I was watching Jay Leno the other night and he had the actress Scarlett Johansson on as a guest. She revealed that she often dresses up as a man in public including wearing a false moustache to avoid detection. The discussion then centered on her observations of men's toilets as she had often used these when crossdressed.

I sat there watching everyone laughing and obviously completely unoffended by the whole idea. Then I thought, what if this were a male actor, say John Cossack or Jude Law admitting to this. Think of the gasps from the audience when he stated he dressed as a woman and used women's toilets. If there was laughter, it would be the nervous, awkward type. I would not be surprised if police were already waiting for him as he exited the stage since this is considered an offence in many areas.

Maybe one day.....

I don't think it's an offence any where now day's. In the seventies here in Ohio one city there was a law on the books about a male "and only a male" dressed while in public was an offence. Besides the police have their hands full now days and I don't think dressing would be a point of interest to them. Or unless it was a male hooker in that case he would be fair game.

Joy, I was referring to men being in women's toilets as being considered an offence.

yes there are double standards whether we like it or not ,the reason its ok for
women to dress as men is because the vast majority of men think if a man
dresses femme he is a fag .women are not like that .as for wash rooms
men rape women , women dont rape men , so we get a bad name because
of a few predators

I remember back in the mid 90's reading an article about Jaromir Jagr, a famous hockey player for the Pittsburgh Penguins. He used to dress as a woman to hide from fans sometimes. I belived he did it more often in his home country of the Czech Republic, but he had done a few times here in North America too.

There was no mention of him using women's washrooms though.

The attached pic is Jagr at a beauty contest in the Czech Republic. Apparently, its a similar look to what he wears when in "disguise".

Same thing applies to the reaction a person has seeing two men make out or two women make out. When two men make out it is disgusting, when two women make out it is erotic.

For me it is also interesting how people readily accept the excuse that she crossdresses just for a disguise in public. A simple wig and dark shades would suffice. To transform a sexy feminine face and body into a male is a lot of work just for a disguise. To repeatedly use a male disguise indicates that she must enjoy the experience, something which comes as no surprise to us CDs - crossdressing is a blast no matter who you are.

So is Ms Johansson a crossdresser? I would say so.
Do I think she considers herself a crossdesser? Probably not.
Does society label her a crossdresser? Of course not, she is a woman. This is all harmless fun.

I saw the same program, Satrana, and had similar thoughts. I also agree with KarenSusan, not only great dress, but cleavage to die for!
I think part of this is the context. I work for a small casino, and we hosted a game show through the summer. A dinner theatre group who do other things with us, did a weekly event where contestants were choosen from the audience to play Name that Tune or Take it or Leave it. 3 sets of each, 3 contestants per set. This took place in a marvellous 1912 vaudeville theatre. (seats 440). One of the female performers, a high-energy girl wanted to play a joke on "Elvis" the lead who developed the show and the extensive list of tunes for "Name that Tune".
What she and I came up with was that I, the Banker-guy, who always came on stage in grey slacks, white shirt, black tie and black blazer, would do a quick change just prior to show time and come out en femme.
This was the final of 15 performances. Most of the audience had been to at least 10 similar shows. After I met with the cast back stage, and spent some time up front welcoming guests, I slipped to the receiving area, and did a very quick change, black pants to short, short white bicycle skirt; black ostrich boots to black strappy sandal with 3" heels and scarlet toenails; same white shirt, open 4 buttons, pulled the nu-Bra together and snapped it to create a bit of cleavage; red stick-on fingernails, long curly blonde wig, black braided leather belt instead of a tie, along with a couple of black and silver chokers, clip on earrings, silver rings and bracelets, a bit of mascara, a bit of eye shadow and scarlet lipstick.
When 'Elvis' did his intro, Polly, Polly Darton came on mike from offstage, complaining about how dark it was, and wandered onstage. The response was great! We did get Elvis, but the audience went on clapping etc, long enough that he had a chance to fully recover. I had great reaction during and after the show, and continue to receive approving comments almost two weeks later. Older women seemed to especially appreciate my little escapade.
I didn't have time to do proper makeup, and wasn't tring to pass, just play a bit of a joke on a friend, so maybe no one was threatened by it. Thanks to cellphone cameras, images abound, and I have had no bad reaction, but it could be because no one took it seriously, similar to Ms Johannson. They didn't consider it crossdressing, but the banker guy dressing a bit ****ty to surpise the Elvis dude. Context. It still was great for me!

Oops; But then a woman in the men's room would not cause much of a stir now would it.

One, thing I allways sit down in the restroom. Two, been to a few concerts and things like that when a GG would come into the mens room, cause she couldn't wait in the womans lines. And you are right Joy have never seen the guys get upset. LOL

Afer her role on Nip/Tuck as a transsexual, I wouldn't be surprised if Scarlett just decided to play around with gender in real life as well.

You're getting her confused with Famke Janssen.

Regardless of who you're confusing her with she IS a CD and that's that. After all a crossdresser is defined as one wearing clothes designed for the opposite sex. Of course since she is a celebrity and a woman this is ok and isn't looked down on. It's too bad you can't get someone like that to admit to being a CD because it would be a major boost to CD'ing. Maybe someone will label her as a CD and that will give it a boost.

I have met Jaromir before, at the Pen's training camp at the Iceoplex at Southpointe....5 minutes from my house....Cute guy, needs a little makeup help!! lol

He was a great player but his head got too big for his wig i guess...hehehe

Yes someone famous. That would be great if we could get someone well known here in the states to admit to CD'ing, but maybe not because then we'd get the "oh you're just trying to be like them" speech. Who knows?

Regrettably as a comedian/actor I think Eddie's crossdressing gets written off as being "part of his act." (Eddie himself has said he was glad when British sculptor Grayson Perry came out because people actually started believing his CDing was for real.)

Yes comedians and rock stars have been crossdressing for a long time as part of their acts; they are allowed to be outrageous. What we need are famous but serious and respected people to come out of the closet which would result in widespread discussion and distribution of information about crossdressing.

That's the problem, and then we're back to square one. People will think the famous ones are only doing it for publicity and as part of an act, and in the end it won't make a difference at all. Although some people don't think Eddie's CDing is real, I know he has also changed a lot of minds and opened others.

Don't get me wrong... St. Eddie has definitely done a lot. It's just that if some true "executive transvestites" came out -- i.e. "respectable" folks who've got nothing to gain from the publicity it would have a lot more effect.

Except of course the only publicity that a respectable CD coming out will get will be bad publicity. Whoever comes out first will have to be very brave or very foolish (or both!) I think we have a long wait on our hands. Realistically CDs will only garner support from the grass roots up by ordinary CDs simply getting out there and becoming a regular sight in public places.
