If you wind up in the hospital just hope you have clean underwear. A lot of men shave their legs, just say you're a big fan of the Tour d France.
I shaved my arms for Halloween, then remembered that I was going to wear a long sleeved sweater.
Hair on your arms and legs grows back. The hair on top of my head does not.

Yes, I worried, for about two minutes, then said 'the heck with what people may think' and starte shaving. Now I shave face, arms, chest and legs every morning.
I've only had a few people say anything and it's usually something like 'nice legs'. If I'm in drab and think that the remark was ment to be nasty, I just smile, soften my voice and say, "Why, thank you, honey", that seems to shut them up.

Hospital, who cares? I'd be more concerned with whatever brought me to the hospital in the first place, not whether I had hair or not.

Shave it, who cares cares what they think, just hair.

There is such a great variety of hair density among men, that most people don't notice the lack of hair, unless they know you and have seen very hairly legs in the past. My hair density is moderate on my legs, and no one has commented about the lack of hair . I wear shorts at motorcycle rallies, and have not had comment one in the eight years I've been shaving my legs. Worry only about your SO's feelings, and go from there.

I shave my legs and do not think anything about it. They are your legs and should be able to shave them if u want. If anyone asks tell them it none of there business. Leave it at that. Smooth legs feel so sexy:D

Get shaving Vera! You'll look and feel so much more feminine! Personally I shave absolutely everywhere apart from my arms. And don't worry about people finding out... it's pretty common for plenty of non-crossdressing men to prefer the smooth look!

Vera, believe me ,medical personal have seen far stranger things than men with hairless legs. They are professionals and are there really only to see to your health. I wax my legs and bikini area but before I did I really didn't have much hair anyway, no one said anything about it then.

Go on ahead and shave

If I worried about ending up in hospital I'd never leave the house, but if I do end up there I'd hope they were more interested in repairing the broken machine than going all Trinny and Susanah over my discarded clothes. A very English comment, from a very English patient ;)

If you are worried about what people will say then you shouldn't want to dress in the first place. Really I agree with the other Ladies here, just live your life as you see fit and don't worry about what others think. I one time had to have an operation on my knee, the nurse came in before the operation and asked which knee, I showed her and she put bright red finger nail polish on the big toe of that foot. I told her she could do it is she did all of them, but she just had a straight face and painted only the big one, (Bummer).

I used to worry about that too so don't feel bad.

I was on TV last night, although the shot of my legs was a second or less, I didn't care.
I travelled, did shorts, swimsuits, nobody cares unless you act weird about it.
I know my mom noticed once, but after a tan nobody seems to notice.

Funny thing is, I've seen a lot of native Americans, Samoans (sp?) - they don't even HAVE body hair and people dont' care (I think it's far sexier without it).

Fear not, besides I've BEEN to the doc with my legs shaved, pits shaved, nobody said anything because I just got so confident that I don't care.

The only comment made was by an ex G/F once "Oh, you shave your arm pits".

Nothing else has ever been said.

So if that's all that is stopping you it's just a matter of making the leap and getting the CONFIDENCE from it, that took me a while.

Speaking of, I'm due for a leg shave this morning...ex-foliation too, YUM!!!!

Oh, and once you FEEL how good it feels and get USED to it, that confidence level will skyrocket and you too won't care.....

Vera, the other girls are right... the staff at the hospital won't care one iota how your shaved. They are there to see to your health needs. And trust me, a guy with a shaved body is nothing compared to a lot of the other things they have seen. Besides, if you are sick or injured enough to require hospitalization, embarrassment will be the last thing on your mind.

Leg shaving is basically a 'non-issue'. It is really just in your head.

The VERY WORST thing that might ever happen is that you get a comment once or twice, but in 20 years of leg shaving this has never happened to me. If you are worried about it, just have some kind of comment ready like 'Yeah, my leg hair gets to be like an Amazon jungle sometimes, so I just have to go in and clear-cut it" :)

BTW: If I were ever to need emergency medical care, I don't think I'd worry as much about the shaved legs as I would about my yellow cotton panties with purple and green flowers on them, or the lacy bra I'll probably have on :D

Now THAT is something I think about sometimes... going to the hospital for chest pains and having the nurse cut my shirt open to find a nice Victoria's Secret lace bra... but there are more CDs out there than we realize, so I'm sure any medical professional out there has seen it all before many times.

I am not in the hot tub circuit, but I understand that many 'tubbers' get Brazilians before they tub. The less hair you have, the fewer places for bacteria to hide!
Just a few months after I rediscovered dressing, two years ago, I ended up in the cardiac emergency unit. Nobody cares about your shaved legs or shaved chest. If they do, they shouldn't be in the health care industry. I shave most of my body every day, with a thorough shave on Saturday. Use something like Aveena shaving cream to minimize shaving bumps. Nobody will notice. Well, can't say that, I have had some nice comments on my legs. Just do it, accept it, forget about it. Enjoy. w.

I am a medical professional. Believe me, sweety, we don't have the time or the energy to bother about your legs. We are far too busy trying to make you well and then fill out the ENDLESS pile of paperwork that goes along with healthcare today before the next one comes in.

