Yesterday I spoke/presented on trans issues to a group of doctors and medical students at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. (It's the fifth year in a row I've been invited to do so, and it's a wonderful chance to share information and experiences.) I can't tell you how refreshing it is to know that at least some of our future physicians will have met and spoken face-to-face with a transperson who is able to respond to their questions and address their concerns about dealing with transgender patients. That bodes well for our society, I believe. I'm so grateful for opportunities to do this kind of work--it's rewarding, fulfilling, and I believe it makes a difference. I just thought some of you might find this little piece of news to be as inspiring as I do.

You thought right. Thanks for not passing up those opportunities.
We all know getting a good therapist or Dr. is a challenge. Not that its their fault, there aren't enough of us to assure that each of them encounters us as a patient so that they know something meaningful about us. Your efforts at closing the gap are inspiring!

Thanks to all of you for your kind words. I'm humbled by them, truly, and only wanted to share the information with you so you'll know that someone is making an attempt to do something positive for our community. I believe that making inroads with the medical community is a significant initiative, and I'll continue to do it as long as I have an audience. Your support is deeply appreciated, so thanks again to all of you for taking time to share your thoughts.
Warmly,
Vanessa
