeup on the sponge. Always start out with a little and build. I never put an 'even' coating of foundation over my whole face. Some areas need more, some less. So I just put on what a particular area needs. And if using powder, light, light, light touch is the key. No heavy hands there. As for the eye makeup, that is hard to teach by just writing something here. I'll keep my *eye* out for any good teaching webby pages, okay? And lastly, those wrinkles I would treat. Though you can't get rid of them completely a few things will help. Smoking and the sun are your enemies (and yes grrls I know I smoke now but planning on quitting. Wear a sun screen. When? All the time!! Yes, even men. Your dermatologist will thank you. Also, start using a retin cream/lotion like Roc (that's a name brand widely available in the UK and USA and Canada). That is the brand I use. Neutrogena's a good second choice. Also, if wrinkles are significant think about getting a precription retinoid cream. Well worth it. I use that as back up. And although I could use a lil' nip and tuck here and there, overall I think me looks much younger than me age.

G'luck!

Damp sponge! Now they tell me!

Thanks a lot for your reply. I will read it several times and take it on board.
Trouble is I have a sort of outdoor complexion (a bit wind blown) so wanted to even everything out and start with a blank canvas as it were. But yes the colour was very light and the powder made me look anemic. I applied the foundation with my finger.....(Hey! They don't teach this stuff in Boy School you know! We all have to start somewhere.)

If I kept to my natural skin colour I might be able to pass as a 83 year old bloodshot milkmaid who's had a hard life.....Still...if she was SEXY.....Nah. Nah. Wouldn't work. Not with the padlock stilletoes and FF stockings.

Must try harder.

Thanks. I have had a look and will study later. But I did have another go just now and it was better, though possibly still the wrong colour foundation. I found that if I just covered the bits that needed covering, rather than everything, the creases weren't thrown into terrifying relief but the rest of the face evened out. Sort of. Wonder what freckly faced redheads use?

Probably nothing. Sigh.

Julie,

The foundation I use is L'Oreal Cashmere Perfect, which is a 12 hours foundation and (as it says on the tube) gives a velvety matt finish and also softens the skin. I put it on abount 10 this morning and it is still feeling nice now, nearly 12 hours later.

I have seen it in Superdrug, and no doubt you can buy it in Boots, but I have found (much to my surprise) that it is cheaper in Sainbury's.

I hope this helps you out.

Rachel

Excellent advice. It is easier to steal from Sainsbury's.

(JUST KIDDING!)
