Well girls,

Good news and not so good news.

I just returned from my first visit to my endocrinologist. I came away with two prescriptions. That's the good news. Spironolactone 50mg and Estradiol 1mg. That's the not so good news. I had hoped for doses a bit higher. What he said was start low and go slow. And he also said he was sure I would be upping these doses at our next visit in 4 months.

So it has started!!!

Well, I gues it started a while ago. I am two months into electrolysis. And I have been telling others about this. (as you are all aware)

Had to share this though.

Wheee!

Wow, congradulations! That's a really good start! I'd follow the doctor's advice here, I'm sure he wants to see if your body has any adverse reactions to the drugs before he ups the dosage. I'll bet the drugs will change your thought process somewhat. Let us know what happens.

Wowza Stephenie, Congratulations! I agree with Amber, Doctor knows best and keep us posted on how you're doing and how they are affecting you.

These doses are indeed *very* low. Sometimes I don't understand why doctors are this paranoid. He very well knows that dosage is insufficient and has confirmed it to you, yet he still prescribes it.

My doctor has decided that I needed a second blood test prior to getting my prescription because my liver functions were "slightly elevated" (but still within the "normal" levels), and he wanted to know if that was normal for me or not before starting hormones.

Oh well, I suppose it's a good thing to be careful with these things, but I am quite impatient... I still have a week to wait before I get my prescription. Hopefully he will prescribe both estrogen and t-blockers, and not just one of them.

My personal view is that I like my liver and if it can't tolorate the necessary levels of HRT, then I'm screwed for future HRT. If you start slow and work up the dosage, your body is much more likely to tolorate it then if you just start with a high dose and shock your liver into a possible bad side effect.
Patience is definitely required for transition, I know it's hard to do, but if you try to push it too fast, you're asking for trouble.

Congrats, Stephenie. I'm sure you're doctor is taking precautions rather than having to deal with problems later. I hope all goes well.

Thanks CaptLex,

I still have some Black Rum left that I brought back from Burmuda. If you ever get to my neck of the woods we could tip a few.

Hi Stephanie, I hope it all works out for you, that is exciting. It is probably best to start with low dosages, you don't want to wreck your liver. We have been thru liver disease with a family member and it's not pretty.

Congratulations Stephanie, the Doctor is right to be cautious about dosage, the Hippocratic oath states,in part, first do no harm.We all want to be alive and healthy when we get to the final step of transition.:hugs:

50mg is not bad, I restarted that a couple months ago and it was too strong for me.....25mg works for me to keep a SMALL level of T going but not enough to drive my life.....

Congrats!!
