I try to let mine grow as long as I can get away with. I just love it when they start to hit the keys before my fingers. That is usually about the time where I have to be careful about somebody saying something and they get cut shortly thereafter:(

I try to let them grow, but I break them or tear them. But I have 23 more drive up's before retirement...BJ

Mine are (quite) long and sometimes it can be difficult to type. They do look very long for a guy......also I paint them either a pale pink or clear and shiny. Of course this all happens in boy mode, and at work.
My wife keeps threatening (in a nice way) that she's going to take me to the nail salon for an "American" one day. :D

You'll get used to typing with long nails. :)
I type with the pad of my finger now instead of the tip like I used to.

I used the DIY ones on halloween and discovered that it is difficult to do most things. Simple stuff like handing out candies to the kids was difficult, I lost half of them on the floor many times. Undoing the seatbelt is difficult (you can't push the button with the end of your finger). Scratching your head feels neat and sounds funny. Typing is interesting. I found that you have to be extra gentle or risk popping a nail off or hurting your finger. They do make my otherwise large and male hands look for feminine.

Had tips put on while in male mode and had tips put on while in the female mode. To me, I am the same person no matter how I look. I don't keep them as long as a once did because they break off too easily.

I get a manicure, and pedicure, every two weeks. The manicure is Acrylic and they are long enough to make it difficult to type. But like others I use the pads, instead of the tips. I always have the fingers done in a pale pink and my toes are always in a very bright pink or red. Just wish it was warmer so I could still wear my sandals.:heehee:

I have pretty strong nails, they don't break easily, but I tend to chip them at work and have to file or cut them to fix the chip. I like to grow them out, but not so long that they cause me problems at work. I sometimes use a clear coat on them, but I'm still a bit self-concious about that.

I shape and sometimes paint (clear/pink usually) my longish natural nails myself. Clear (at least) coat helps prevent them breaking or chipping. Tried a clear matte coating Amber? Also type with the pads mostly. I fing after shortening the nails typing with the ends hurts a bit as they're not used to it anymore.

I've had my nails done for about four months. Tried various colors, but really love the current one, Revlon 190 "Strawberry Electric".
It has been quite a challange to do every day things, like try picking up a coin that you've droped while standing at the checkout, LOL.
Anyway, I love my nails, even my nail-tech says "they're so long" every time she see me. I have not measured them, but the middle finger looks about
5/8" long.

Mine are usually about 1/4 inch past my fingertips, I have fiberglass nails that I get filled every two weeks. I use the tips of my fingers when I type, love the "clickity clack" sound they make :)

Brianna Lovely those are beautiful nails. Wish I could "get away" with color on mine. I keep them covered with a clear coat. Sally Hanson "Hard as Nails" works well for me. I do mine about every two weeks. Get a full professional manicure about every six weeks.
Btw I "came out" to my nail tech last week and she has no problem with it, in fact she rather likes the idea. Said it would make for a more "fun" time when doing my nails. I sense "girl talk time" :D

Nope, don't wnt them for that reason and that I'd tear them up working on the car or home remodeling projects or when I go underground.....That's why I use stck-on's..

I like the very clipped, virtually-no-white-showing look for fingernails, mine or others. That is, to me that is the femininity I want. Clear gloss on very short nails just seems like what a naturally beautiful girl would do. Toenails, for me, should be a little longer, and painted, definitely.

I have had my nails done proffesionaly several times in he past year and a half. It takes a good week or two to relearn how to do a lot of the simple things we normaly take for granted. Unfortunately my job does not allow fake nails of any type,soI haveto go without, unless on vacation.

I have had acrylic nails for over a year now. WIfe don't like me to let them get too long, so when then get between 1/4 to 1/2 long, I go to the nail salon. Then it is a full pedicure with RED toe nail polish, manicure, fill, and now I include eyebrow waxing.
I have found that using the pads of my fingures works best when typing on the keyboard. Being a sofware engineer, I use the keyboard a lot. LOL
Over the last year or so, I have only gotton one bad comment about my nails. I had a GG tell me I had girly nails. Otherwise I get mostly great comments from GG's about how nice my nails look. Funny never gotton a comment from a GM. Only looks. LOL

I just had mine done for Halloween. I tried growing them out and 7 of them made it...I needed 3 falsies attached. It was a delight to watch the manicurist working on my fingers. I wasn't dressed yet but did so right after they dried. I was especially impressed with having them shaped and of course the red polish was such fun.
Since then I've cut them back. I agree - typing is really tough.

