Hi Again...
Some of the prettiest girls on this BB wear eye glasses... Do you have different styles to wear when you are in "drab" and when you are in "fem"?
Or have you found a style that will work for both worlds? I wear some what expensive ($400) perscription glasses and am in need of an up-dated pair as my close up vision is getting a bit weaker. I would like to find a style that would work for me in both modes... Any suggestions... Pictures...

Well, they do make uni-sex glasses as far as I know, so you could go for that.

Boy (girl?) bob..bie?,
I am looking for EXACTLY the same thing!
Please post pictures and info if you come up with a suitable style. I am trying to avoid the purchase of two expensive pairs.

The last time I bought glasses, I specifically had something androgenous in mind. I went with a very minimal frame with no frame below the lenses. There's a pic on my profile.

bob..bie - I just got a new pair of glasses (and so did my wife).
We got them from Sears (in their optical shop - may not be in all Sears).
I had been wearing the Steson (sp?) style (similar to aviator style (large lenses)).
I started looking at the women's styles, and my wife steered me toward the EASYtwist 'N Clip style (with a sunglasses attachment (grey-black) that uses magnets to "clip" to the frame), style ("49019" on the bridge of the glasses, and "CT133 49 [] 19 135 50" on the left ear piece).
They are lineless bifocals, with two-tone blue ear pieces.
The lenses are similar to a rectangle with rounded corners.
My wife got the same thing with different colored ear pieces and a brownish sunglasses attachment, so I know they are feminine enough for drab and drag.

If you know your prescription, you can order glasses online. The link is below.
http://www.39dollarglasses.com/11000.html
I ordered a pair of glasses from them and was very satisfied. And they come in the mail, in just 4 or 5 days.
I got a free pair of glasses down at the VA, that aren't worth a damn. I feel like I'm underwater. But the glasses I got online are great. I also wear contacts, when I am dressed, but I always seem to get a tiny bit of eye shadow or powder under them, and a few hours later my eyes are sore. You can order male or female type glasses online. And there are other online eyeglass places, but I haven't tried them.
If you just want a pair of fem glasses for now and then, it doesn't make sense to shell out a pile of money for them.

I just spent $500 on new glasses because the aviators I had looked to masculine. Bought a nice pair of small eliptical lenses and they look just great in both my male and female modes. I noted at display counter that there is less of a distinction of male and female styles these days.

Here in the UK opticians sell bisexual bifocals :D
What I really mean is that they all sell unisex glasses. My pair are almost identical to my wifes..even the prescription is nearly the same. This is useful 'cos I'm always losing mine and I borrow hers to find them

I'm fortunate that I only need reading glasses and I can get cheap ones from any of a number of stores; so I wear boring old black frames when in male drab and a really pretty pair with pink frames when "Caroline".

And if you click on my yahoo photo albums links below I'm sure there's a few pics of me in them....out there.....somewhere...if you have a few hours to waste...:D

I just orded a new pair of glasses and mine are in the $400.00 range because of the prescription.
When i went into the optical store, was looking at the femme frames, and the sales girl, tried to steer me to the mens secition, as i was in drab at the time.
I ended up finding a nice pair of frames in the ladies section, however they are the style, that if i had to I could wear them in drab, and they probably would not be noticed.
Just waiting for them to arrive

I have four or five pairs of glasses, plus sunglasses etc. but there all fake with non perscription (clear glass lenses) , basically all you need are the frames, and if you buy them from ebay 99% of the time the companies logo can be carefully removed with solvant, nail polish remover being one that well.
If there etched, the mark can be removed with a polishing kit, slowly working down to finer and finer polish. to remove. it not difficult if you take your time, and light scratching is not visible anyway.
the picture inside my profile shows me with glasses. (there fake like the rest of Tracy Hehehehe)

I have two pairs of fem eyeglasses. I found that unisex glasses, in my case at least, did not look "unisexy" on me. Quite "unsex", in fact.
You can certainly buy online (I got one of my pairs that way) but there really is no substitute for sucking it up and going in person to try out fem frames. If you are morbidly curious about the process, I discussed it at some length in some of my earliest blog entries.
You can see the results on my photo page. The frames I most commonly wear cost a bloody arm and leg, but I absolutely love them.

I wear glasses but come this Sunday, I have a Free Evaluration to see if I can get lazer surgry done on my eyes. I spend on the average around $500-$600 for a good set of frames and lens every couple of years. Since lazer surgry is about $500 per eye, it will only take 4 years to recover the cost.
Then I don't have to worry if my glasses cause a distraction and I then wear these sexy sunglasses that my wife and I won the other day. LOL

Fem frames? The last time I got glasses, I don't recall any M or F section, there was just a few racks with differing styles. Certainly, some frames seem more M than F, thicker to thinner. I suppose it would be nifty to have two different pairs but I can't imagine having one M and one F, probably because I'm effacing gender altogether with the M aspects providing most of the sacrifice. Might be cool to have one pair retro and one modern, though.

