Wow... so many firsts today. Up until now, Claire has pretty much done nighttime drives. What a day we had!
Left home around 8:30 for first therapist appt. We drove past my workplace hoping my buddies weren't sitting there... hoping there were no wrecks on the road where my fellow coworkers were. Made it out of town and onto the interstate. Claire was pretty calm then, nobody paid much notice. Made it 110 miles down the road and she had to stop for restroom break. Eek. We found a dirty but unisex bathroom in a quiet gas station on a quiet exit in Jacksonville. That was kind of scary. Took 15 minutes of waiting until all the cars were either gone or people occupied for her to steel her nerves to run for it (well, she walked gracefully). Poor baby, when she was done, opened the door a crack to peek out and see if the coast was clear. (Have I mentioned she's a lot braver than I would have been? :heehee: ) She made it back to the car gracefully with 4 people milling around.
So then we hit Jax, had to detour, stop and have me get directions around a wreck. On the way there Claire realized her makeup on her neck had rubbed onto her collar and exposed the dreaded shadow. Got to the doc, fixed stuff real quick, and she had to get out in a medical complex (many buildings, 3-4 offices each) and climb stairs in her heels. Then, surprise, not a sole practitioner waiting room, but 3 docs in one... 2 substance abuse and our doc. If anyone read there her, they didn't react. Got called in right away.
Had a great session, doc was pretty good. She gave Claire some "homework" to work on. When we left, we walked through a waiting room with 2 male patients and a counselor in it, down the stairs, and got into the car next to 2 guys loading a truck. Again, nobody even reacted. Wow, she was great, really really brave. (Have I mentioned she's gorgeous? :hugs: ) Doc said the only thing she REALLY noticed when she first saw Claire was Claire's height (6'7 in heels), that she passed very well.
Stopped and got gas on the way home, with people parked next to us at the pumps. Claire did great, nervous but great. I'm so proud of her. I think it gave her a real confidence boost :D
Anyway, I'm so happy for her that she took that gigantic first step towards our new life. And I'm oh so proud!!! :hugs:
