I wear a 38/40 waist and my daughters size 18 jeans fit ok.the waist is not that tight but i can sit down comfortably without the waist digging in. The butt is a little loose so i would imagine if you want to show of your assets 16 would be a better size but might be a little tight when sitting. Just remeber that sizing like everything else in womens clothing it seems tends to vary.

I am 6'4", 232lbs and wear a 40 mens waist. I am a perfect womens size 20 tall in any brand, if I drop under 230, I am an 18 tall. I would say you are probably an 18.

It really depends on the jeans. Sometimes I wear a ten, other it may take a 12. You really need to try them on.

You will need to measure your hips, not your waist for low rise jeans. Bear in mind the fit can change from manufacturer to manufacturer but these are considered the base sizes.

40" = size 10
41 1/2 = size 12
43 = size 14
44 1/2 = size 16
46 1/2 = size 18

Since you are 32 inseam a regular length is all you need.
if you are 29 to 30" inseam you need petite sizes
At 34 inseam you would go for a tall size.

My advice.... try them on before you buy them. As much as men's jeans vary in size, women's do even more. I wear a 38 in men's (somewhat loosely), and have found 14's, 16's and 18's that fit me in women's jeans. It varies greatly from brand to brand and style to style.

Kim thanks for that chart!!
I was buying 12's and they are a TAD loose, but an 11 is perfect for me....

The last pair of 12's I got last week fit pretty good but a tAD loose in the butt, but after washing them in warm water they seem to fit now....(Levi)

Good chart, and gals watch the legs - I wear a 34" inseam on pre-shrunk but on shrink to fit I buy a 36" inseam.....

Hi michelle , i just bought two pairs of jeans from the Gap. I got a pair of the "Audrey Hepurn Skinny Black pants" and a pair of long and lean jeans. Now I usually wear a 14 or 16 in jeans and since i wanted them to feel "snug" I went with the 14's. I didn't try them on as I figured they would be on the tight side. When I got home and put them on BOTH were quite big on me. Now i know I have not lost any weight<believe me, I know> so it must be that there 14 is really like a 16/18. I say this, because judgeing from your measuments I would say you are about an 18, But who knows.

Hi all.....I wear a size 34 in mens with 30 inseam. I bought several pairs of jordach low rise stretch jeans in petite size 13-14 and they fit better than any mens jeans i've ever bought. They have spandex built in and they feel so nice and soft and comfortable...better than any mens jeans I eve worn.

Christine, I wear a 33-30 in men's pants and wear a size 8 womens Drew fit from The Limited. That is their lowest rise.

I like the way Riders stretch jeans fit me. I wear a 31-34 in men's and a size 8 long in Riders. My regular fit Wranglers jeans always seem baggy, but the Riders are very comfortable and more or less snug. I tried a size 8 Walmart brand jeans, but they have a fuller cut in the hips then the Riders and not as much stretch. They still fit, but they're baggier. I haven't tried low rise jeans yet, but I do have a pair of low rise capris that fit but don't do anything for my shape.

Gap sizes I swear run big. I took a pair of size 8 boyfriend jeans into the fitting room and they were way too big. (I'm a 29/30)

The size 6 fit really comfortably although I could probably squeezed into the 4. I swear gap runs a full size bigger.

I buy my embroidered jeans from Roamans. A lot of times, the thighs of women's jeans are cut much bigger than men's. With Roamans, they are not that big. If you are buying stretch jeans, you should be buying a size down from normal. I am a size 40/30 men's jeans and wear a size 20 tall women's jeans. I wear hip pads w/jeans and a corset every time I dress.

Michelle,

Go to Zafu.com, answer the questions and you will find out what size you should wear. They will also recommend some jeans for you and tell you where to buy them. It is a fabulous site!

I used it and just bought a new pair of 'Not Your Daughters Tummy Tuck Jeans," and they fit me like a glove! I have been trying to find some like that for some time. My other jeans fit fairly well, thanks to the lady who alters them for me, but not like these. I  them!!!

Yes I do.....two pieces of advice... First - try them on in the store!! No one cares!! And Secondly!!! Why??? Why are you buying fem jeans!! Do yourself and everyone else a favor and go buy a new skirt or a pretty dress!!! Feminine and jeans shouldn't be used in the same sentenance!! Hehe

At least get some non-denim capris or a pair of gauchos!! My god girl!! Think before you act!!! Were talking rough blue fabric invinted for a bunch of guys searching for gold in California almost a century and a half ago!! Not a pretty feminine picture if you as me!!

:D

Hi Michelle,

I have recently bought Levis Signature jeans.

They are low rise, boot cut and I just love them.

I wear size 38 men's and the 16 fit very well. They also have a bit of stretch to them.

I could suggest, regardless of what jeans you look to purchase, you check to see what the return policy is. If you can return them, buy them and try them at home, that way if it doesn't fit, you bring them back.

Of course you wouldn't want to get into the habit of returning things constantly at the same store(Some stores do find that a bit of a pain). But from time to time should be fine.

Happy Shopping!

Ok, so I went there and answered the questions... never having worn or tried on fem jeans before I wasn't sure how to answer the "how do your jeans normally fit" questions.
So, I answered as best as I could. I felt my answers were all over the board.
Then, after the last fitting question, you get a screen that churns a bit and says... please wait while we search for the jeans that fit you best.

