Jay,

You might like:

Rubyfruit Bar & Grill
531 Hudson St., New York, NY 10014
between Charles and 10th Sts.
212-929-3343

Scene: Bar Food, Lesbian Bar, Private Party Space, Restaurant & Bar, Singles Scene, Romantic, Live Music

It's a lesbian bar in the West Village, and CDs hang out there sometimes (as well as some gay men). Restaurant downstairs, bar upstairs, good music, friendly patrons, laid-back atmosphere.

Jay16, I like East of Eighth in Chelsea, just east of Eighth street on W 23rd. You can stop at the bar downstairs after you eat. A lot of really nice people there.

Jamsey.

OMG. That is heart wrenching. After reading that I immediately set out to write Amenesty International, an organization which I do my best to support. As I should have expected, they are already on the case: http://www.amnestyusa.org/news/document.do?id=ENGAMR511642006

Thanks for the update, Brianna. I'd love to get my hands around those cops' throats. :Angry3:

Generally speaking, NYC establishments are gay-friendly and trans-friendly. Unfortunately, there are plenty of transphobic and homophobic people everywhere and the worst part is when the cops side with them and make things worse. So, bottom line . . . be careful out there people - even in the big, diverse city. :hugs:
