I'm looking for a nice leather corset and have no idea what to look for. It would be my first one so I don't want to spend a fortune on it if it turns out that I don't like it. I know eBay has a number of them but I don't know if they're any good. Any suggestions would me more than helpful. Thanks.

Does this one look decent?

Hi Stiletto,

Yes, it does look to be decent, but hard to tell. The good thing is that it seems to be sturdily made, and looks like the real thing, which as you know, can get VERY expensive. The only reservation I have is that the back laces are not lined, so you may end up needing to wear something in between it and your skin, as the laces may dig in (but maybe you don't mind that?)

Good luck!

I hate to rain on your parade but.... I am going to anyway...

Just my two cents but it seems to me to be a high price for imitation leather. It doesn't look very sturdy to me and getting it from ebay, there is no returning if it doesn't hold up...

I would suggest much more thought!:2c:

you might want one that actually has cups---that way you won't have to buy a bra too---

what do you want to do with it? If you want something pretty that is fun and feels good to wear, go for it. If waist reduction and shaping are your goals then you really should go custom-made.

I'm a little weary of something made of pleather, but if the cotton twill in the lining and core layers is fairly thick it should be fine. If not, it won't take much to damage the pleather. Since they're using steel boning though (the standard for corsets), I suspect that it's probably thick enough to handle the strain.

I seriously doubt you'll get 3-4" of reduction out of it though, at least if you plan on wearing it for longer than an hour. You might not even need that much though - sometimes all it takes is an inch or two to get the right female curves:p

There's actually another one on there that they sell that is real leather.

I guess what I'm looking for it to do is to give me a little bit more of a fem shape. Not a massive reduction, just trimming the fat so to speak. My chest down to my hips is just a block! LOL!

I just bought one on Ebay from a company called Alter Ego. They were recommended to me by a corsetted chick that I approached at a party the other night. I ordered one right away! I paid 100 bucks for a design that I have seen here in Vegas for around $400. It is real leather, very nice black leather(!) The sewing quality is wonderful, the design is magnificent, the corset is as good as any leather ones I have seen. Here is a pic of what I just bought.

Check them out on Ebay - I don't see how you could lose on the deal. You could sell it easily for near or more than your investment - I would believe.

From my experience, you just bid at the lower basic price, and it is set up so that you will get it at that price. Or you could send her a note and just ask....

i myself have been looking into corsets for some time. but the cost and what to do i really need to get, as well as not having a credit card for stuff on the net has been holding me back.
i have always looked at underbust because i dont know if i would fill the cups that it would have. also i have been trying to lose weight, nothing like ordering a costem one then finding by time you get it (some sites take as long3-4 week) you end up dropping a size.
so im waiting till after im on homones and my weight is stable.
i have been looking at these though, never been into leather

what you all have to say about those look good, sounds good too
i dont think i would wear one as outer wear though.

Well, I wouldn't buy the corset without actually seeing the construction. Looks are deceiving, especially with corsets. If the left and right panels that mirror each other don't have the fabric grain mirrored exactly, when it tighten the corset, it will twist and not be strait. I bought a cheap knock-off once, and it pissed me off. It was a discontinued sale item from Spartacus (http://spartacusleathers.com/) in Portland, OR. The manufacturer was Hoss International (http://www.hossinternational.com/home%20page%20corset-2006.htm), model L-555 (http://www.hossinternational.com/Fotos/vol-1/P-vol1-05/P-02/p-8.htm). I'll never buy a corset from them again. The twisting of the fabric didn't occur till the corset started breaking in. To save fabric costs, they cut the pieces how they best fit the fabric instead of following the grain of the fabric! There is a great deal of fabric waste to make a proper corset. A proper manufacturer for what the construction looks like will probably be at least $200.

If you choose to buy from Timeless-Trends (http://www.timeless-trends.com/), I would get a written guarantee that the corset will maintain its shape once broken in, beyond other normal guarantees.

There was a great deal of positive feedbacks. Call me a skeptic, but they were all too similar for my taste, and I wonder if they were false IDs and messages generated?

Their corset site looks pretty good, but like I said, I'm a skeptic. Anyway, with a Buy Now price of $109 and a starting bid of $99, why not buy real leather from them for $139? From their web site, Leather Corsets (http://www.timeless-trends.com/leather.htm)

http://www.timeless-trends.com/imagess/underbustlingerie.jpg

They have silk corsets as cheap as $80. Now that bothers me. I cannot help but be skeptical of the quality.

Now I do have positive experiences with four brands of corsets, and I like the Dark Garden corsets the best among them, but they are the most expensive also. Check out their sites:

Versatile Corsetry (http://www.versatilecorsets.com/)
Vollers Corsetry (http://www.vollerscorsetsusa.com/)
Stormy Leather (http://www.stormyleather.com/)
Dark Garden (http://www.darkgarden.com/)

I have two Vollers corsets and two stormy leather corsets. The newest one I have is the Stormy Leather Octavia (http://www.stormyleather.com/product.asp?0=324&1=325&3=910). It cost me $329 some years back, and is now $369. I love their discontinued Hourglass Corset that I have. It was $289 when I bought it, and it was my first corset. I was fitted for a custom corset at Dark Garden some years back as well, but never returned to have one made. My other two corsets are a white satin Vollers V1904u (http://www.vollerscorsetsusa.com/overbust-range/v1904u.htm) and a Vollers V176u (http://www.vollerscorsetsusa.com/overbust-range/v176u.htm) in Black Velvet. They were just under $200 each when I bought them. They are now closer to $300 each.

If the left and right panels that mirror each other don't have the fabric grain mirrored exactly, when it tighten the corset, it will twist and not be strait.

That's an excellent point, and can for all practical purposes ruin the corset. There's no real way to guard against it unfortunately, even leather and vinyl have a grain that must be paid attention. Any reputable corset-maker though won't do such shoddy work, so if anything you can use it as a mark of quality.

I think you might be inviting trouble with asking for a guarantee from a place that only sells off-the-rack corsets. There's no way to guarantee such a thing with non-custom work, because there are so many fitting issues that can cause it to go astray.

Personally I don't see the point in ordering a ready-made corset that costs as much as custom work, though I'm totally biased. I can see it if you've fallen in love with one specifically I suppose - I can totally understand why Felicity bought that Octavia corset:drool:!

When it comes down to it, you get what you pay for. If you buy something cheap it won't last for a long time (I'm talking years), but that might not be an issue anyway. You're at luck's mercy too - it might fit beautifully or it might be unwearable for longer than an hour.

That's not to say you can't get ripped off though - some of Stormy's corsets look way overpriced for what you get (it's ridiculous that they charge $50 for a lacing guard, which is something many makers do for free).

For something to just try out, the e-bay corset just might be ideal. On the plus, you can try out a corset for very little money. On the minus though, if it's poorly made or fitted you might be left with a bad experience and never want to wear one again, when you otherwise may have fallen in love with them. You could avoid that by spending the extra $$, but may find that you don't like corsets no matter how well they fit. It's a crapshoot either way.:2c:
