Thanks for the link, Scottie. You've given me an idea. I've changed the thread (and "stuck" it) so that others can post info about any books, movies, etc. relating to FtMs that we can refer to.

Here's a link to an article in today's Times regarding Ray, a very cool guy who is our support group leader at the (LGBT) Center. As you can see from his picture, he certainly doesn't look like he was born female. He told us when he walked into the Center 8 years ago and asked to speak with someone like him (a female-to-male transgendered individual), they told him they didn't have anyone he could speak to (and this in a large, diverse city, less than a decade ago). I'm glad he was able to get the help he needed and is now there to help us.

Both Sides Now: One Man's Journey Through Womanhood by Dhillon Khosla is good.
He's a cool bloke.

^ Thats a link to the amazon.com thing. You can also get it from amazon.co.uk:

He's got a website and stuff too and a cd out which is good. (You've probably all encountered him before anyway but, just incase some hadn't!)

Thanks, Pocoyo . . . I just remembered two more . . . both available from Amazon.com (links below):

1. Just Add Hormones by Matt Kailey

http://www.amazon.com/Just-Add-Hormones-Transsexual-Experience/dp/0807079596/sr=8-1/qid=1163190606/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-2791499-0532754?ie=UTF8&s=books

2. Becoming a Visible Man by Jamison Green

http://www.amazon.com/Becoming-Visible-Man-Jamison-Green/dp/082651457X/sr=1-1/qid=1163190786/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-2791499-0532754?ie=UTF8&s=books

I've read both and highly recommend them (Morgan, I don't know if they're available in Dutch). I have a list of others, but I haven't read them yet, so I can't recommend them just yet.

Let me just said that: Jamison. Green. Rocks.

His book is definitely recommended reading regardless of whether you identify as FTM or MTF. (Although obviously some sections will be mostly of interest to FTMs.)

Good list, Kieron.

I'd add Thomas Laqueur's Making Sex: Body and Gender from the Greeks to Freud, most of Butler's oeuvre (even if she is difficult to read), and Patrick Califia for those who are curious about how TG's have sex. (I'll admit to having needed an imagination booster.)

don't forget AS Nature Made Him: The Boy That Was Raised as a Girl (http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?z=y&EAN=9780061120565&itm=1). I'm currently reading this one and it's really good. A great example that it's not how you're raised, it's whats inside that makes us men or women. I highly recommend this one to everyone, even GG/GM.

Just finished reading S. Bear Bergman's (http://www.sbearbergman.com/) excellent, "Butch is a Noun." (http://www.sbearbergman.com/writing/BiaN.php) While, as the name implies, the focus is more butches than FTMs, Bergman identifies hirself as trans (although for the time being, ze has chosen to remain female-bodied) and it does a good job of talking about one segment of the FTM community (i.e. butches who decide to transition).

But more broadly, Bergman writes eloquently about what it's like to be a female-bodied man. (Although, of course, you guys are in a better position to say how well ze hits the mark.) Likewise, ze writes insightfully about masculinity -- I found myself nodding, saying "yeah, that's right."

"boys don't cry" the movie about brandon teena, that's a good one, although more for entertainment than enrichment, but there are some educational parts parts