I don't really enjoy long nails, but let them grow out the month or so before halloween so they look nice when I go out.
As usual, I broke TWO this year in the last days before halloween this year :(
I pretty much trimmed them back to 'guy' length as soon as the holiday was over.

I commented about this on other threads. I get mine acryliced, which solved a breaking/chipping/splitting problem that I had consistently when being aboard. Those that have similar problems working on cars, remodeling, gardening, etc., should give a whole lot of consideration to giving acrylic a try. Maybe try just one or two fingers for a comparative test. A good operator can do the job and keep the appearance of untreated nails if that is an issue. I use clear polish on mine, and they are a little longish and nicely rounded and they look apppropriate when I am en femme.

I've done the stick on nails a few times, fully expecting them to come loose quickly during the day. I saw this thread today, remembered I had a box of accesories I was throwing out. Found an old set of stick ons and am wearing them as I type.. not easy.. takes getting used to... look out typos... LOL... A few years ago when I lived in Sonoma County, Ca., there were 5-6 events I was going to attend during the fall. I decided I wanted to add nails to my outfit.. heh.. I found a nail shop with a manicurist that had a great sense of humor and enjoyed doing my nails. I'd be the only guy in the shop getting acrylic nails put on. Been too long since then. Maybe get them done for a New Years Eve party.

Her axes have some pretty wide necks. Mine are always a minimum of a quarter-inch long, and I let them get to about three-eighths inch for the monthly Illusions social. Sally Hansen Apricot Base Coat is the usual cover.
And yes, I can't play guitar at all with them (too many strings, too narrow a neck, haven't touched a six-string since '01, although I managed reasonably well with my cousin's old Guild 12-string), but electric and standup bass, accordion, and trombone aren't an issue, and I need serious nails for the autoharp and the harp. Typing isn't any problem (good-quality IBM keyboard), and when working in my trade, I wear Ansell Hyflex nitrile-foam gloves.
Oh, and girl, you're awfully cute!

american is pink base with a off with tip not as with as french. I keep my nails between 1/40and 1/2 inch past my finger tips for the past few years I go to the nail salone every two weeks for a fill. I have people commint on my nails oftin some ask why my nails are long and polished some just look at them with no commint and some say how nice thear are but if theay ask I just tell them thats how I like them after all its my nails and if i want them long its my choice I dont know of any laws. If you want long nails go for it its not as bad as you might think as far as the commints go.

I got my nails done for the first time on the 31st. It was completely enjoyed.
I don't know how I did it but I managed to get my nails out around 1/4 inch past the figure tip without any major damage. The lady doing my manicure said that she knows some gg's who would kill for nails like mine. Unfortunately I had to cut them all off the next day. Oh well, guess I'll have to do it all over again. What's an "American"?
Hello Katrina,
I suppose the best way to describe an "American manicure" is a subtle French manicure. It's a pink base but instead of getting bright white tips the tips are more of an ivory color and so it looks a little more natural.
hi girls well here are my nails .. sorry no makeup working today outside so i look drab eww..hugs

Was servicing a fast food restaurant the other day and this GG had longish "claws". As she pushed the buttons on the cash register she kept making mistakes and took three times as long for the transaction. There is a time and place for everything and I'd had told her to go home till she cut her nails.

As a child I used to bite my nails but now I like to let them grow (no chewing now!).
Unfortunately my work (electrician) means damage is inevitable as is questions from work coleagues on site. They also get a lot of dirt underneath.
My wife will comment when they get too long and should be cut and this is generally because hers are in poor condition. I do try to grow them so that I can shape and paint them once in a while rather than have stick on nails.