I have two pairs of unisex non - lined bifocals, and three pairs of prescription female oversized sunglasses. Out of the house I normanally wear the female sunglasses, they cover my face and I think that they are very sexy. From Katrina

since I am low income, I have little choice in glasses. Right now I have an older set that looks great with Carroll. My current pair is no too bad either. I will sometimes look at the so-called female glasses to see what will work for both of me:heehee:

I cheat. I have gotten several pairs of those cheap reading glasses found in almost every pharmacy and supermarket in the country. My favorite pair I paid $1 at a dollar store. My pedicurist just loves them. She had to try them on one visit.

My glasses are from the "female" range, but TBH I don't think most people take notice of the style, unless it is a "Dame Edna" or "Elton John" style.
Mind you I must admit, I have got a little vain and now wear contacts 24/7, now I can see to put my make up on without having the mirror on the end of my nose :)

I bought a pair of femme eyeglass frames on eBay. I didn't have a copy of my prescription so I mailed him a pair of my male glasses and he copied the prescription. He also suggested a slight rose tint so I went for that. Then he mailed me back both pair of glasses. I was very happy witih the service.

Well girls, here is a thought. I ware male bifocals when I want look male. I ware colored contacts when I want to look female. As my arms are not as long as it takes to read print:heehee: , I bought a pretty pair of bifocals with
plain lense on the top and reading on the bottom. The cost was five dollars.
In fact, I am wearing them as I write this. I have different colors of contacts. Today my eyes are brown. Can't see well enough to spend $500 dollars; I probably spend far too much on crossdressing as it is!

I went to Sears and picked out a nice pair of ladies frames(A la Tootsie but not quite as large) and told the clerk this is what I wanted. She said "but these are women's glasses." I said "I know" and proceeded with the order...no other problem.
When they came in they called my home and ask for Mrs._____. I told her they were mine and I would be right down.
I went down, got them fitted and that was that. No big deal. A good looking pair of ladies glasses has enhanced my feminine look a great deal and I do need them to drive. YOU CANNOT allow other people to control your life.

Try this website...upload a pic in makeup without a wig and play with the hair styles and eyeglasses, even makeup. It's free...what's not to like.
Maybe you can find a style that works for you....

I wear glasses when I'm in drab, but not en femme. I can see well enough to drive without 'em and get by reading. I do wear femme sunglasses if I'm out in daytime en femme. And, I do carry my prescription glasses with me in case I need 'em.
My prescription frames are very masculine. I've often wondered what the optometrist would say if I wanted to get a pair with my prescription but in a feeme style. HMMMM.

Until very recently I worked in wholesale optometric supply for a contact lens company, so I spent most of my working days speaking with optometrists & their staff. I wear glasses in male mode but prefer to wear disposable contacts when en femme.
If you're worried about getting femme frames from your regular optom, look for an optom in the gay part of town, and find a shop you feel comfortable in where the staff make you feel welcome.
You can get bifocal/multifocal contacts, but they're not cheap. OTOH, if your script is changing a lot, bifocal contacts may actually work out cheaper than buying a new pair of glasses every 6 months. Alternatively, you could try "monovision": one eye for distance & one eye for reading.

Ouch! That shouldn't happen if you put your contacts on before applying your makeup, Melinda. OTOH, I did somehow get a blob of mascara under my contact on Wednesday evening. I tolerated it for half an hour before removing the contact & rinsing off the offending blob. However, that was my worst makeup/contacts accident in over 25 years of wearing contacts & makeup. And I think it's about time I got some new mascara... :)

Robin....why would you feel you have to go to a gay side of town to get fem glasses? This sounds absurd to me. Why be embarassed to buy what you want anywhere. This goes for fem clothes, shoes, makeup, etc.
I purchased as lot of make-up items at Walmart the other day. The young clerk said "all this for you". My reply was "yeh, I'll come by sometime when you are working and show you how it looks'. "That would be great" she said.
I doubt more gay people are CD'ers than straight.

