Some other thread made me think of this and I thought I would share it.

After all the efforts I have made consulting books and magazines and cosmeticians and all the bumbling and wasted money on the wrong creams, hair products, and lipsticks, I found this little book at CVS called the Beauty Book. 8 dollars.

For most girls on this site, it is probably all too basic. Most of you might even know about it. But for newbies like me, it was a great discovery. I also did feel a little bit like a fool for not finding it earlier, but what can I do now?

It has thoroughly illustrated chapters on make-up, lipstick, colors, hair and skin care, even manicure and pedicures are touched on. It has lots of little simple tips and even natural easy recipes for your own concoctions. It explains the difference between different cleansers and conditioners, etc.

This should be required reading in CDing 101 - before the skirt first comes on!

You "newbies" as you so gingerly call yourself have it pretty good these days. When I was growing up in the 50's and 60's the only 'instruction" I had was the countless makeup and beauty commercials on TV that how to put on eye shadow, makeup, etc. One in particular showing how to dramatize your eyes by Maybelline was to die for. It showed how some "mousey" looking girl could look like a dream to attract her man in about 5 minutes. Every time I saw that thing, I almost swooned and wanted it to be me. There are even books written by famous CD's on the art and illusion of CDing nowadays. I had a couple of these and used some tips but eventually settled into my own style. It's mostly trial and error but after awhile, you get to know what works best for you. Ericka Kay