Vera honey,
I too have been shaving my legs for over 35 years now. Actually my whole lower bosy - underarms, chest, groin and legs. Nobody has ever said a word and, living in Florida, I wear shorts and a tank top most every day and so a lot of swimming at one of our local community pools.
And also, Vera, you really don't even need a ready excuse. Do have one if you think it will make it easier but, remember it, because you may have to confirm it - or worse, you may get some questions about your hobby you won't be able to answer. Like, from a biking freak, what model bike do you ride, how is it geared, how far do you go, and other more difficult questions because their interested in your hobby. Actually, noboidy has ever asked me about my lack of body hair, but I would say because I want to, I like the look and feel and it makes me feel good. Not that it's really any of their business. End of conversation.

Competitve swimmers and people in triathalons, and competitive bicyclers always shave there legs. I would not give it a second thought, I doubt a doctor would give it a second thought either.

No-one cares about this anymore. I shave legs, arms and chest. Never had a comment from family neighbours strangers etc. I have just been on a touring holiday with 25 other people I didn't know wearing shorts and t-shirts and no-one said a word. One other guy on the trip had shaved legs as well. My main fear if incapacitated in hospital is that the yukky hair would grow back. Do it and relax about it.

Go ahead and shave it all off, you wont regret it. I was nervous at first but after six months of shaving noone really notices. I even had the trip to the hospital for good measure (kidney stones) and no one noticed not even my brother who was with me.

Vera,

At first my wife was quite upset that I had shaved my legs. As time has worn on it does not seem to bother her any longer or at least it isn't as big an issue. She's been gaining quite well in understanding this part of me. And I love her to pieces!

As for the doctors? I just recent had two encounters with them. One an X-Ray Tech. She had lying on my back and adjusting my torso for shots of my back, when she touched my leg she must have noticed them being shaved as she remarked only with "nice legs". To which I did thank her!

A couple weeks later, I had to see a dermatologist who has been treating me for a light case of psoriasis on my shins. Well he just said "looks as if the meds are working well". That was it!

So, go on and shave, feels great!

Vera, I've known a couple of nurses. Believe me when I tell you that men with shaved legs (or any other part of you) is nothing compared to some of the things they've seen while working in hospitals.

I occasionally shave all over...arms, legs as well as "down there". So far I've had no comments from anybody. My wife isn't especially enthusiastic about my dressing, but she is happy for me to shave. She says it makes me look younger and also makes me feel nice

I have been hair free for a year now and never had 1 person comment, except my wife and she loved it. I was nervous for a few days wearing shorts this summer, but it was all jsut in my head. I think people notice hairy legs more than shaved ones from my experience. and it feels so great too!!!!

As everyone says RE: the hospital, don't be silly, it's your body, etc. My best friend is a doctor, he used to work in A&E and believe me, shaven legs would be the last thing on his mind. (The things that really shock medics are some people's apparent lack of care for their own wellbeing. One man with a broken neck insisting he go outside for a cigarette?!)

As per everyday life, I guess some people's horizons need to be expanded, but many excuses, from "I'm a swimmer" "I'm a cyclist" "My wife likes it" "I like it" "Why are you interested in my legs!!?" to "I'm a crossdresser, so what?" can be used.

I felt a little bit embarrassed when I had to have a circumcision last year with no pubic hair in sight. No one said anything of course, and I haven't seen any of the staff since. Or if I have, I didn't remember who they were and I'm sure the opposite was true.

as the song says, do something everyday that scares you. After a while it won't any more.

Remember this: We don't have time to worry about what others think, there are more important things to worry about.

That's the motto I live by every day.

I was in the emergency last Monday, funny it never occurred to me that my legs were shaved till the nurse said "the pants too"! I'll be honest I didn't feel completely rite, men just don't ware thin one piece light blue gowns that tie in the back with two strings, and ya my shaved legs didn't help me feel any better either......... Man up dog quick, These people can't tell a thing by looking at your legs, just be comfortable with yourself, rite? I believe that so I felt calm even after the first nurse who was obviously surprised had looked at me.

All in all not bad, sure there are people that read into things, they may not agree, but its none of their business and they probably already know it. Personally I'm more concerned about how things are kept at home. If I was ever raided it would sound something like....... "Hey Linda, what the hell's you son doing with all this crap!!!? Hes not gay is he?"...... That would be a long recovery for someone.

The circumcision story reminded me of a trip to the docs...

When I went in for a Vasectomy in 2001 it was the same thing, a gown, shaved legs, and a landing strip (I hope you know what that is) too!

Nurse came in, and she actually SMILED at me when she saw that.....she was overly friendly (Not flirtatious) the entire time. No funny looks (and I would have detected this!!)

Been shaved 24/7 for years. Have been to doctors, played sports in shorts. changed cloths in the locker room. Only had one persons say anything about my shaved legs. I've had more say something about my eyebrows. Just do it and the feel will drive you to continue.

Try wearing some neutral coloured tights before putting your stockings on. It hides the hairs and saves awkward questions but it isn't nearly as good as shaving.

Hi girls. I just wouldn't worry about being shaved. I shave everything and have for years. Two years ago I went for extensive tests at Mao Clinic and no one batted an eye about my shaved body. I do worry sometimes about being brought in with my painted toes but I am still going to keep them on.

BTW a female doctor once asked my wife why she was shaved "down there." My wife said it felt good and it prevented infections. The doc said that maybe she would try it. So there!!!

Vera,

I actually had painted toenails once when I went to the Dr and forgot. I told him my wife did it for fun and he just smiled.
