I do but I'm not that bold with my fingers. I'll wear a shiny clear or a color called "Bridal Blush" It's a light white. Real shiny though. My toes are always painted either a clear or the "bb" color but sometimes I'll wear a real color all week and just wear socks when the kids come home. If I don't have to run errands I'll wear a color around the house but take it off before picking up the kids

I have done clear polish in drab a few times on my fingers, but my toes have been painted 24/7 for the last 5 months.

I've shamelessly worn clear nail polish in public in drab. If anyone asks me about it, I just say I think it looks nicer.
I'm not daring enough to do that with red nail polish though.

I used to favor darker shades of polish in my younger days. Now a coat of clear is all that I use. I have worn it to work many times. It is not apt to be seen where I work so, I keep it on and may take it off at work if I feel a bit worried. I just love looking at my nails when driving though.

Doesn't Penn Jillette have one fingernail painted while in drab? He has long hair too. I wonder?
This could be the signal we are looking for!

I wear clear on my nails a lot of the time, to anywhere, and these last few days a light skin tone. Don't really want to take it off... Keep thinking, why should I? What's wrong with them anyway? They're nice. Not too noticeable at a glance. Toying with the idea of leaving them painted when I go to my brother's tomorrow. Higly likely he would notice, not sure if he'd say so though.
Black would be pretty safe as goth / rock colour too, or you could colour coordinate nails with clothes.
That one nail painting thing... might be like the having one ear pierced thing was, and now it's pretty normal to have both pierced.

That's just how I feel after having polish on my fingernails over a weekend or a holiday (I kept my nails polished for a week over Halloween - always had the excuse of a party!) Several times when it was time to remove it I'd leave my left little finger painted, partly because, as quoted above, I just liked it, partly to see if anyone noticed. No one has (or at least has said anything) so far, even when wearing bright colors.

I always wear a clear wet shine nail polish on my fingers, although not on my thumbs which are the largest nails and the most obvious. I've got say though how many people look at other peoples' fingernails?

Just don't need anyone to know.

Toenails polished bright red 24/7/365. Every now and then (while I'm out and about) frosted pink on my fingernails.

I would use some clear on my fingernails if they were ever long enough. I can't seem to grow 'em long enough, so they look ugly with or without polish. I have to use phony nails, which I only put on when I'm going out.
Now, my toenails are a different story. Right now, they're not painted, but I have kept them painted(red) for months at a time. I'll paint 'em again after I see the doctor next month. I'm not into flaunting my CDing in front of the medical profession.

Tricky question.
Not long ago I would have said, 'At least clear nail polish in drab too'.
But I had to realize that only about 1 in 20 women actually are waering nail polish on a regular basis. This holds true even for the stylish ones.
So that leaves me a bit confused right now :D

My toes are always painted, most lavender colors. I paint my fingernails only at home unless it's a clear and I'll sometimes go out. On a long weekend trip to NYC this summer I had sandals and shorts and had clear on both toes and fingers. Was so awesome until who takes the seat next to us at the airport but..... my boss's wife!!! My wife handled it better than I. Nothing was said but I can only imagine what she told her husband. Oh well ..... right?? LOL

As an alternitive if you have a buffing block , and you should. Your nails will shine just like they have a clear coat , maybe better. My block has Four sides so you can even go with wich ever level of shine your comfortable with.

I started out with just my natural nails grown out. When I was going out, I would put color on them. I did break one or two so I went to getting acrylic overlays with the shine buffed off some. The acrylic, over time, will yellow. I changed nail technicians & she suggested I go with gel instead of acrylic. I have had gel overlays for over a year now. A couple months ago, I started getting an "american" manicure. That looks very natural. For our holiday party last weekend, I got them done in a "french" manicure. Wore the french all week. It is a little too noticeable for me. I went in Monday & had the french polish buffed off & now they are just natural with the gel. Next time I need a fill-in, I will go back to the american. I would be totally lost without my nails Since I have had them long for so long.
Sorry, no pictures. have no way to put them on here.

