I have a little dilema. About a month or so ago I purged and burned my bras. I'm not sure why I did it. Lately I have been having some very strong urges to wear bras again. I've been in places like Walmart and Kmart just casualy looking about in the lingerie section. I have even tried on a few and I just can't find one that fits right. My previous bras were a 38c but in all honesty I'm not even sure that was the right size. The one I did have was so comfortable. So for now I am braless. I'm a bigger girl, sz16 jeans fit pretty decent. Anyways I don't know what to do about the bra crisis.

catalogs or on-line catalogs have bra sizing measurements. Also, if you read some of the other message boards, they deal with the subject.

If you are comfortable enough "trying on bras" I might suggest a fitting like some here have done.

Once you find your bra size, buying them will become that much easier.

Francine is right about Bra sizing measurements being in catalogs, or online. However, is those places are sizing for CD's, they are usually way off. For example, they may say to take your band measurement and add 4 or 5 inches. The band measurement is a snug, but not tight, measurement around your chest just below your breasts. My measurement is 40, so if I added 4 inches I would wear a size 44 BRA. WAAAY too Big!!! I wear a 40B, and I fill the cups just right. Your cup size is detirmined by measuring over your nipples, keeping the tape measure level all the way around your body. the difference between that measurment and your band size is the cup size. 2" equals a B cup and so on. I also wear size 16 jeans, so I would guess you are probably a B cup unless you are well endowed in the breast area. You can, as I often do, pad a B out to a C if you want people to notice you. Good Luck!!

bras are hit and miss with gg s and us , unless you get fitted or do like gg s
do try lots on .which few of us will do, if you are size 16 I doubt you are 38
I would start at 40 to 42 .you could go to goodwill if you are up to it and
buy a bunch of bras to get an idea of you size cheaply

I measure over 40 inches around my chest, and a 40 C is nice fit. I have a 42/DD but only wear it with my giant H forms. I have some bras that my GF gave me, 38 C and D, and they are very tight, but I now understand why some GGs where a bra too tight. If it is tight enough and high enough, you can squeeze the girls up where they make cleavage. If you are going for comfort and fit, it sounds like 40 B or C would work. Have fun. Welcome back!

I can uderstand how you feel, but most bras wont feel "right" or comfortable when you first try them on, or buy a new one. This is the same for women too, bras are designed to mould to your body, and will stretch out the more you wear them. Its less noticable for women, as they genrally wear them for much longer than us, so they "wear" them in more quickly.

I really suggest you try to get a "bonds" brand bra. They are only made in Australia, but they honestly make the most confortable, femenine bras I have ever encountered. There are many online lingerie shops that cater to Australian customers, but some also ship internationally.
Check out this store, I have dealt with them before, very friendl and fast. This is a link to the bonds section. The "hipster" range is so brilliant, i own at least one of every style. But is aimed at a younger demographic, bonds "women" section is for more mature women, and I have never tried any of these bras, though no doupt they would rock.

Buy this bra!!! You will not regret it

Damn Hon, what were you protesting, burning your bras? I guess you hafta decide if you want to wear them again. Personally, I'm trying to get a no bra look as the things are beginning to annoy me. Anyway, to measure for proper size, take a tape and measure just under you pecs. That will give you the size. Then to figure out what cup size you want, look at a size chart and go by that. You have to use your imagination since you don't really have boobs. Ericka Kay

Wow, lot's of great information. I burn my garbage if it burns because the landfill charges to thow stuff out so thats how I got rid of them.

I have tried measuring for my size, however it always came up some outrageous size. The few bras I have tried on all have been 38c and now they just seem too snug unless I find a nice & stretchy bra. I guess it depends on the brand and styles. I am also finding C cups to be too large but I have had some that fit smoothly. I have also tried some B cups but the ones I have tried are too small. I have tried racerbacks and those seem too tight. I don't really like formed cups all that much because they look all lumpy. And sports bras are super tight and its very hard to put them on and off for the pullover kind. I'm not sure I'm brave enough to get fitted. When I try these on at Walmart and Kmart I put them between some mens shirts and take them to the fitting room that way. Too often I end up throwing them out if I don't try them on.

Try the measurement method at
Maidenform.com . It comes out closer that other measurements I've tried

Hi -
When I try the sizing at madenform.com it tells me that my size is 40D -

I can believe the 40 but my breast forms will not fill a D cup, more like a C cup. My male rib cage is larger (proportionally) than a woman's so I think the sizing gets thrown off by this. So, do I buy a 40 C even though most charts say otherwise? ANyone have the same dilemma?

Hi Everyone: Consider this when U R measuring. It is a reasonable idea to change from a 40B to a 38C, But I have found that on me (I am 6' and 205#) with a 44" chest to buy a 42C cup bra. Here however is the trick.

I buy full coverage minimizer styles. The thing is small bras look silly on me as I am rather a large person. My waist is 36" so I am not tremendously out of shape or anything, but not small. Then I reason if the diameter of the underwire across the cup is bigger, I can get more of me into the cups. Since minimizers have smaller (less full cups) to make a woman's bust appear smaller they work great for a men to fill them. I fill a 42C in a minimizer style and I just adore the feel of me in a lace cup. So its not just all about size, its also about style of bra.

I'm going to have to get to Walmart and see about getting a new bra this week.

If you are going to Walmart, then just grab some bras that are in the possible sizes you might like, put them inside a folded pair of pants from the men's dept, and then go to the changing rooms and find which size fits best.

Before you burned, you had a size that worked for you. Start with that size. Try to remember that cup size is relative to band size. The cup for a 36C is the same as the cup in a 38B.

Don't worry about the measuring part because those methods are meant for girls. I measure 42 inches for a band size, but I don't like the fit of bras that large. I usually buy 38B, but there is one bra from Vanity Fair that fits very well in a 36B. This advice has already been posted, but I'll repeat it here: try on a variety of bras and that way, you can find what works best for you. After all, how do you find the right size jeans in guy mode? Same thing - you just have to be a little more discreet. Walmart and stores like Kohls make that easier, as there are either no attendants or they don't take the time to look at every item. I've also been in a Penneys that had no attendants in the mens dept, but that was a real hit or miss timing thing. There were attendants at other times, so I really don't know more about them.

Good luck and have fun.

So in other words if I was a 38C I should try a 40B? The thing about Walmart is that they don't have a lot to offer on sizes 40 and above. I ususally stick the bras in a shirt or some jeans. Its amazing how different brands fit. I could try 38C in one brand and the cups would be a little too big or the band is way too snug. I have found B cups to not provide enough coverage as it looks like my boobs are spilling over. I have liked Hanes Her Way and Secret Treasures but now I am finding they fit different now. I don't have a lot of money to burn for bras at Kohls or Penney's though they do have many bigger sizes and more variety.

Jen Gurl,

I sympathise: I've purged bras that fit, and I've been frustrated by buying bras that did not fit.

I posted on the bra fitting thread that I've had success with being fitted, but I don't know if that is partially luck that the clerks were supportive. So I don't have any profound advice.

But I do wish you luck. Let us know how it goes!

Best,

Princess Michelle

Hi All,
This bra sizing is confusing. I thought I understood the cup size system until I got fitted. I had been wearing a 42 B but I did not like how it fit with with the forms - it seemed the cups were just too big. So I went one sunny AM and had a fitting at a bra specialtiy store. The lady there was very nice and when she was done I had a 40 D. Looks great and feels great. But I am still mystified by the move from B to D when I downsized the band size.

Trying them on is the only way. As for getting rid of bras, I think we ALL have tossed a great bra only to regret it shortly thereafter.

Good luck!

Joanna
