A bit more of the continuing saga of DT ... The only Halloween festivities I've attended have been a couple of elaborate parties for kids, in which my two children particapted. The first was a classmates' affair over at the house where my oldest's new best friend lives, the 2nd was a neighborhood get-together. Since I've been to the school busstop wearing a skirt a few times, I wasn't too nervous - but still ... friends of friends ... so I had my eye poised for anything that might turn up the heat for my second-grader. "Is that your mom?" "No, that's my dad." The key to social ease I've found to be (1) politeness & a willingness to help out,(2) notice & play with the kids and (3) assess who the 'alpha mom' is and quickly win her heart. Luckily for me, the alpha moms in each of these occasions have very open hearts. Could have swore a guy flirted with me briefly - probably only on a very intuitive level; that's pretty new terrain for me. All in all, the only down note is my SO who, excusing herself with conspicuous rapidity from the second (and more important) event, might be a bit jealous of my making the mom circuit so readily - a shame, there seems to be plenty of room for two moms (so to speak) in this situation ... and, after all, none of the men offer me congrats on my hi-tech job (like they do with her). The main thing is my kids are comfortable with their family and project that. Lucky me? Hell yes.
Halloween outfit for Tuesday night? Since I'll be the one staying home to give out the candy, I decided: waitress - 'take your order?'
