JenniferMint started a string discussing the possible relationship of Asperger's with being transgendered. One of the replies (sorry I don't remember the person's name but that may become clearer shortly) cited an article relating Asperger's and transgenderism and mentioned in passing that Asperger's may affect the development/function of "mirror neurons". This was interesting to me because one of the (many) hypotheses I maintain simultaneously about development of t is that we are predisposed to emulate the behavior of one or the other gender and when that happens to coincide with biological sex we're "normal" and when it is with the other sex we are transgendered.

Anyhow - I know this is a ramble, but bear with me, as you usually do (thank you!) - comparing my own symptoms with Asperger's led to a conclusion that I am really more likely to be what is referred to as high functioning autistic (HFA) than Asperger's, and this in turn led to a site online where one can measure the putative autistic tendencies one has.

http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/9.12/aqtest.html

As a matter of curiosity, I'd be interested in others here taking the test and reporting their results together with whether they regard themselves as crossdressers or transgendered, using the latter term to refer to those of us who either are or think we would like to live fulltime as a member of the gender considered normal for members of the "opposite" biological sex.

To start things off, my score was 38 and as suggested, I'm tg. Be honest taking the test, since it's one of those tests that is pretty transparent and you can make the results say anything you want it to say.

Strange, I would have expected a HIGH score if a higher score indicates that, but such it is.

7 out of 14 or so is a remarkable number considering that the normal incidence is on the order of a few per thousand. I wouldn't have expected it to be that high. Anyhow, I suspect that's there's more than one "cause" for such a diverse phenomenon, so it's also permitted to be normal, well, almost normal! :)

I'm definitely transgendered in some way, but I'm not sure about going full-time female despite being castrated and on HRT.

Fascinating subject...

My public implication in autism/asperger advocacy is the primary reason why I can't make a coming out and have to be rather discrete about my CD side...

I have not seen any studies on the subject in my experience. I know some Asperger and autistic people are x-dressers and/or have some gender identity problems.

I did take the AQ test a while ago and I came close to the score implying a possible diagnostic but not fully.

I have a child (adult now) who has a form of autism called "High functionning autism", expression that I don't like but which is commonly used in articles and books.

I'd be currious to know if there are here other CDs who are parents of a child on the autistic spectrum?

I got a 37. Not surprising, as I've often been compared to autistic people. I used to identify as a crossdresser, but over time, I realized that I'm much more transgendered than I originally thought. I was just afraid to admit it. I hope to be able to afford hormones soon. I'm actually quite tempted to steal my mom's Premarin, but I know how bad an idea that would be on so many levels.

38 here, as well.

I was a 'loner' most of my childhood - fantasies, writing my own stories, lost in music - and, as an adult, still find it hard to 'fit in' with lightweight social situations. Never a 'joiner' (so much for a career as a good Communist). My mate is similiar, if not more so (to her wage-earning ability, very good with numbers). Thank heavens, my daughters seem to possess deep social skills lacking in their parents. Although I used to think I disliked children, once I became a (primary, stay-at-home) parent, I discovered within myself a wealth of good social ability around kids (mediating conflicts, digging for bugs, fantasy play with Playmobile figures and such).

So what's it mean - I was born to wear dangly earrings?

You're right - the test is very transparent, especially since i have first hand knowledge of Asperger's presentations - my former Stepson was diagnosed Asperger's Syndrome in 1997.

Day Tripper. I can empathise with you in many ways. I am not a Communist although I take the Workers side in any employment situation and see Management as the "other side". I also oppose the War in Iraq and Afghanistan.

On the other aspects I do "join" some Organisations, but always on MY terms and do not consider myself bound by ALL the Dogmas , Doctrines, Manifesto Pledges, etc and have resigned when I found that my personal principles were at variance with those of the organisation in question. I don't toe a "Party Line".

Like you I was a loner as a kid, hated any form of "Team" activity and still do, I like my own company , have few but very deep friends. I was married but didn't have any kids, we didn't want any. Now divorced I am happy on my own and as a very individualist type of person, I do my own thing and am happy so to do. I have a detached attitude to many things which would wind up many ordinary people but if something takes my interest or arouses my feelings I can become very involved or get wound up about it even if it is an issue which does not personally affect my own life.

Was/am I in some way Autistic or do I have Asperger's ? I do not know. However one point I would make is that I am not one to do something because that is what everyone else does, I don't take the slightest interest in fashions or fads. I must be a Marketing and Advertising person's nightmare as the stimuli which work on most ordinary folk are simply not wired up on me.

I got 22.
I dunno what I am lol. Like Lex I think I'm probably cd, tg and rather possibly ts.

I reckon it's probably likely that we would have some symptoms like aspergers/autism, but for different reasons. Eg social anxiety etc.
