Hi,
I've decided, well my SO commented, that if you really want to look sexy your going to have to try and lose that tire around your stomach that's fast turning into a beer gut.
:(
Apart from being a little hurt, I could see here point. Well just wondering what diets you girls have tried with success?
I'm a total choc & crisps junkie...Not to mention coke a cola (full strength) and of course beer.
I have to be strong willed I know, but could use any suggestions you've got.
Currently I'm 6'2" (188cm) and about 187lb (85kg) probably more like 89kg though ...lol
A few years ago I'd never been able to get over 69kg and could fit into a size 10 -12 AU dress.
Now I'm squeeeeeezing into a 14 but can't do much else, a 16 fits much better these days. But I want to get back into a 12. Yes wishful thinking :)
Apart from my gut the rest of me hasn't really stacked on the weight. Though my legs look a lot better these days.
hugs

This worked for me......ice hockey twice a week....20 minutes on the universal gym 3-4 times a week.....no snacks after dinner....walk the dog a couple times a week....portion control....lateral thigh trainer a couple times a week....stair stepper, treadmill....also use 5 pound free weights when I walk on the treadmill, and lateral thigh trainer.....
lost 50 pounds in 9 months!!

You're 6' 2" and 187lbs ?!! I wouldn't think you'd be in need of dieting girl!! I'm 6' and nearly 220 lbs - I need to diet!! :D

Not to be discouraging but Diets don't work. Only a combination of exercise and life style change takes weight off and keeps it off. Trying to lose wieght and effect the abdominal area is at best ineffectual. Only a series of specific exercises will reduce this area. I am slim but have extra pounds in that area as well and the amount of work it takes to keep it looking good is unreal. I use exercises that develop the abs. Good luck Kahlan:2c:

Karren has the right idea....and those are my goals. 20lbs of the way there. I've used nutrisystem supplemented with fresh fruit and vegetables, and lots of exercise. Working on the smaller portions for meals with controlled snacks twice a day. It's working!!!

I would recomend Weight Watchers plus regular exersize. I have been on it since last March. I have lost a total of :eek:82 Pounds:eek: and have gone from a size 22-24 to a 12-14. As Kahlan51 said it really is more than a diet, as diets are just short term soultions Weight Watchers really is a life style change.

From what I've noticed, Weight Watchers is good if food plays a major role in your life.
If you're like me and food isn't really important, it may have resulted in a poor diet. I am also trying to lose weight, so I have started an exercise regime and started to improve my diet.

I was and still on the "Default Diet". My wife is on Weight Watchers, so by default, I am eating the same thing she does. I have lost about 25 pounds so far.

Exercises and less calories.
Savor one choc bar in 5 min instead gulping 5 bars in 1 min. Less calories, almost the same fun.
Diet Coke for lunch and dinner. Full strenght coke doesn't add to satiety but to the calories.
(In the USA soft drinks are usually sweetened with HFCS. Latest research indicates that fructose doesn't produce satiety but a high fructose load may induce fat synthesis.)
Though it might sound cruel, find a good alcohol free beer. If you are not going to get drunk, this lowers calories by half, you still can take advantage of the healthy ingredients, and you can even drink more. A 'regular' beer once in a while is ok.

Hi
I don't believe in the diet thing being the way to loose weight and then keep it off.
I think you want to get into a lifestyle change of healthy eating, and excluding that mountain of crap carbs you are ingesting, and couple it with some exercise you enjoy. This just then becomes your life, isn't a chore and you can keep it up (no continual cycle of weight yo yo's)....and still have some rubbish to eat too!!!

I am 6' and was almost up to 180 lbs 2 years ago. Now I am down to 150 lbs. I have a bit of a real waist now and I can fit into 10-12 skirts and 12-14 dresses. It makes a world of difference in finding clothing that fits.
What worked for me is to skip breakfast, I just have a cup of coffee. I don't get overly hungry until lunch. I have a light to normal lunch. Then for supper, whatever the family is having. I try to stay active, and I weigh myself each day. Now that I am at target weight, if I go up 2 lbs, I immediatly lighten up my intake, and get that extra weight off.
Take you time to get down to where you want to be. Cut out the snacks if you can. And get some exercise, but not with your arms.

