I've always loved the old fashioned, full coverage, heavy duty style of bras and girdles. The wider straps and double sewn seams are a must. Bras at one time had a minimum of 4 or 5 hooks for the very best support. Girdles should have hook and eye closing or a side zipper. The flimsy Victoria Secret styles just don't work.

None of the suppliers seem to carry them . . . why?

you're right, vet, the wispy lingerie of today wasn't designed to hold anything-just for show on some skinny runway models.

I just love the look and feel of those 50's to mid 60's foundation wear! Love those 50's era open bottom girdles with the side zippers and beautiful front satin panels, garter straps/metal hooks and big tabs! Very retro when worn with my full-fashioned stockings. Always have been one of my main weaknesses. Go Betty Paige!!!

Probably same reason corset went out of style. Too confining... Too industrialish.... A virtual straight jacket for the fem body parts!!! Hehehe. Ohhhh. Victoria Secret works fine for me. :)

Having to don that gear would double my dressing time...from 10 to 20 minutes....just-in-time crossdressing would suffer. :D.

Why? I guess times change and folks didn't want to pay for the garments you describe or haul them around all day. However, I agree with you. It's nice to be reminded of what you are wearing. You can still find the kinds of girdles you describe. The more traditional companies (Rago, Custom Maid, Cortland, etc.) still make them. Don't know who still makes bras as you said.

Maybe it would double the time to get dressed, But some of us guys need industrial strength help to get those love handles into a nice stretchy dress. :heehee:

Dear Vet,

This stuff IS still available. It is made in other countries and takes a bit of searching to find. Keep looking. The resources on the web are vast. It's out there.

Just across the border in Canada would be where I would start, then other English speaking countries, then on to others. Good luck, if I come across any suitable sites I will post them here. I normally don't pay much attention to them as I am not really interested in this stuff. I DO remember those times, though, and understand your interest.

Lovies,
Stephenie