This is an interesting thread because, for me, things have "been developing".
I used to not wear anything on my fingernails ....only my toes, and only in the winter. Nowadays I am always wearing something on my toes even when I wear my saltwater sandals in the summer, usually pink type colors, then about 6 months ago I started wearing shiny clear on my rapidly growing longer fingernails. Today, my fingernails are so long (well over a quarter of an inch past my finger tips) and I only wear shiny clear at work, all other times I have a "home version" French Manicure given to me by my wife. However she keeps saying that she wants me to have an American manicure 24/7 :D

My wife painted my toenails before the holidays and I love it. I plan on keeping them painted until the summer sandal season starts.
The only downside is that we're thinking about joining a health club. I guess showering in the locker room is out.

I routinely have both my fingernails and toes painted every two weeks at the Nail Salon. My toes are always done in a bright feminine color, and my my finger nails are always done in some shade of pink. Been complimented by lady customers in the Nail Salon many times! I also have full acrylics and keep my nail slightly long and rounded like a GG's. I do get some comments, but just tell people I like my nails that way. In warm weather, I wear open toe sandals often to show off my pretty toes. My diabetes doctor, who always checks my feet as part of his exam, usually comments on how pretty my toes are!!:heehee:

I pretty much varnish my toe nails on a daily basis (getting through lots of varnish remover) purely as a practise exercise so that when i finally come out of the closet i can wear a nice pair of strappy sandals and feel confident that my toe nails look good.
My fingernails however only get a coat of varnish if im doing a full dress up but i do manicure. Manicure skills are far from perfect but practise will make perfect.

Well yah...toenails are often but not always done.
My Christmas tradition is a red nail with a with french style tip.
I have done tha one for over ten years except this year.
Too much going on.
Coincidentaly I have my toe nails red for the first time in a while.
I just did it last night.
One thing I recommend is a BASE COAT!!
If you do that you will not get staining from the colour. If that is important to you.
When I do my nails right I always do a basecoat, colour, then a clear top coat.
Interesting note here, I actually taught my g/f a lot about this.
She has been a model and worked all over Europe on most major runways in her prime she has done hundreds of magazine layouts, (adverts only for you dirty minds) and shared dressing areas with dozens of the top models of her day.Yet, she told me that this was something she never knew!?!
You would think that with that many women who need to look fabulous for a living would pick up a few tips?
Funny how the fabulous diva model had to learn nail care tips from her cross dressing boyfriend eh? She would never admit this though.
Anyway, I am shrugging and typing too much.
Better get some work done...with my red toenails.
Jestina.

I get regular pedicures every two weeks and my toes have been polished 24/7 for almost 3 years now. My nail tech now knows that I CD and has a private room She does my pedicure and polish with out question. I often get some shade of red from OPI, however, one time I told her that I had read about Lincoln Park after Dark. My next pedicure she had bought that color for me. It was fantastic! Frequently, she does a mani and polishes my fingernails in a French Manicure. I got a new pedicure on Wednesday and she did my toes in OPI Red. She asked if I wanted a French for my fingers and I decided to get OPI Red on fingers also since I was off work and could stay home. They looked awesome. She does not do acrylics because she is allergic to the material in acrylics, but if she did, I know that I would have acrylics on occassions. Her business partner does my waxing from neck down.

I sit right alone side the other GG's while I am getting a pedicure and my toe nails polished. Not one GG has said anything negitive. In fact one helped me pick out a color and last time the GG sitting next to me asked if she could have the bottle of polish I was getting my toes in because the color looke so good on my toes she want her tech to polish her toes in the same color. we chatted away that morning and even sat side by side at the maincure stations too.