I am 5'11", and 159lbs, I try real hard to stick to rabbit food, I went over 165lbs once, and my wife oversaw my diet and exercise until I was 150! I will not go through that again! I guess the moral is, you just need the right motivation, (like MY wife!).:heehee:

I eat a light breakfast, tv dinner lunch, and anything for dinner. Sometimes snack very lightly on candy or Ben & Jerry's. Look at my past threads on how I lost weight from road biking.
Losing weight from exercise is hard work. Did a 17.2 mile workout on Saturday lost .4 lbs. 24 miles on Sunday and lost nothing! I get pissed off when that happens!

MMMMMmmmmm...... BEER!!!!!!! lol...... :heehee: I'm 5-8.. I know I've got a little bit of a "tire" but a corset works wonders!!! Especially if you've got a little bit of "man boob" to work with! Not going to post my weight here (what girl would) but what would my ideal femme weight be at 5' 8? Curious... Running has always worked for me.. If I run for 30 mins 4 -5 times a week and do sit ups, I can drink as much beer as Homer Simpson!! lol!

losing weight is the second hardest thing that ive done ! I started in may and by changing eating habets ( what and how much ) started walking ,up to 3 miles a day before the first of 3 operations.even with 29 days in hospital (in 3 stays)at this point ive lost 50 lbs and am back to 2-3 miles a day . the 2 biggest changes were getting rid of the soda and changing to a more healthier diet . It can be done , you have to do it for yourself ! No one but you will stop you from doing it . set acheaveable goals small steps will start a pattern of sucess and reenforce your desires to lose
Good luck Kathleen:thumbsup:

I have been on a diet for years, Always watching what I eat and my weight each day. One trick that always works for me is to set a goal and buy something new when I reach the goal. Set the goal low and shop/reward often. Huggs

I'm weight conscious and try to eat sensibly. Eating small amounts throughout the day helps me. I also exercise regularly, but my weight loss has been very slow (I'm trying to lose 30 lbs.--already lost 30). It's worth it though.

i think some diets are really dangerous but i did learn one thing in school and that is about weight gain, calories going in =calories burnt then no change so you dont have to do both just one or the other change what you eat or excercise a little more but watch out you dont exercise too much. anyway hope i helped a little.

Lots of good advice here today. Diets are great but ineffective without an ecercise program to go with it. Basically, if you consume more calories than you burn, you will gain weight.

Well I always am having trouble with my weight so I am no guru on this stuff. Disclaimers, excuses and all that outta the way let me say I did drop thirty pounds last year on the Adkins Diet and by going to the gym almost daily. Prehaps I averaged 6 times a week going to the dym
Swimming laps really got me some results fast. Just dieting alone will not work at least for me, have to exersise too! Also I did all the cardo machines...like stairmaster, treamill, etc. When I got bored with one I would switch over.
Do not however do any weights!!! Ya want those arms and shoulder to shrink. I still do not have femmy arms and shoulders...but lord it is amazing how far they have shrunk from when I was a big hairy weight lifting guy! That was just two years ago.
Good luck!

I don't know how old you are, but as men age the abdominal muscles tend to weaken on almost all men. Karren's figure will last longer than most of us because she really works really hard at maintaining a tight abdomen. She also backs away from the table by reducing her food intake and eating the right foods. Perhaps if you PM her she can give you some guidance on what foods to avoid, but you already know what they are. Part of your problem is self discipline which I'm sure that you also know. 2007 is almost upon us which is the perfect time for you to start a program. I'm going to need to start dragging myself out of bed at 5:00 AM again to start walking and convert to jogging when I get into a little better shape. I jogged for ten years, but had to stop when my wife got sick and needed me.

I eat all kinds of food, even bad food like Ben & Jerry's, pecan pie (very high calorie), cheesecake, candies, and other junk food. All I do is enjoy a little of it at a time. And my junk food would rather spoil than me overeat it.
By the way, I saw this "Losing Weight" thread in a Biking Forum; it might be of interest to you all!

