Just wanted to share . . .
I still get called "ma'am", "miss" and "lady" on a daily basis (when I reach my quota of those I start correcting people). I've tried everyone's passing suggestions regarding clothing, binding, voice, even jewelry (I really don't think my one tiny earring hoop makes a diff, though), to no avail. I really think it's just that I have a very feminine face - okay, and the binding is not as effective as I would like.
So, even though I didn't want to do this yet, I decided to let my facial hair grow for a couple of days - until I get tired of looking scruffy and shave it. Consequently, I haven't shaved my face in about a week and it's looking pretty scruffy now. Actually, I'm liking it, and (surprisingly) no one seems to notice it until I point it out and then they rub it and say "Oh, yeah!"
Anyway, yesterday I went to dinner with one of the guys in my group to his neighborhood (where no one knows me) and we passed an old man who said to us in Italian, "Buona sera, signores" (we waved and smiled). My friend then pointed out, "You just got your first sir". I said, "No, he was talking to you". And he assured me that the man had said "signores" - plural. So, I guess he was talking to both of us. I was so elated I told him I wanted to run back and hug the old guy. He laughed and told me the guy might not take it well. :heehee:
So, I wanted to share that I may have gotten my first "sir". I may never shave again! :p
