I go once a month to my nail salon for a Manicure,Pedicure,Fill, and Eyebrow wax. It is never a dull moment at the salon. I sat down in the Pedicure chair right next to a young girl of about 8-9 yrs old. She looks at my feet as I am putting them in the tub and says, "OH...you paint your toes like my Grandpa does". Now this kinda takes me back a little. I looked at her and said "Your Grandpa gets his toes polished too?". She replied, "Oh yes, all the time". So we sit there and chitchat about her school and I notice she is getting her toes done in LIME GREEN. So I asked her about it and she says, "Well it is Halloween time, isn't it". I answered, "Yes it is and that is a very pretty shade of GRREN". She smiled and the nail tech helped her out of the chair and as she does she says "I'm getting my fingures done in GREEN too". I said, "Good for you". I had to smile, she was so cute. Then I was done and was again sitting in the next booth to her. She looks down at my toes and said, "That is a lovely color of Red'. I thanked her and she said, "She would have to tell Grandpa that she met another Grandpa that gets his toes painted". Then her mother comes over and she tells her all about it. I'm now just sitting there as Tina works on my nails smilling at her mother and thinking OMG. Her mother looks at my toes and then in a low voice says to me, "You need to meet my Dad, you two have a lot in common". This kinda floors me for a second. Then she smiles and she and her daughter leave. Never a dull moment in the salon. But the really werid part was these two ladies getting their pedicure asked if the TV could be set to ESPN. So the nail tech changes the channel and the TEXAS/OKALHOMA game is on, then all of a sudden it's like being in a sports bar with a bunch of jocks. Boy did it get roudy.

Nope, didn't even get the daughter or Mother's name LOL I thought when the mother came over the daughter started tell her about me, I was sure the mother was going to make a sceine, so was totally shocked and surpised at what she said to me.

At my salon I'm supposedly the only guy to get his nails painted. My pedicurist says others have pedicures, but I'm the only one with polish. JoAnn, I don't know if I'd been able to think and speak if that happened to me.

I have had a few comments from other customers like "that is a nice color" or "That color suits you". I usually don't say anything unless the other person says something first. I have never had a bad response at the salon. Most of the lady customers either too polite to say anything, are intriqued, or don't care. Once in a while there is another man in the salon, and I have asked Tina, if she has other male customers and she said yes, and most are gay. She then said she knows I am not gay, since she also does my wife too. I laughed when she said it. That is polish and eyebrow waxing. I did asked once if any CD's came in, She replied that they have one or two that come in and no one makes a seince about it.

Wow, all the gender rules were thrown out the window of that salon.

Loved your story, Jo Ann.
Like yourself, i love having manicures and pedicures done. Seeing other women's reactions is a fun part of the experience and i don't feel embarrassed...unless their husband or boyfriend is with them! GULP! Feel a bit uneasy then!
