View Full Version : Allergic to breastform adhesive
Some years ago, I fiddled about with some 3M Transpore tape, in efforts to provide cleavage and fasten some light forms. It worked well, but isn't always needed, the way I dress. This last New Years I decided to practice up on it again, had a good evening and cleaned up completely, and the next morning woke up with some pretty severe rash. *sigh*
I have a couple of days off, so today I finally tried some double-sided tape from the BreastformStore (plug plug, no I don't own stock!). After two hours I noticed the rash again, so everything came off. *sigh again* However, I looked at the packaging for the SkinTac Wipe that came with the tape, and it's a rosin-impregnated mesh that you can recharge with a few drops of alcohol.
D'oh! One thing that I've had my hands coated in, is rosin, a natural adhesive that does diddly whether I'm climbing or using the bow on my bass. I cracked a SkinTac Wipe, did a coat on me and the forms, and am now continuing to enjoy a new experience - no bra, just a nice lace bodysuit that provides some firmness and a bit of bounce. (Of such small pleasures comes a good life...)
Has anyone else had these sort of allergic reactions, and if so, what did you do about it?
Have fun,
Shae

I've used the same tape for the Breastform store and I had water blisters on my skin in spots where the tape was. I had the forms on for about 2 days. Then I tried the Hollisters brand of medical spray and I had the same reaction. I did a test for about 6 hours I took off the forms and there were the blisters, small but there. I guess I am one unlucky girl. I love the braless feel! I think about 5 hours is going to be my max time to wear adhesive on my forms.

I also have a reaction to adhesive tape an I only have to have it on for about 30 mins before I start seeing sign of rash, in 98 I had a sledding accedent ( impacted L1 an L2 ) and spent 3 days in hospital thats when I found out, woke up with arm swollen from where they had IV needle taped in place,
My son also has reactions to medical adhesives, he has to visit hospial every 28 day for an infusion ,( has port in chest ) they have special stuff they use to cover up his port once they access it , I have to take him in tomarrow I can find out what it is an if it can be gotten on the market.

I use the Hollister stuff and like the rest of you i also get a rash. As for the water blisters i think that could be down to an ill fitting bra and/or gettin too hot and sweaty?...I sometimes got blisters when i wore a 36B bra but my engineers eye said this was the wrong size so i moved up to a 38A ( still think i should be a 38B?) now i dont get so many blisters.
I think it may be something to do with the way the silicone+adesive+bra all move and pull against the skin and if its the wrong size bra ( most likely too small) then everything is over stressed and rubbing where as a better fitting bra allows for movement and still gives support, and try not get to hot and sweaty as the skin cant breath properly under the silcone?

See if you get a rash from one of the liquid bandage type spreads. If not, use it as a protective coat between your skin and tape or adhesive. Common names are Liquid Bandage, Skin Shield, and Nu Skin. Some make it in a spray can too.
I have also had problems with rashes using the transpore tape. Try a few other brands before giving up on them.
Since your skin is sensitive to these adhesives, this idea is probably out, but if you have no latex sensitivity, try this. Buy the non colored liquid latex and use it like contact cement. Coat your skin and breast forms, let both dry, then attach.
I find the liquid latex a cheap alternative to Hollister's and other adhesives.

My wife also has a chest port for abx therapy, but she uses SkinPrep to prepare the skin before applying a Tegaderm (clear adhesive dressing). It works very well, hardly a rash, and makes removal a breeze. But be sure to get the kind with alcohol. The other kind lessens the action of adhesives.

Well I hope I remember this correcty , being that I didnt right it down when I inquired about the adhesive , (Hepafix, not sure of spelling)
any how it seem that it is only made for this type of application ( transparent plastic with adhesive around edge ) that covers the port to keep bactrial/viral infections out during the infusion, I do know that he show no signs of rash or other problems during the 4 hours that the cover is on him ,
Sorry couldnt be of more help I know I would like to find something that would help myself being that I can not even use normal medical tape let alone Hocky tape in a certain place