I held my breath, crossed my fingers and waited, fully expecting the machine to come back and say (in it's best Austin Powers voice) "You're a man, baby!" Then kick me off the site.

But... it did not.
*whew*

It did recommend a $195 pair of jeans though.
Yikes!

I think I'm just going to have to shop around.
Thanks for all the advice.

BTW... anyone know where I can get a great snug pair of low-rise jeans? And from what I've read here, I'm guessing a 34X32 would translate into a 8 or 10 regular.

Is this right?

Women's jeans sizes seem to vary so much (men's do too but not as much, I think) that the best way is to try them on. However, it does sound as though an 18 or maybe a twenty would fit pretty well. I have similar measurements, and I wear an 18 or 20 depending on the brand and style.

I beleive you may be a 14. Wallmart or Kohls has a great selection of boot cut, Low rise fashion jeans. I always try them on before I buy. Never a problem at either store.

Hi LittleBlackDress,
If you want to go mail order, I would suggest Newport News. Their jeans can be found here: http://www.newport-news.com/shop/thumbnail.aspx?index=0&gp_coll_id=9&gp_cat_id=1649&nav_cat_id=452&category_id=3168&viewall=1 I would suggest their "slim fit" ones. BTW, $195 is way too much for a pair jeans.

Arggggggg.....go to a store and try them on.....if you must.....but come on!!! Jeans!!! Go do yourself and all of us a favor and buy a nice skirt, or at the least a pair of gauchos or capris....Jeans and feminine shouldn't be used in the same sentence!!!

and found 18s mostly loose fit. 16 tight fit. 20 too big. But Karren is right on about trying them on. Just because they fit does not mean they will look good on you. It was the last thing I got because I did not want jeans AAAARG! and also because I knew I would have to try them in the store. But I have found out that not being as pretty as Karren it is a good compromise to wear jeans in guy mode. I quickly learned no one cares. I wanted my jeans super tight but not hurtful. I must have tried them on in 12 stores in guy mode. No one was anything but very nice and accomodating! And it is fun! I got myself a pair of super stretch jeans size 14 for 5 dollars my SO wants to steal!

If you ar uncomfortable trying on women's clothing in the store, shop at a store that sellls both men's and women's clothing, like Kohl's, Old Navy, Ross or even WallMart. When you walk into the fitting room with jeans no one knows or really cares if that are men's or women's. The first time I tried on women's clothing in the store was whne I was looking for shorts. Picked up several that I liked, walked around the store until I came to the men's fitting room, walked in and tried them on. I have found that it is really no big deal, but that first time I thnik that I held my breath the entire time. Just act "cool" like you do this all the time and no one will notice.

Why buy the gal's version of men's jeans? I wear the brand names like Bongo, Dollhouse, Bubblegum, Mudd and Delias. I even found 1 named Too Hot that has a back zipper.

I wear a 36X32 in male jeans. I just bought a size 14 and 12 in Levi mid rise, straight leg at Walmart. The 14 is very comfortable. The 12 is a very snug fit but wearable and I actually prefer it.
Like others have said, it all depends on the band . Each brand has its own fit. The lower the "rise" the smaller size is OK for your. Remember, the low rise is a hip measurement not a waist measurement.

YES! Girls jeans are soooo awesome! I have recently found THE PERFECT FITTING jeans from American Eagle Outfitters! You have to just try them on to believe it!
I've already bought the at least two to three pair in EVERY style! The AE Artist flare is slim through the thigh (really girly) and flared sightly at the bottom. I even wear them to work and most coworkers have looked at them and you can see them wondering, but no one says anything.

My favorite pairs however, are the Straight 77 and Skinny 77 jeans. They have a SUPER low rise and are snug through the hip, thigh and calves. I have to admit, the rugged stretch denim feels fantastic! And they still feel and look the same even after several washes. Has anyone else bought from AE? I was there yesterday and asked the sales associate if she sees guys buying girls' jeans, and she said "Yeah, it's like so common. It's no big deal." When I told her I wore what was comfortable and that I loved the feel of the AE girls jeans, she said, "Cool, I like your style! Go with what you like and feels comfortable for you!"
I love the feeling of women's jeans. I'm NEVER going to buy another pair of men's jeans again!

I've purchased a number of low-rise or ultra low-rise jeans online. My hips are 37.5 inches and usually a size six fits perfectly. On occasion, however, they are a bit snug. Then there is the issue of stretch vs. non-stretch. The pattern seems to be that the stretch jeans fit better and the non-stretch are a bit snug, but after wearing them a bit, they all seem to quickly match your body and fit really well. The size charts that come with most catelogs or on-line are generally correct in my experience for this particular item of clothing!

Have fun!!!

Mens 38/40 should according to what I know about womens jeans should equate to an 18/20 in womens sizes to be sure go to the store and ask to try on a pair in the style you are looking for. Never hessitate to ask to use a fitting room in a ladies clothing store. i don't and I usually always got in a fitting room. :hugs:

I have a 31" waist. That translates into a US size 6 or 8 womens jean depending upon the brand. I always take them to the mens fitting room and try them on before buying. As was already suggested. Go try them on.

Its the only way.
