Usually real.
Saturday, nine were real and 1 was fake because I accidently ripped the real one off at the gym the previous Monday.
One of the gurls really liked how they looked and had to check to see if they were real or not.
They are clipped shorter now, for my wife's sake, but I try to grow them longer for special occasions.

I started out with fake acrylic nails, but over time, my real nails have grown out to the point that now they are all real with a acrylic coating on them.

I'm not into fake.
Then again, my nails look really nothing special.
I'm not sure CDs want to draw a lot attention to their hands in the first place, though.
Time for the Top Coat.

I have mine for over a year now. I too was worried if they would be noticed, but 98% of the time, no one notices. Those that have have been women and each and every one had a postive comment about them. The last comment I got was from a young GG who said "OMG, your nails are so cool. I wish my BF had good looking nails like yours". Got a good chuckle out that one and at that time they were about 1/2" past my tips too.

I have my nails done every 2 or 3 weeks, acryliced. I keep 2 or 3 really shiny coats of clear polish on them. I am not bothered by chipping or breaking and I am fairly active. Acrylic really works for me. I would suggest that you girls that haven't tried it to consider. My nails are as hard as, er, nails!

Long or short, mine are real all the way Erika. Don't like the fake ones. Never did, never will. BTW, I'm a "natural" blonde also. Ericka Kay

I have tried to grow my own and 1 of 2 things happen. 1, I brake them off at work (last time I broke 4 in one day and they were almost a 1/2 long) or 2, my wife well make me cut them. I like to have real nails, but if I don't happen to have them at the time I will pull on the fake ones.

Blessed with fast-growing, "hard as nails" fingernails, no need for "falsies" (at least not there!). To cut or not to cut, that is the dilemma. Love 'em polished en femme, yet self-conscious when in male mode. In conjunction with long hair (to my shoulders now, never gonna cut it again), might I be outing myself imprudently? Any suggestions on justifications for growing 'em long?

I went the acrylic route. Holds polish much better and they are very strong. Going to try a full set of gels in January. :2c:
Mine are real. I get them manicured about every two weeks. I consistently get compliments on them from gg's both in drab and enfemme.

They are about 1/2" long and I keep them polished with color at all times. The main comments I get in drab mode are "nice nails" and "are they real?",. I've only had one negative comment from a guy and I handled that rather well.

Tried fake. What can I say ... they were fake :heehee:
So it's natural, long enough to be nice, short enough to be practical.

If I did not I would break them working on the house, so I keep them short.

I grow mine a little longer than I used to (which was nil), but when I go out I use one step nails (they're press-on with no gluing involved). Unfortunately they only come in french. I do polish them once in a while after I have worn them several times (once out and a couple times at home). My toenails are real, though. And professionally pedicured.

My nails are like JoAnn's. Real with acrylic covering. I gat a manicure, and pedicure, every two weeks. And yes, my nail are painted, a Pale Pink. They are also slightly longer than most men's, and rounded in typical feminine fashion. I do get compliments on my nails from both men and women. Oops, just noticed that my left index fingernail is chipped! Can't go off on my trip to London on Thursday with a chipped nail, can I?

I would love to have medium lengthed natural nails that I could get away with even when not dressed. It would also be a good sign that the soy protein and vitamins are working as with nail growth also comes hopeful hair growth as I am regrowing my hair hopefully long.

Long or short my real nails just don't look as good as the fake. Long nails do make "man hands" look a little more graceful and in fem proportion. So the longer the better. I go for convience.

Real ones are to much hassle to keep looking good with the job I have. So it's fake all the way for me.:2c:

I've used the KISS stick-ons and the REVLON glue-ons with good results, if I'm careful. I love the way my hands look with long, red nails!

I tried Broadway real-life glue on nails and found out it takes about 1/2 hour to remove them with acetone. They did look and fit well for large nails and look natural without any polish. I was able to do my nails 3 times with the set of 40 nails. I just bought a set of 48 gel nail tips in an effort to cut down on removal time. I tried one nail on my little finger today as a test. First you glue the tip on then use one of the liquids to smooth the transition from your nail to the tip and then you coat the entire surface in gel. The result even after the first step was incredible. The look was 100% natural. Then to remove it, I clipped it short and other than the thickness it looked like my natural nail...so in a pinch you can just clip them to get back to guy mode. With acetone and rubbing with a cloth the nail tip came off quickly. The tips are a little more expensive and I'm not sure if they will be wide enough for my nails but I think this is the solution I was looking for.

Real, they grow like mad and don't often break. Lucky me. I keep them fairly long but sometimes have to trim them for practical reasons.

I have had "fake" nails for almost 3 years now. I have done the "tips plus overlay" for special occasions, but mainkly I have just had an overlay done on my natural nails.
I have had gels for a year and a half, then fiberglass for a year and now I have switched temporarily to acrylics. It is really enjoyable to go for a fill and polish every two weeks, and sit down and get some girl time in the salon :)
Here is an old thread I did showing a step-by-step photos of a set of permanent French gels being done on me :)

Given how many guitarists we seem to have amongst us I'd be amazed if more than a few have more than the very shortest of nails, especially on their fretting hand:happy:
Yes' I have seen Dolly Parton play guitar with those nails, just don't see how is all !

Mine are real as well. The measure about a 1/2" from the cuticle. I fund the Sally Hansen "Nailgrowth miracle" actually works pretty well. They are growing quite fast and strong. So I can trim them back if needed and get them back quickly.

Long nails are impractical for me.
I usually resort to wearing gloves when I can.
Would I like to grow my nails long?
Yes, I would.

I try very hard to keep mine fairly long and shaped. Unfortunately just last week I broke 4 of them on my left hand working on a plumbing leak. Makes me sooooooo mad when that happens. The attached pic is about the length that I try to keep them.

I got a full set a my nail salon last year and love them. I have them cut back to about 1/8" past my tips and then let them grow back out to about 1/2". With the acrylic coating, I no longer worry about my nails breaking, cracking, peeling, or chipping. No more ridges either.
