Hi, I appreciate a sister giving me the Great Britain source of spiro sans prescription. I ordered 100 mg dose as I want to be careful and conservative and observe how I am doing. I think it would be sensible to have blood chemistry done-I get a panel done to check cholesterol, etc and I am due for a recheck--what function should I be focused on--liver I guess is a biggy-what is it that reveals its 'health'? Is there a better time of the day to take Spiro? with food? I read of mouth dryness,etc-what are some of the other side effects? Will I have to start dieting to keep from gaining weight--I am assuming that reduced testosterone will lead to weight gain? I want to do this regimen to improve my prostate health-at 60 it is being pesky-as well as expressing my transgendered spirit. would love to get some advice! hugs, helenr in CO.

i totalllllly agree with Mr Andrew on this one.
have you tried to speak to a doctor about this first?
or sought his advice?
i mean, if they are going to be monitoring you anyway, is it such a problem to fill them in on the details ..
afterall, when the tests come back and show irregularities, you might find yourself in a sticky situation.
believe me .. these things are dangerous.
i had/have liver damage from my regime of meds .. and if it wasnt for the constant checking .. id probably be in a really bad place right now.

Helen,
You wont find many people who will support self medicating. There are too many dangers involved that can even lead to death so do yourself a favour and get on a regimen set by the doctors, not by andcdotal heresay and self evaluation.
Best of luck.

i agree with everybody here . tell your doctor what you want to do and why i know of someone in there 80ies who transition with no problems so be honest ... please remember a set dose for one person may be deadly for another i have a tg friend who is on 1.25 mg premrin and it works fine for her but to get my levels right i am on 5 mg and i am fine.. but if she was at this level it could kill her ... so it is best to talk to your doc better safe than sorry

Have you read the information on spiro that is available from the on-line drug companys? It doesn't tell you about dosage, but it does tell you about the possible side effects and risks involved with taking it. I will suggest that you drink a lot of water every day, it was developed as a potassium spareing diuretic for people with heart problems and the testosterone lowering effect it has is actually concidered as a "side effect" to the normal use of the drug. I will say that it has less possible side effects than estrogen supplements.

Yup with spiro you have to watch your potassium levels and bananas are full of it... too much potassium and your kidneys are gonna like it...
