Police Dressed In Drag Catch Red Light Runners
POSTED: 4:22 pm EST December 13, 2006
UPDATED: 5:33 pm EST December 13, 2006
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Palm Beach County police and sheriff's deputies gave a new meaning to the term "Dragnet" Wednesday.
They spent the morning catching drivers allegedly running red lights at busy intersections in West Palm Beach -- all while dressed in drag.
Police told TV station WPBF that 6-foot-tall, 250-pound "Officer Delicious," who in real life is Officer Terry Golden, attracted a lot of attention while dressed as a woman during the Red Light Runner campaign.
Officer Delicious stood at the intersection and radioed fellow officers down the street, who would pull over violators.
Authorities reported they pulled over and ticketed 77 drivers who ran red lights in just under 90 minutes. Each driver received a ticket for $185.50, meaning Palm Beach County pulled in $14,283.50 in all.
Police said Officer Dave Oxley also played along in the sting, dressing up as homeless-eccentric "Officer Looney."
Organizers told WPBF they hope the operation will send a strong message to motorists to think twice about running red lights.
If "Officer Delicious" could put herself together better, maybe drivers would have come to a full and complete stop. :heehee:

Might as well - cops have the highest divorce rates in the nation to begin with.

A plain clothes male standing would not attract attention. Unless they figure guys are showing off to the "girls" by running red lights!:heehee:

Many male vice cops in the past have dressed up as part of a undercover sting.

Great, next step is to have cops who when they arrest you want you to put the handcuffs on them.
Bad cop, no doughnut.

I was thinking along those lines...is a 6' tall, 250 guy in drag a distraction and causing people to run a light inadvertantly? Sounds like a revenue-enhancing operation more than a public safety issue.

Carry a polaroid camera, take a pix, then get their name, maybe they will let you off with just a warning!

Not really entrapment. It does mean the drivers weren't paying attention to their driving. Drivers who are distracted, by whatever means, are dangerous drivers.
But, hey, if I were a cop, I'd volunteer for that duty. I've distracted a couple of drivers in my day.

I saw a recent show where they had another cop down there dressed up as a christmas Elf, waving at the cars and running his speed gun at the same time. Sounds to me like The local Sheriff is a publicity hound who likes to have his department on national Tv.
Isn't this just great for all of us. We already have a problem with negative public image. I do hope that one of those guys who got the two hundred dollar ticket, doesn't decide to take it out on one of us, if he sees us out shopping.
Trust me, people are quite capable of making cognitive leaps like that! "Hey, some dude in a dress got me a ticket and a night in The Can, guess I'll just beat the hell out of this guy, he's wearin' a dress too!"
Oh well, at least maybe one of us will get their "15 minutes of fame". We get to be a semi-star on an episode of Cops....oh boy!

Those kinds of operations are all illegal, if someone wanted to get a lawyer, and make an issue of it. When a cop signs a ticket, he is swearing that he witnessed you commiting the aforementioned offense, when in fact he didn't. It is hearsay evidence. He was told by some other cop to stop some car, when in fact he did not see the driver do anything wrong. The cop who sees you speeding, or running a red light, must sign the ticket, and attest to the offense, to be legal. They do it, simply because they can.
In the community where I live, both judges were elected with the support, and endorsement of the local police officers association, and the command officers association. How fair and unbiased can they be, when they owe their jobs to the cops who put them in office.