Since I joined this forum, I let my nails grow to about 1/2" beyond my tips, and I keep my finger and toe nails polished at all times.
I dress and I semi-dress, so I never know what I'll be wearing or when I'll "fully-dess" (wig etc). so I'm always "just me".
Right now have my toes done in a deep gold and my fingers in a light gold. Getting a manicure tomorrow, let's see, last time I went srmi-drab, pocket-tee, missy embroidered shorts, fem sandals and lipstick. This time I'm going to wear a new, deep-V neck, embroidered, pink tee, denm, above the knee skirt, sandals, purse, lipstick, eye shadow, liner and mascara. Hmmm, maybe a necklace, fem-watch and braclet too, giggle.
I love being me! giggle

Been keeping my fingers polished for better than a year now. Use Sally Hansen "Hard As Nails" clear gloss. When I do my nails once every two weeks I put on four coats and they look real shiney. My toes have been done since July. (just love it) This time I had them done in a glittey red with a snowman on each big toe. My next pedicure appt in in two weeks, almost Valentine time, so I'm gonna get them done in a bright pink with either a heart or Cupid on the big toe.
When my wife saw them this time she just rolled her eyes as if to say, "you old fool", but at least she didn't yell at me to "take that stuff off"

I like my nails long and love the ritual of grooming my hands & nails. I wear a clear-to -pink polish - not too noticeable. Just my wife comments and few glances by work associates. So far I'm not compelled to shorten my nails nor stop the manicures.

As my nails are often split, chipped and torn, I got my wife to do them in clear hardening varnish from Sally Hansen two weeks ago. Works a treat, and look good. If asked why they look so good I can always say that it is for 'remedial treatment'. Why not give it a try?

Just a matter of time.
I'm going to out myself one day.
My toenails are polished now but it's winter here and even I never see them <But you can! Just check out "Post your pretty toes polished." on the Pic/Vid Forum>. I think next summer would be a good time  I could hide them if I had to, otherwise show them off.
I've been wanting to do my hands - you girls have given me some ideas - maybe I'll start with clear or just a finger or two. Oh the ways we encourage each other! :hugs:

When my two sides were fighting each other, I used to wear clear nail polish at work to spite myself (!?)along with "toned down" mascara, shadow, blush and face powder and pantyhose, panties and bra under my work clothes. Did I care if anyone noticed? Not really as my "tomboy" persona was emerging and I would have literally busted anyone in the chops if they said anything(angry young lady, that one). Now that things have settled out, when I'm Ericka, I'm Ericka, when I'm Richard, I'm Richard because I know who I am. Richard is "all guy" and "real men" don't wear nail polish or eat quish (or do they?):p

Every winter my toenails are painted a bright red. Can't do it in the summer because I'm at the lake alot and don't wear socks. Lately, when I get a manicure, my girl has been buffing my fingernails. Makes them look like a clear polish, but isn't. Really like it that way.

My toes are almost always painted nowadays Life is too short to have ugly toes. hehehe.
I'll sometimes wear finger nail polish when in drab. Usually it is clear or a very light pink. I once went out with pinker-then-normal nails and when asked I just claimed that it was the new way guys are showing support for breast cancer.

I remember being about 14 or 15 and my younger sister got this crazy nail polish, the kind that had sparkley stuff floating in it, anyway I put one swipe on and it didnt leave enough sparkles so I kept layering until my whole thumb was covered with these sparkles, holey cow was my sister mad when she had seen how much of it I used... she then banned me from her nail polishes. The funniest part was I still wasn't out to her at that time.

I don't know how this thread got to be about getting caught or coming close, but here it goes for me and my story.
This morning, I got out of bed put on the kettle and roused the kids for the first day back to school.
My youngest came out and stood talking to me in the kitchen while I made a cup of mud and she ate cerial.
I went down the hallway to the bathroom and my oldest was standing in front of the mirror.
I stopped quickly and splat, coffee spilled onto the floor.
I looked down and saw...bnright red toenails!!!
Quick retreat for slippers and a mop.
Wow, a close one. This is something my daughters would not yet be ready to see.
They are aware that I know quite a bit about make up hair and nail care, but they think it is because I am a single dad raising girls. LOL! Well that's not untrue.
