Being tall and trying to find properly fitting women's clothes is sometimes frustrating. I have ordered tall sizes from Eddie Bauer, Avenue and Lane Bryant and have never had any issues with women's dress pants and jeans but sleeve and torso length is killing me. Any of the tall shirts I order barely tuck in especially with lower rise pants. The sleeves are almost never long enough.

I did see this tunic which I though I would try. It appears to be cut a bit longer than most other dress shirts. Has anyone else found a suitable solution or am I Ithe only tall one around here?

I totally understand being 6'4" with a size 14 shoe. I have had the hardest time finding shoes that are sexy, not ****ty. Seems most shoes made in that size are very high heels or platforms. Nothing really sensible and stylish. Especially in a sandle or wedge. I would love to find some wedges to wear...but nothing yet.

If anyone has some websites stashed away somewhere that you think offer some sexy and sensible shoes..please pass them along..would be much appreciated.

Hugs

You're not the only one!

This does not drive me quite as crazy as it used to, for two reasons:

1. I now dress so that my fem waist is about 1.5 inches higher than my male waist. My male waistline is just below the navel; my fem waistline about an inch or so above. The fem waistline is (happily in my case) the narrowest part of my torso, but I "set" it there by trial and error - seeing what gave me the most fem outline.

2. I leave a lot of my tops untucked these days. Based on a lot of observation, a great many (I would dare to say most) tops and blouses are worn "out". Sometimes the margin of overlap is narrow - an inch or so, but this is much less problematic than tucking things in and having them constantly pulling out!

There are both physical and online stores that specifically cater to tall women. You'll find them easily via google. I find the selection a bit limited, and a bit pricey, but for wardrobe essentials like oxford shirts and the like you might want to consider getting a few items that way.

Good luck!

Erica (all 6'3" of her)

One of the most important measurements is the back length - neck to waist. It is this measurement that makes things difficult for tall people. The dresses I make are ideal for tall folk, since I make the skirt just a bit longer as just as they were in the 50's, and my body length is the same as a 6ft plus person. A tall person will also have problems with the sleeve lengths. Life just isnt fair, is it

Hi there fellow tall lady...

At 6' 3' and 230 lbs (down from 250 and shrinking...shrink...shri....), I too have not yet found a good place to get tall girl shirts, tops, and cami's etc... And tall girl panty hose are a real problem... Who makes the shirt in your post? As you say, it looks like it may be long enough in the body to tuck into low rise jeans.

A few weeks ago, a helpful soul posted the website URL for a tall girls site that had a number of dresses, shirts, and cami's that would fit us tall people, but sadly, someone stole the laptop that I had saved all my CD info in... Let's hope he (or she?) is interested in cross dressing as there was a LOT of great stuff saved in the memory...

stay away from slacks and jeans!! And stick with skirts and dresses. Skirts typically are higher on your hips so your top doesn't have to be as long. And 3/4 length sleves are always in style!!

Even us shortish girls (5 ft 9 - size 10) have issues with sleves and I perfer tight fitting knit tops to blouses. I wear a womans large top but sometimes the sleves are an issue for me..

I have the same problem. It is frustating and rules out a lot of the pretty tops that you see in the smaller and regular sizes. Just have to look around more and takes longer to shop. Gee that's a real heartbreaker.

Hi Deedee,

Yeah, tell me about it, I'm 6'5" myself. There was a great tall girl's shop near my place in Chicago, of course it went out of business within a few months of me finding it, but it showed me that there are clothes out there that actually fit us amazons well.

Besides the sites mentioned by others, here are some I'm familiar with. Silhouettes and Spiegel aren't talls per se, but I've found that their women's plus sizes tend to run tall, at least they used to, haven't bought from them in about 8 years.

Regarding pantyhose, my favorites are the various styles available from http://www.silkies.com/ , if you're really tall as well as large like me, their X-Queen size fits me absolutely perfectly, and they even have knee-hi's that are actually knee-high on me, trouser socks too.

Good luck,
Carol:hugs:

Hi Corrine,

I wear size 15/16/17 depending on style and brand, so I'm at even more of a loss than you, but in case you haven't seen my past postings regarding shoes sites in the past check out a page of links that I've put together at http://community-2.webtv.net/CAW_1976/Largesizewomensshoe/

The sites there all go to size 14 at least, many to 15, 16, or 17. One even does custom shoes to size 20, but they're temporarily not taking orders.

Women's shirts are cut short, though, so they don't tuck in.

But I am with you on the armlength side of it... *grumble*

My height generally annoys me - why couldn't I have been about 4" shorter!?

At 6'5" I totally feel your pain - I started making my own clothes because of it! I did find ways to work with it though - you might be able to find sweaters that you can wear as 3/4 sleeves or if you're really lucky a stretchy top with ruching at the sleeves that can be cut out
