On Thursday I received the mastectomy bra that I ordered a couple of weeks ago. This is propbably the best decision I have made in my 20 years of dressing. My forms don't slip and it has taken the worry away that they would fall right down my dress and on the floor. I am very relieved and wish I had done this years ago. (I even slept with it on to see what would happen. Woke up and they were, still right where I left them, just like a real woman. ;) )

Have anyone else been using these bras?

Good point, Marissa. I ordered it through one hanes place, through their catalog. (1-800-300-2600. Playtex 18 hor mastectomy bra, item #2987SJ) It was $18.99, plus shipping. The only bummer is that this one only comes in white. Now that I know how well they work I will be looking for other styles and colors.

I have been wearing 38C underwire bras for years, however, as I've been losing weight they have become looser, so I ordered 36C this time. It feels snug, but I think that's what I needed.

Hi Shannon, Hi MJ,

Mastectomy bras are popular with cds, according to a lingerie store in NYC.

It's called Frishmans and is so cd friendly it even has a second website just for cds (www.tgcdfrish.com and 800-540-6066). They also do alterations on bras to add a pocket for a breastform. Their mastectomy bras are a bit expensive though.

I went there once and tried on a camisole and a bathing suit. I bought the camisole. They were a bit understaffed but very nice. And a mastectomy bra is definitely on this girl's wish list:o

Shannon: a favor: how does the Playtex mastectomy bra you bought compare to regular (Playtex) bras? I always feared that mastectomy bras would be less comfortable. Thanks.

Actually, I got this one a bit smaller than usuall so the fact that it is a little snug is not a fair way for me to judge it against my others. However, I would say that because it doesn't have the underwire it doesn't have that "digging in" feeling of my other bras.

I hope that helped.

There are many, many, styles of mastectomy bras. Go to any mastectomy web site or just Google "mastectomy bra". If you buy the right size and style, they should not be any less comfortable than a regular bra.

Personally,I have never felt the need to use a mastectomy bra with my forms, but if you do want to wear one, then don't be worried that they will not be comfortable or pretty enough.

Lovies,
Steph

I came across a skin-tone mastectomy bra at The Sally Anne, two bucks! and it is great. I use some stockings filled with popcorn (of course un-popped!!) and they look great, stay cool and are great on movie night!

Yes the bras with the pockets work well, thats what I use but just not a lot of style to pick from.

I have three of them I purchased from a lingerie shop I frequent. While being quite functional, and sturdy ,(read industrial strength cotton) they only come in white and black. Made by Anita Care. The owner of the shop I go to is a fully certified mastecomy specialist for fitting.

Odd...I've yet to have a breast form fall out of any of my regular bras.....

I lost 30 pounds in the last 2 months. I went from 184 lbs to 154 lbs. My bra just got too big. But I still think that the pockets give me some peace of mind.
