sometimes seem to go overboard with heavy make-up, tight shiny clothes etc. when probably a fewer proportion of GGs actually dress this way?

Because they can.

We have to wear heavy makeup to hide our beards sometimes.

As for the tight shiny clothes, the GGs can wear them any time they like, so the novelty is probably not there and the fun is probably not as much a factor. For us CDs (those who prefer those kind of clothes; not all of us do) it is rare that some of us get to dress at all, so some of us go for that look.

Just my guess...

Because there are different reasons for CDing, Each type may dress differently===depending upon what one dresses for. A S/M or fetish CD will dress differently from a Transsexual CD, for example. as either type is trying to accomplish something different with thier CDing

Everyone's got their reasons...I personally prefer casual everyday skirts and tops, and don't like constricting corsets n' such, but I'd be the first to admit I go overboard on the mascara cause I just love it.

I used to be into that but not any more. I use just enough beard cover to conceal the shadow and the same with foundation and powder. I've toned down considerably the last couple of months. Seems I learned a lot from the comments of the GG's. Most of 'em try to be as natural looking as possible, so I followed suit. Takes time and practice and trial and error though. Ericka Kay

Tight and shiney?
I prefer just nice things, not tight. I never got the hang of makeup so I don't use it very often. I still try on occasion. I do wear lipstick alot.

I think it is because most crossdressers have an experience level with dressing and makeup that is equivalent to that of a young teenage girl. Many crossdressers who have been at it for awhile and start going out into the world dressed will eventually adopt a style that is much more consistent with what ordinary GG's will wear.

Phobe Reece is right. For the most part we are not adults dressing like adults but adults dressing as junior high school girls.

I think it's because girls experiment with makeup and clothes throughout their childhood and teenage years, and constantly have their friends, magazines etc to advise them on how to look and dress. As we didn't have this guidence, i think some may tend to create an exagerated image of a female (of course this doesn't apply to everyone, and some prefer this look).

Actually more like junior high school boys imaging what they'd dress like as girls.

Seriously, while some junior high/high school girls go overboard with the warpaint, most of them are worried about being label the school ****, so while some might do a bit too tight, and a bit too short, but they don't do the sort of hooker-wear some folks seem to wear.

They've also got parents to tell them, "you're not leaving the house dressed like that." Since most CDs start off dressing by themselves, they don't have either of those two reality checks.

Because that stuff is fun, especially if you've got the body and the budget for it.

I like all that stuff, I used to dress in glitzy dresses or ****ty stuff, its fun! Now I'm more subdued, but I still get dressed up to the 9s once in a while, I still like ****ty clothes, although I don't really wear them well:heehee: . I really like the goth dresses and that look, but I don't personally know any goth GGs my age, so I don't know how that'd work in public, maybe for holloween.

I think the heavy makeup thing is quite simple:

1.) Soemtimes it's just fun to do it.

2.) We usually have male faces and want to have a feminie appearence --> makeup is femine. --> the more makup the more feminine. This way the makeup often becomes a mask instead of a support for your facial features, with the drawback that we sometimes look like a caricature of a woman.
Usually makeup is ment to carefully accent the more feminine of our facial features and to damp the more masculine ones.
This requires of lot of practice an a considerable amount of knowledge to do it right. We usually don't have this knowledge.

Similar for clothes:

Sometimes it is just pure fun to masquerade. Even the closet is of advantage here, because we just can do it (at least for me it is fun to try out a lot of different styles. It is a bit like carnival/halloween when ever I want)

The other reasons are wrong conclusions, again. I.e. heels are feminie --> the higher the heels the more feminine ---> the better to overlay our masculine features. And again this might easily lead to a woman's caricature.

Well I do wear more makeup than the average GG but not to an extreme...and I'm not into shinny tight fitting clothes..don't have the body for them for one thing. Lol. But definately love to dress more feminine than most...guess its just what we do!!
