View Full Version : Identity Issues

While doing some reading on the internet, someone had written up on gender identification issues. The premise is that as feminism has taken off it leaves little for men identify with, causing an increase in identification issues. I don't know how true this is, but in some ways I can see it. Clothing for men just keeps getting more and more restrictive, as women claim more and more as theirs. What are your thoughts?

Was in the mall again today and noticed that men's clothing were coming back out in more and brighter colours. Maybe drab won't be quite as drab soon.

Wow!

Unfortunately, the sizes, even small, are too big for me, but at least its a start.

However, the ladies departments got my money once again.

I think it going to be a while before we see panyhose for men in the stores again.

I wonder if the lack of choice for men is driving a lot of our crossdressing. I know that I buy and wear more and more women's clothes even in male mode.

I do notice more color as well. But really it's more than color, it's cut and style. You've seen the shirts, tough guys wear pink. Well.. not really. Think your really tough? Wear a skirt or halter top, heck a top with any kind of pleating.

I believe the lack of clothing is 80% of my reason. Women have so many ways they can express themselves. The other 20% is I really don't want to be assocated with typical guy things. Hunting, Fishing, Trucks, gotee's ( I really hate those things ) large wompy work boots, really anything macho I just do not like. I never have and never will.

I did do more reading and from what I read more phycologist are coming to the conclution that what we experience is genetic and happend long before we were born. I know I remember being shorter than my moms waist and screeming and crying for a pink barret. My sister had them, why couldn't I? My mom did give in eventually and put it in my hair. I went outside to play only to have the nieghborhood boys and girls laugh and tease me. I remember sitting near the back yard playing with the pink barret feeling shameful and guilty. Thinking back, really sad. I can honestly say, I wanted it because of the color.

I don't think fishing and hunting are "man" things, I know a lot of women that hunt, and I think there may actually be more women then men who fish for recreation. Here where I live, I see lots of women behind the wheel of those big, loud pickups going down the street. Nascar and football are very much enjoyed by GGs. 30-40 years ago you probably couldn't say that, but women's choices were restricted by traditional roles back then, very few women were part of corporate America back then either. Woman have had to work very hard for the freedoms that they have now, and they still have a ways to go before they'll be truely equal with men.
Gotees are a guy thing, I will give you that.
I've never been a macho type man, I don't do manhood well at all, never have, but I still like to hunt and shoot, wish I could do it in a cowboy skirt and makeup, but I don't think I could pass at this point. I'd love to do Cowboy Action Shooting as a woman. There's lots of women in that shooting sport.

I totally disagree that men's clothing is getting more restrictive. I think it's just the opposite. There's plenty of menswear that's in interesing cuts, creative fabrics, cool colors, etc. It's just that most men don't have the balls to wear it. They live in this mentality that there's nothing out there in menswear besides polos and khakis. I was out in boy mode tonight, wearing a killer caramel-coloured suede leather blazer, tight black t-shirt with an embroidered pattern (from Rock and Republic), a pair of bootcut Seven jeans, and a pair of black Chelsea boots. Be creative as a guy!!! It's a great way to bring your femme side into your day-to-day life.

Was at the mall today and I saw a new store, can't recall the name but I thought gee those are some nice suits with a layered look to them. Then I realized the mannequins has obvious breasts on them. The more I looked the more I saw was guys clothes made for women. The only thing I didn't see was a tie around any mannequins neck. What's next a male falix that just pops in the tighty Whites with a battery backup ? No offense intended ladies and germs.

personally i dond get dressed nice that often. im mainly a jeans and T-shirt person. but when i do i tend to wear alot of oranges, yellows, blues. often just brown pants. as for going to a mall i dont go in them that often, because i end up coming out with tons of stuff i dont need and very little cash.

I identify with both men and women. Maybe that's why I get along with everyone so well. I can play on both sides of the "fence" with equal ease. I've learned to actually listen to what everyone says and be responsive and empathetic. It's tougher to navigate as a guy in this world than most people think because of social conditioning. Basically though, except for the plumbing and the hormones, guys and girls are more alike than most people would be willing to admit. Bottom line is that it's tough being a guy these days which is probably why a lot of us here prefer to express our softer sides whenever we can. It's really not necessary to "dress" the part but it seems to put us closer to women and the more "desirable"traits when we express it outwardly. Don't forget, some gals would rather be guys as they see THAT as more desireable. The person inside is the important thing. What we choose to look like is personal choice. Ericka
