Scenario Company lunchtime halloween party, everyone wear a costume

Options:
Risk outing myself at work
Dress business like, suit or nice business dress
wear a very dressy sequined dress
go over the top outrageous
or wear something else non femme

I'd end up wearing the outfit all day long, if I do I'm going to give it a 100% try. Makeup (wife hopefully or secretary at work volentered), wig , shoes (heels of couse) etc. I would also have to deal with any customers that come in. I want to do it but I'm also a tad nervous about it. Open to some input

I'd suggest not trying for the "normal" secretary look.

Instead, go for something like a nurse's uniform, cheerleader, princess, etc. You know, somehing kids would wear, only in an adult version.

Dont i for one love going out but you will not be yourself and apprehensive all day even if you look great yoiu will not be able to enjoy the feling.
Lets say you get help look great and go and you have to answer to customers, if they or you fellow co workers feel this is not your first rodeo in heels and dress the water cooler will be empty at the end of the week.
If your 100 % confadent inyourself doit but if you have concerns may not. leyt us know eiyther way and have a good time.:hugs: Nadeen

Hm ?
I'd go for the "over the top outrageous" or "something else", if you fear to get outed.
If the business style or the dress looks too good (experienced) people might get a bit suspicious. A more caricature like style allows a more ironic interpretation by the folks; that calms them down.

So what if you look like you've walked in heels before. Just say I've been practicing at home so i'd be used to walking in them. As for what to wear for your wonderful holiday experience. If it were me I'd dress to the nines just to be able to feel great for one day. There again if anyone asks tell them you wore the whole outfit while practicing for it.

Since Wicked is a popular play right now about the witch from the Wizard of Oz I would go as a witch. Thats a good femme costume and a good excuse for it.

Do a character. Joan Crawford, One of the Andrews Sisters, something. Back in the 80's I thought up one I was too scared to try out, for an artsy Halloween Party I was invited to. "Boy Adolf, the Nazi Transvestite Singer". Yeah I know.........

You may have already cracked open the closet door. If a secretary has already volunteered to do your makeup, you must have already broached the subject. How did she react? More importantly, how has your wife reacted? Not knowing anything about your business situation, it is impossible to make a real recommendation. Another consideration would be if you could still perform your job responsibilities in whatever you choose to wear? If your situation permits, might I suggest business casual (skirt, blouse, sensible heels).

honestly, someone I know who is DEFINATELY not a crossdresser, has at one time gone to work dressed as a nurse, and once as a nun.. both times he had a full beard so it was meant to be funny. I would suggest a mainstream costume like this, perhaps no makeup (just the costume), at least for the first time out.

The secretary knows that I dressed up a few Halloeens ago and went out with my kids trick or treating and a school party (even made the yearbook). She keeps kidding me about showing her the pictures. I'm not very passable at all but that does not bother me. I sell cars so it's not something that is very physical or dangerous.
Mentioned to the wife about the party, did not go into my thoughts but I'm sure she knows what I might have in mind. She's waiting for me to ask.

GO DRESSED..oops..go dressed as you feel best, and while your dressed, complain about how the shoes fit, how hard it is to walk in them, how the bra is cutting into your should, make comments like "I can see why women bitch all the time, this stuff is painful". You can make it seem you are enjoying the fun of it and not out yourself. Thats what I'll be doing for a gig we're are playing the 28th of OCT.

Be careful how you dress, you might become a secretary permanently. Seriously, enjoy the day.

Some 30+ years ago, my wife and I and a number of friends at work decided to go to Mardi Gras in New Orleans (we were living and working in Atlanta at that time). Part of the arrangements included meeting some of the staff from the New Orleans division office and viewing the parades from their office that was on the main parade route. Since costumes were normal for Mardi Gras day, I decided to go dressed. I went all out - shaved arms & legs, nice dress, pantyhose, heels, new wig, and my best makeup. So, not only did several of my coworkers see me dressed - I met others in my company, including the vice president in charge of the New Orleans office, for the first time fully dressed as a woman, looking much like a reasonably well dressed secretary. Once the initial shock was over, most everyone seemed to admire my bravery. Fast forward a year from that time and the next time I saw that VP was when he was put in charge of another division and I reported to work for him, with a promotion from my previous assignment. The dressing at Mardi Gras was never brought up and never an issue, although I am reasonably sure he didn't forget about it.

You never know for sure what will happen at work until you do it. Dressing to the nines on Halloween could have bad results. But, it might also get you noticed in a positive way not only as someone willing to take risks, but as someone who is willing to do a good job of whatever they are doing.

You CAN go FEM, but do an over the top sorta "Halloweenish" character, like a gypsy fortune teller or really grotesque drag queen----suggesting that you are not really "Serious".

If you look "too good" like a sexy GG or "normal" secretary---THEN folks may wonder. Do something that makes both YOU and your co workers LAUGH.

Searching,

I remember a guy I worked with years ago who had a beard. On halloween, he became a nurse, shaved, white dress, everything. But he was a huge hit, because he chose a costume and played the role. Something to consider.

Do you intend on comming out to your work colleagues.. If not then be cautious. You may be giving them the 'Final' missing piece of the puzzle. Is that worth the risk for a days pleasure???

I think looking too good leaves the door open for a lot of explaining. If you go, choose a costume like a nurse or gypsy or something traditionally Halloweenish. You get to dress and no one is the wiser.

I have friends who attend Mardigraw and he told me you can tell the guys who dress as chicks just how into it there are by the detail they go into. Forget it and go as somthing like a pirate a goul or somthing really creepy and unexpecting like Bill Clinton telling the truth.:heehee:

I agree with some of the comments here. Go over the top. Halloween is the perfect time to dress up. If, as has been said, you go looking totally fem and lady like it could end up outing you. Enjoy yourself, go with the flow.

If its a costume then go over the top which would make everyone else think its costumeish!! Like a Cloepatra getup (snake is optional :D) , or an evening gown, May Westish (double EEs!!) Or Dorthy from the wizard of Oz complete with basket and stuffed dog (don't forget to say "and Toto too?" A lot. Hehehe) !! Else you run the risk of looking like your imatating women which is too close to crossdressing..

Searching -- Since the secretary already said she would help you, nobody can blame you for looking too good. How you look would then depend on her skills. The only costume I would rule out is the very dressy sequined dress. That might be a little acqward to work in and might be a little too much.
