Dear Jenna,
Here is where I found my gender therapist. The cost was $75 per session, most paid for by my insurance.

Good luck dear,

Is there anything like an LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) center or clinic in your area? I found my therapist through the local LGBT clinic here. They gave me a list of gender therapists in the city and I then circled the names of the ones that take my insurance and called. My insurance only covers 30 sessions a year, so if I want more than that (and I do), I have to pay for them myself. Fortunately, my therapist charges me a lesser rate for these than he normally would, so we were able to make a deal. Good luck to you.

Hi Jenna
Can't help you with therapists in Tennessee but I can tell you my experience with therapists. I searched for therapists with specific TG/TS/Gender Dysphoria knowledge, first on the internet then locally. Long story short, it took three tries before I found one that truely knew what issues we face. The first two attempts - the first a male, couldn't get past seeing me as gay; the second - a woman was more concerned about her fee than she was about helping me.
Bottom line: It may take time and patience to find the right therapist for you- don't give up.

Hi Jenna, I found this site,
http://www.lauras-playground.com/gender_therapists.htm
there are only 3 in Tennessee listed but I am sure if you call one of them they can point you to someone in your area. I started seeing a therapist about 6 months ago and so glad I did. As Carolanne said, if you don't like the first one find another. There is no reason to see someone you don't feel comfortable with, after all they are there to help you. As far as insurance goes you might talk to the therapist and see if they can bill you for something like depression or stress instead of gender, that way it is not on your medical records, just in case you are worried about that. Also look for other groups in your area,
http://www.tvals.org/
they will have leads on TG knowledable therapist in your area. Good luck, Bobbie