It is easy--there is a new plan that lets you lose weight while you sleep. You need a little more sleep--right? Sally's right! Sleep an extra half hour and skip breakfast.
Also consider eating vegetarian. And of course switch to diet cola--you get used to it in about a week. Skim milk, too.
OK here goes when i accepted my femme side i was 298 pounds. so in order to look more feminine i knew i had to lose a lot of weight so this is how i did it :-
( motto if you want to be half your size eat half your food intake )
1. get a note book and write down everything you eat or drink and the time
2. try drinking 8 to 12 glasses of water a day
3. try veggies for a snack
4. smaller portions and water with your meal " it will help fill you up "
5. brush your teeth right after your meal
6. Waite 20 minutes. has it takes that long before your stomach feels full
7. skip the deserts
8. try diet pop or soda's
9. put pictures of something on your fridge or cupboards that you want to get when you reach a small goal like 15 pound loss like heels or something
10. don't look at the big picture IE:- 50 pounds loss that is too big a step try for 10 or 15 . you will more likely to achieve that then repeat if you have to..
make sure you write down everything you eat including the amount it will help you understand your eating habits
my good friend rain has some gorgeous dresses i love her lime green dress and i have never been in a dress but when i get my last 20 pounds gone i will try and find one like it and post my first picture in a dress ever !!
to prove it here is me now and with my sister carol in my dress pants she is in one leg and i am in the other, hey did i just out my self

There has been a lot of good advice given here. Several people have touched upon the more important aspects of losing weight. Karen, for instance, mentioned "portion control". This is a biggie.
The whole thing comes down to one scientific principle. You have GOT to consume fewer calories than you burn. This is simple science and underlies ALL weight loss methods. If you eat more food than you need to live, you gain weight. If you consume the same number of calories that you burn, your weight will stay the same. If you consume fewer calories than you burn, YOU WILL LOSE WEIGHT. That's it. Simple. Every weight loss plan comes down to the same thing.
Now, my weight loss plan was simple. I just ate less food. I even named my diet. It's the "Don't Eat So Damn Much Food, You Big Fatty" diet. And it works every time. Just don't eat so much. Always, always, always, leave some food on your plate. You don't have to change ANY of your eating habits. You can still have that cheesburger and fries (chips). Just don't finish it. Leave some. Want some onion rings? Fine. Just don't finish them all. Want to order desert? OK. Just don't eat it all. Leave some! I used to eat all my food and then finish off my wife's plate. What a pig! No wonder I gained weight.
So just eat less food. This is a pretty easy diet because it doesn't deprive you of ANYTHING. All your favorite foods are on it. Just be sure to leave some food on your plate when you are done. After a few months you will not feel the need for all that food.
The other thing you need to understand, or accept, is the feeling of hunger. That gnawing feeling in your tummy that we interpret as the signal to eat is the FEELING of losing weight. That's what it FEELS like to lose weight. So try and redirect you brain around that concept. When you feel that "hunger" feeling just remind yourself that that's the feeling of losing weight. Drink some water, eat some ice, get something in your stomach to couteract that feeling. It will go away.
Now, do you need to exercise to lose weight? (I know I'll get some flack for this) but NO, you don't have to exercise to lose weight. Will it help? Of course! But do you have to? No. You can lose weight just lying in your bed. Just consume fewer calories than you need, and you will lose. Exercise will keep you in shape. Exercise is GOOD for you. But exercise burns relatively few calories. It's an ineficient way to lose weight. You have to really WORK at exercise to burn significant calories to make any real diference in your weight.
So please do your exercises. But don't confuse exercise with the very real need to REDUCE your caloric intake. This is the ONLY way to reduce your weight. Whatever you decide will work for you, you HAVE to eat fewer calories than you burn. This is the ONLY way. I have suggested a method which worked for me and which I think will work for you. Try it or try another. Just remember the scientific facts. It all comes down to calories burned vrs. calories taken in.
Think.
Lovies,
Stephenie
