Hi girls,
Does anyone know of any good books on make up techniques and procedures? I constantly practice applying make up, but need a little "professional" help. I am getting better with each day, but it's only been a few months since "alexis" has been putting on make up.
I am totally in love with it though. Putting on make up is kinda like creating a masterpiece of art on the face. I am finding myself buying more and more cosmetics, trying differnt ones, and finding out which foundation works best for my skin tone, what lip colour to use, etc...
One more question, can anyone suggest a good beard cover, and is this like a foundation, or is foundation applied after this? Thanks
Kisses
~Alexis

I was just reading a thread on beard covers the other day, I think it was in the cosmetics forum here. Check that out.

By Mary Quant...its a DK book and bought it at the Half Price Bookstore. Very good. Lots of details...I refere to it all the time. She's British but the book was published in the UK and US...
And there are other good books out there...just really liked this one!! I'm into makeup also if you haven't noticed my makeup photo album...

Practice practice, practice---preferably with a Tg or Gg who likes to wear makeup and is experienced in putting it on.

Books and magazine articles are ok, but don't hold a candle to a real live teacher. Get a makeover by a makeup artist who knows what he or she is doing. You'll learn a lot. The makeup counters in the mall, like Estee Lauder, Lancome, etc do pretty good makeovers. When they have the expert makeup artist from the head office come in, you usually get an exquisite makeover and lesson. You do have to buy something, but it's usually worth it. If that's too public for you, try Merle Norman, a salon, or just go down the yellow pages under Make Up Consultants & Studios and also Beauty Consultants.
Warm regards,

Some makup cos., like Almay, http://almay.com/ have demos of their products.
Also the Beauty Forum, many of the girls will be happy to help you there.
Of course, practice, practice, practice.

I have been a CD for some years and i asked for help from gg's
but the were so busy rolling on the floor laughing that i gave up any hope
of getting any assistence from them.
so for me it was like some of the other girls have already said.
trial and error.but after some years of that regimine i have
reached a sort of happy medium so far as makeup is concerned.
one way i did learn is to observe and copy a really good makeup job
when i saw one. shades of eye shadow and kinds of face creams and so on.

I agree with Christina a real live teacher. I went to Macy's Clinique counter in drab late at night and told them I needed make for myself. They try diffirent colors and fondations till they got it right. And show me how to apply it. Said I had to come back in the winter for my winter colors. Next time will be dress.
Oh Ho. Yup been there and done that. Trial and error has worked for me about .001% of the time. I have no artistic talent but when I finally got it right it looked good.

Suddenly Fem has a good beard cover which I use. It covers the shadow very well (I have a heavy beard). There are two shades 01 and 02. I use 02. Covers the shadow regardless of whether I want to look like Ericka or my other persona Eric. Their website is www.crosser.com (not crossdressers.com which is this one). Ericka Kay
