Hi,
Im new here, and have a request. I am an ftm and want to apply for a gender change and new identity document. My girlfriend had to wait two years to receive hers so i want to apply asap. The problem is that I need two letters from doctors/psychs stating that I am on hormones etc. I have just started seeing a doc and usually they are very fussy about giving you a letter due to people suing them later if things dont work out for them. So, just wanted to know if there are any doctors/psychs among you who would be willing to help with this. Any suggestions? Thank you for listening:hugs:

Hi Allan and welcome. I don't know if we have any docs here, but I think there are others who have received these letters you need, so I hope they can give you some advice. I don't know where you live, but is there some kind of LGBT center or other trans-friendly place that may be able to give you direction, advice and maybe some referral to a doctor that helps other transgendered people? Or maybe a site like FTM International can direct you to someone in your area. These are just off the top of my head. Maybe someone else has a better idea.
As Kieron suggested, please introduce yourself in the FtM section. I hope you'll stick around. :wave2:

Hi Allan,
I'm sure the rules are very different from place to place. Where I live (British Columbia, Canada) the rules are determined by either the provincial or federal government. How you go about making changes will be determined by where you live. If you happen to live out here on the wet coast I can probably help. If so, please PM.

Allan, you don't say which state you live in but the procedures very from state to state. In California getting you name changed is easy but will cost under $1000. Drivers license is relitively easy just have you physician fill out a form DL389 stating that you are transitioning from MTF or FTM and pay your $19 at the DMV for the cost of a duplicate license. For legal name change there is a few documents to be filed in court. A $345 filing fee payable to the court, and having to run a ad in a newspaper recognized by the court for 28 consectutive days. But for gender change you have to have a letter from your physician stating that you have undergone SRS. SSN change mearly requires that you take you final court papers stating your name change to the SSA office and have them change your name in the SSA database. At least that is what my friends had to go to here in California. Hope this is helpful to you, but the best thing to do is to find a local transgender law group in your area who would probable have all of the information and forms that you would need to file.