Hi Marie,
Robin....why would you feel you have to go to a gay side of town to get fem glasses? This sounds absurd to me. Why be embarassed to buy what you want anywhere. This goes for fem clothes, shoes, makeup, etc.
Of course you can get feminine glasses anywhere. But if somone is feeling paranoid about it, they might as well go to that part of town where it will definitely be a non-issue. Some people go to the same optom for decades, and if they're in the closet they may not want to share their secret with their regular optom.
I have a different problem: I can't go anonymously to any optometrist in Australia or New Zealand. Fortunately, I know who all the nice ones are. :)
I purchased as lot of make-up items at Walmart the other day. The young clerk said "all this for you". My reply was "yeh, I'll come by sometime when you are working and show you how it looks'. "That would be great" she said.
I bought some new foundation & powder on Wednesday, and nail polish remover & mascara today, both at the supermarket. I was hoping for pretty young female clerks, to get their reaction, but got served by guys both times. Oh well. The clerks don't worry me, but sometimes the other shoppers can still make me nervous. I was about to grab some nail polish a few weeks ago when an acquaintance came up behind me and called my name. It took me a second or two to recover my composure. :)
I doubt more gay people are CD'ers than straight.
I never suggested they were. The gay parts of town tend to be more tolerant of gender variance, though. As for gay or TG optometrists, you'll probably find more of them clustered in the gay parts of town.
Stand up for who you are.
I try, but old habits of mind die hard (I remember the Bad Old Days). I can buy makeup without too much nervousness, but I have a hard time buying femme clothing.

Robin,
Sorry you are limited as to where you can go to buy glasses. We have dozens of places here in Virginia where I am able to go and no one would know me. I do buy my regular glasses at one store and my femme glasses at Sears. Sears eyeglass departments are contracted out anyway.
I just got back about 30 minutes ago from buying a dress at Penneys. No one said a word. I had tried it on earlier in the week in the store dressed femme but waited until today's sale and saved $40.00.
I guess after so many years of worrying about what other's think (I'm 59 yrs old now), I just don't care. Maybe that's the difference.
Anyway, good luck and happy dressing. I mean no disrespect.

Some of the prettiest girls on this BB wear eye glasses...
Why, thank you...:D , oh, you weren't referring to me...awwww:o BTW, what's a BB?
My old femme glasses are no longer in style, but a new pair is a bit pricey for the few times I get to go out these days. So I make do with my guy ones. Unless a GG is wearing very unusual glasses, no one really notices what they're wearing anyway.
So, a pair of unisex type glasses should be okay for going out. If you're read, it won't be because of the glasses.
The times I wish I had femme glasses are when taking pictures. The glasses are more noticeable. Maybe I'll bite the bullet and get a pair...

Robin,
Sorry you are limited as to where you can go to buy glasses. We have dozens of places here in Virginia where I am able to go and no one would know me. I do buy my regular glasses at one store and my femme glasses at Sears. Sears eyeglass departments are contracted out anyway.
I'm not really limited, it's just that I'm on first name terms with virtually all the optoms in the country, so I can't be anonymous. However, I'd have no problems finding an optom that I would be comfortable buying femme glasses from. As I mentioned before, I know who all the nice ones are. :)
I had my last eye test a day or so after dressing up. If my regular optom couldn't see mascara traces under the microscope, he'd have to be blind. :) I wasn't worried in the slightest, but I don't think I'd be comfortable talking to him about getting femme frames. My current frames are fairly gender-neutral, but I much prefer to wear contacts when I dress up.
Optometry isn't a typical macho profession. :) There are plenty of gay guys in optometry (and probably quite a few who are TG, too), and some male optoms do seem to over-compensate a little as they don't want to be perceived as gay (even if they are). If I were buying femme frames, I would prefer to go to an optom who is sympathetic rather than antagonistic.
I just got back about 30 minutes ago from buying a dress at Penneys. No one said a word. I had tried it on earlier in the week in the store dressed femme but waited until today's sale and saved $40.00.
Cool! I don't have the courage to go shopping en femme. :( Just buying milk, etc from the corner shop is my limit. :)
I guess after so many years of worrying about what other's think (I'm 59 yrs old now), I just don't care. Maybe that's the difference.
Anyway, good luck and happy dressing. I mean no disrespect.
I care less than I did 20 years ago, but I can still be hurt by nasty comments from strangers in the street.
Thanks for your response. No disrespect taken, Marie.

You gals can order femme or unisex lenses and glasses if you have your prescription - from that 39dollarglasses.com site above.
I was impressed, I called them up to ask about the PD setting and t hey sent me to their help site to download a measuring PDF file, printed it out, measured my pupil to pupili setting and ordered up a set of the SAME glasses that would have cost me $400.
Except I got a unisex more femme type frame, glasses really do ease the passing in my opinion. Last time I had some female sunglasses it just made eveyrthing look better.
Well I need glasses, especially with this new monitor, the resolution is so small the text is a tad harder to see, so now was a good time.
If ya want femme, give it a shot, you call the shots on that site and order exactly what you want.......downside is you can't try them on.
Now they should be here tomorrow, I'll take a pic of me tomorrow evening when the day settles down....
