But ...but ...but I don't get embarrassed any more......

I had 3 errands to run at lunch, went to the truck outfitter for a tailgate lock (steeling tailgates is big money), went to Home Depot to find some grout, and lastly to the grocery to pickup a few things, all with a light coat of mascara on!! So hit 1 and 2 and went into the grocery and approached the isle where a certain product was and a lady had her cart parked and was looking at things next to what I wanted to...and I verred away, embarased to let her see me looking at what I wanted!!! I circled around the isle for a few minutes until she was gone and no one was looking...

I can't believe I feel this way...I can buy any fem item from anyone without flintching!!! I can wear fem things out in public so why can't I let anyone see me looking at........Hair Color for Men!!!! It sounds crazzy to me!! But the wife mentioned last night that I should color my gray hair!! And I thought it was a great idea though I would perfer flaming red hair. Hehehe

But as I approached the mens haircolor I felt ashame.....like I'm vane or something!! Does that make any scence?? I don't mind if people I don't know see me as a crossdresser but I don't wat them to think of me as a vane male?? Go figure!! It was a very wierd moment, dejavue all over again!!!

Hope my new wigs get here soon!!! They cover gray much better and appearently I'm not affraid to wear them!! Hehehe

Anyone else come accross any feelings like this??

Love Karren

I used to color my hair (while I was looking for a job last year), but had to stop, when I became alergic to the dye. It made me swell up like a chipmonk. LOL I don't think I felt the same way as you discribed. I guess because my wife, friends, and family didn't make any big deal about it and so I never felt self conciense about using hair dye.
I ended up getting a job without my hair being colored.

Maybe your mind was telling you your looking in the wrong section. You may need to stick with the womens hair care products, it will go better with your mascara :heehee:

Actually not kidding!! It was the strangest thing....unexpected....caught me by surprise, this embarrassing feeling just came welling up out of nowhere.. And I was helpless to stop it!!

Even after she left is was very self-concious that people were looking at me!! But I did buy some!! A shad or two lighter than my own hair.. So no one will notice I guess. Lol.

Even the mens hair color is boring!! Where's the reds, or the blue (for older gents). Hehe. Even the name stink...light brown. Lighter brown.. Realy lighter brown... Vs the womens!! Fire engine hot red!! Or whoo baby veluptious blonde!! :D

I went grey at 18.... true, true, true. There was no such thing as a MAN'S hair dye then, so I've been buying gal's dye for years, and years... errrrm... 20 years to be exact :)

I really can't be arsed to worry anymore... If a female checkout gal holds a a pack of knickers in an accusing sneering way I'm liable to say 'Get over it.'. I really just can't give a $#@* no more... 'Oi, you never worn a dress mate?' :)

OMG...What are we going to do with you, Karren? LOL

Seriously, though: I bet it's just a sensitive issue for any 50ish male and buying any sort of hair color would be difficult for any guy--not just a crossdresser. Hope that makes you feel a little better.

I am not sensitive about my hair color, It is mostly gray now. I blame it on my wife and kids:heehee: , In my mind I am still 29 years old, so it cant be age that is causing it. But I have always had the attitude that this is who I am and anyone that doesn't like it, (Well, too bad). SO I earned all those gray hairs. That's That.

Karren never gets embarress. It's him who is embarress. It's he who can't do the things that Karren can and get away with. Same thing here Glenda can walk up and buy anything and not care who's there or who's looking but let him look at hair color for men he will turn and run if someone is watching. Thenwhen he does buy it he goes to self serve check out so no one knows. But he can buy bras and panties all time for Glenda.

Karen,
I used to use hair color for men, but here lately have been using women's hair color seems to me that it covers the gray a lot longer than men hair color.
Just my two cents worth.

So, the solution is, Karren and Glenda need to go buy for their men. Grab the little basket, buy some boxers, hair color, viagra, and aqua velvet. That's one way to fluster the hell out of the check out person.

Karren, its not a vanity issue. Its an honest to goodness reality issue. For some men, grey hair points to "winding down the years". Basically you are realizing you are getting older. I assume Karren is about 10 years younger than your male counter-part, and that also means that Karren is getting older too.:D
As for my, I shave and keep my hair (whats left of it!) really short to avoid seeing the grey!

Hi Karren;
Gee, I am in my late 50's and very new to cd, but when I decided to do this, I knew I would face the world when I went out. Please don't worry about some cashier in a store, most don't care about it, Besides, your a lady.....buy ladies hair color!
Have a great day

You just didn't have the attitude at the time, so you walked away. That's understandable, and a protective move. Most buyers of men's underwear are women (buying for their SO's), and I wouldn't be surprised if more women than men purchase men's hair color for the same reason. You just hadn't thought to have the attitude that you were buying it for your SO--and you were, not just for your male persona, but also for your wife, who suggested it. But there's nothing wrong with not wanting to share such an intimate purchase, and choosing a particular shade, with a stranger. So walk around when you need to.

There is a really easy way to get rid of the gray, plus your wigs will fit better and there is nothing hide or tuck in. You could shave your head, :heehee: , or maybe, just go with a crew cut. It would be hard to see the gray, and your wife would probably like the manly cut:heehee:

I know, it was just a thought, imagine Karen with no hair:devil:

Karen - Last year I told my wife that I was tired of having more and more gray hair and I wanted to color it to get back to my original brown hair color. She said fine, but please go to my hairdresser so she can do it right. Best advice I ever got. Great color, and I now use her for my haircuts. I'm pretty much strictly in guy mode but it does not bother me at all to sit in a hair salon for cut and color. You will get much better results by having it done by a pro.

Karren -- I couldn't believe it as I read this post. Well, it could be a lot worse. You could have been panty or bra shopping when it happened.

Agreed! I go to the female checkers just to see whether they're going to get flustered (I rarely get flustered anymore) when I buy a pack of panties. This has led to some interesting encounters. :-)
