So being new to a lot of this I have a question.

I take a size 11 - 11.5 in men's.
What would the equivalent size for women's be and where would I find shoes that fit a bigfoot like me?

I just recently replied to a similar question.. Unless your feet are wide, 2 sizes up from your male size should do well!

Hi Kerrianna,
I can understand your problem. I assume you are talking about US sizes so I have to convert as am in the UK.
The conversion is 2. So if you are US 11 so you are UK 9, what would be around the same like me. I fit into an UK 8, so US 10, quite easy. And it gets better with some training. Could be uncomfortable at the start but your foot gets used to it.
If you buy high heels than add a size to it to make it really comfy. Be carefull with boots as they are not very wide made. If that would be your first shoes try to get leather or soft synthetic as they addapt better to your foot.
You can get this sizes at
www.alternative-footwear.co.uk or
www.lisasshoes.com
But am sure there are lots of other shops on the net who sell this sizes just look around.

Hope that helps a bit
Becky

The two sizes rule is pretty much the standard, but remember it's just like men's shoes not all are the same.

To expand on the wide part it's not a bad idea to get a wide width. Especially if you find a pair in a 12 for instance and they're a bit loose go to an 11.5 wide width and they should fit nicely. That's my personal experience.

You know what they say about a girl with big feet? She wears big shoes!
But seriously, I wear a size 11 in men's and find that a size 12 W fits me in women's sizes. I find a lot of shoes at Payless (although not all of them carry a size 12) and Avenue, a women's clothing store that specializes in large sizes (Plus Size).

It is best to try on the shoes first. I wear a size 8.5 mens show and found that a size 10.5 womens shoe was way too big. So I kept trying on smaller sizes. It turns out that a size 9.5 womens shoe fits me perfect. Oh yes, when you try on womens shoes (heels) wear a pair of hoses. Fit will be different with and with out hose.

I'm a UK women's size 8 which I think is a US size 10 or 42 in Euro size. Which is good because it's stocked by most women's shoe shops.

As most have said, try size 13-13.5 for starts, some styles/brands will be too small, some will be too large, shopping in person is best, but it seems that those sizes are hard to find in "real" stores, so on-line may be your best bet.

See http://community-2.webtv.net/CAW_1976/Largesizewomensshoe/ for a start.

I've found that my male and female shoe size runs about the same. Anywhere from a 9-10. Payless has the larger sizes. Go and try them on and find out for yourself.

Start with 1 1/2 to 2 sizes larger than mens. (Types of shoes and makes are different.) Womans feet are not as wide so you need to get a wider shoe in the "same size". If you can not get a wide one, then the next size up. When they get to large sizes like womans 14 you can not usually find them in 1/2 sizes ie 14 1/2. Some stores say they make them for men but I do not know if they take in consideration the extra width of a mans foot.

So, I wear size 12 in mens it was sugested (on the site) to get 3 sizes up in womans because of the width size 15. It was boots, I had a bit of room in the front, not sure about the width. So 14 might have worked 14 1/2 for sure but they did not have 1/2's. This was for a costume I worn for a couple of hours, would not want to wear it longer.

As suggested you need to get them sized.

If you wear them all day be sure to get the correct size and a proper arch support insert, have it when you get it sized. There is nothing worse than sore feet!

To get your feet and calves used to high heals buy a mans boot with a high heal or put in a lift in the heal, it will help but the narrow heal shoes you will have to get used to by wearing them, unless you are an ice skater.

I think your size will be about a 12 to a 13. You will get a feel for the brands of the shoes after a little while. Some shoes like a Nine West or a J. Renee make beautiful shoes but a 12 will seem like a 9. Others like RSVP or Annie make nice shoes and the 12.5 should fit you. Zappo's has many shoes and it is a no hassle return. And there are many other stops on the internet. But you can find them cheaper elsewhere.

There are a couple of things you can do that worked nicely for me, as until recently I did not think I would find any shoes my size.

The first one is to visit the different shoe stores in your area. You will get a feel for what is out there. Look into small owner operated stores. I found a little store where I put the word out and a month later the lady called me because she received a few large shoes. One pair turned out to fit me very nicely.

The other is if you are in a city with several Payless stores visit all the ones there. I have four different shoes from them and I found each one at a different store! If you have a Shoe Dept. store in your town, they carry Annie and usually will have a couple pairs in 12 and 13.

And do not be afraid of trying them. Every single salesperson I have dealt with has been very nice.

Hope this helps

11.5 12's here so I ware a size 13ww in women's. The one thing is the sizes vary from brand to brand. I buy "Ros Homerson" and they have fit me the best. I feel I get a more truer size in their line. They are a bit pricy but I'm going to check out "Roaman's" catalog they have larger women's shoes at a reasonable price.

I must echo the Payless comments. I've found many pairs of shoes there and not always the same size works. I wear an 11 mens and am quite comfortable in a woman's 12W up to a 3.5 inch heel. For a 4 inch heel a 13W can even be tight. The key is to try them on. Don't worry about the staff...they see girls like us every day. I always am in drab when I shop for shoes and I've never been hassled.

I'm 8.5 male and 9 female. But last week found 2 pair that were 8.5 in heels at Payless. So if you can go try them on first.

I have worn 8.5 mens shoes for a very long time. I had been told that a woman's shoe was 2 sizes larger than an mans to fit right. So I tried both 10.5 and 11. Bought an awful lot of shoes trying to get some that were comfortable to walk in. Finally I go smart! Went to a local Nordstrom's, which has the some of the best shoe sales people in the whole country, and asked a man in the ladies department to measure me for women's shoes. He did, after giving a "look," and told that I should be wearing size 10. He added that if I was going to wear pointed toe shoes I should wear size 10.5 or even 11. Got rid of most of my larger shoes, and bought a bunch of size 10. I totally LOVE them!!  I am wearing a pair of Trotters "Beth" pumps as I write this. They are a very comfortable shoe to wear shopping, etc. The ones I have on are "Gold Wash," and I also have them in Black and Brown Suede. Medium Heel, 1 3/4, but that is fine with me. I don't do well with really high heels. Especially since I shop dressed enfemme, but not passing. In other words, I am a guy in ladies clothes and shoes. That is who I am, more girl than man!

Myself I wear an 11 W male shoe and I havr found that I need a 13 W in woman shoes. I have found some 13's at Payless and I have gotten a size 12 in a womans sandal. I know around here large size shoes are hard to find. There is a TG shop near me and they carry up to size 16. And not to sound bad but also I have been told that if you live in area with a larger number of black woman, Payless carries more of the large sizes in there store there.

this is confusing yet I do like hearing all the good advice.

I am a 9.5 sometimes and 10 at other times depending on guy shoes. I am a narrow width. I am trying to look for heels.

Payless stores are a good source, but you should also check out
http://www.payless.com/
They have a size chart you can print out and measure your foot.

Yikes, information overload. I HAD to bookmark that chart . . . I might even go buy some bowling shoes with it . . . Its winter now and I wear western boots (I look at it as I've been wearing high heels since junior high :heehee: ) . . . but come spring the boots are too freaking hot, at least here in Las Vegas. . . some bowling shoes would be cool . . . and the colors - -

I wear a 9 in men's and 10 in women's boots. In women's shoes, it varies. Some I can wear a 10 and others I need a 10.5.

I'm a size 9 mens and find a size 10 womens Ok, but a 9.5 is better- depends on brand and style.

I can attest to the black woman's Payless. There are four stores in black neighborhoods where I live, and that is usually where the large sizes are!
