I emailed Victoria's Secret and asked them directly if they have a policy on men who want to try on products in stores prior to purchasing them.
A customer service representative wrote back.
She said that becuase VS primary "target market" is female, VS stores may limit male use of dressing rooms. She also said that men are welcomed to use dressing rooms, and VS stores welcome business from male customers. :)
I'm pretty happy.
Of course, if I could shop at VS more I'd be prettier & happier. :)

Here is another little thing about Victoria Secrets.
1. More men have Angel Cards than women do.
2. More men subscrib to the catalog than women do.
I was told this from three different VS SA's.

JoAnn Dallas,
That is so interesting! More men have Angel Cards than women....
Wow! I can't believe it....was it SAs from different stores?
Michelle
PS: Oh, and for the record, my email was almost redundant, since I've been buying & trying on for years (and even got a fitting). But I was still pleasantly surprised by their written response, and by what you mentioned here. CDs aren't the only ones to get catalogs or have Angel cards, I guess.

men don't necessarily have to be buying stuff for themselves. i did actually go in and buy some stuff for a girlfriend and that is when i got a card. we broke up and now i use it for myself.
you get a gift certificate for your birthday which i am looking forward to using next month.

princessmichelle......This was from SA's in two different stores.
I love it when they send you those gift certificates. I got one a few weeks ago. It was a $10 gift card.

Shopping for used jeans my wife stumbled upon an Ebay listing for a dozen VS catalogs - you know the ones we all get in the mail. We were amazed. They sold for like $26.00 plus $4.00 "media rate" postage.

I got a VS gift Card in the Mail for a Free pair of panties. So I went and got them. The Sales Girl was very friendly and helped me find what I was looking for. Just love that store.

I used to work for the printer that had the VS catalog account. We printed 25 million every quarter we also mailed them so I know whith out a doubt those mailing lists had far more amle names than female. VS retail sales are pretty small percentage of total sales. The sales rep for this account was paid over one miliion a year in comission alone. The irony of that is he was so flaming gay you woud swear he was going to start singing show tunes any second. He called all of us pressman "sweety" and "hun" he was good to us though with thoughtful gifts for our work and we always looked forward to seeing him when he was in town. Oh by the way...........after 25 million its not about the panties anynore. Its just ink, paper and water (printers saying)

So VS is completely willing to accept your money, but they also reserve the right to discriminate against you ?

I would expect to see a quote like that on the Lucianne or the Free Republic site, not here. For shame.

Whenever I've been in the store, there's a lot more women than men. They love a lot of things about the clothes, like the way VS's bras fit. Some want to look sexy for an SO. Some women simply like wearing garterbelts and stocking more than pantyhose.
I have a VS card, because my wife asked me to apply for one. She uses it a lot more than I do. Especially since there's not a lot they sell I can fit into.
So more men having the cards doesn't mean a whole lot. Maybe the husband has a better credit rating. Maybe it was to get a discount on an initial purchase/gift, since their clothes are expensive.
And a good number of men and CDs have VS cards so they can order from the catalog or online.

Like DayTripper wrote, I thought VS hedged a little on their statement. We can use the dressing rooms, but they can limit our use.
A word about their dressing rooms: when I was trying on bras before Halloween, I used one of their dressing rooms. I felt they were blah. Red and white vertical stripes on the walls and kind of small.

That's kind of what I read into it, Tripper :)

I shop dressed at VS on a regular basis, say onece every month or so. I do use the dressing rooms for dresses/skirts/tops only. I am dressed appropriately, and very nice to the sales staff. I have been treated IMMENSELY well at the 5 different VS stores I shop at.
Years ago I a bought a bridal gown at David's in person, and even through my 2 fittings was treated like a princess there. Granted it was a very high end gown, but they treated me great. They are immensely helpful with everything from bridal lingerie, shoes, accesoories, etc.
Take Care,
Andi

Michelle, I could have told you that. I have been shopping openly at VS in drab for the last 7 years. I have had a VS card for 6 years. I have not only tried on bras in several different stores, but SA's have said--do you want to try that style on?" I can't speak for other states, but in PA, noone can try on panties. It's a sanitary thing. Any cd who has any fear about shopping in VS is afraid of their own shadow.

"Limiting their use" might mean that if the store is full of customers and there are too few dressing rooms they might give priority to the women. (And if things were crowded there would be a greater chance that one of their woman customers is squeamish about being in a dressing room right next to a man.)

Yes, I caught all that. And that is reserving the right to discriminate.
I've never been in a VS. I've seen the ocassional catalog and I think it's sexist, corny crap from the Hugh Hefner era.
But hey, that's probably just sour grapes 'cause, after all, I'm just a flat-chested old broad.

Dam. I get Email all the time from these guys/gals saying I have a cert waiting for me. But I have never bought from them or took their catalog. Maybe they put in a search engine "panties-guy-buys lingerie", then my name pops up.:o

Not to highjack the thread but I know I have said similar things lovingly to gay friends that I have had. So long as you are not saying it in a negative manner and no feelings get hurt why do we need all of this pc stuff.

Ah, but the above quoted line was not loving or positive, hence Tekla rightly called Chrysy on it.
Why do we - meaning TGs - need 'all of this pc stuff'?
You're kidding, right?

I dont mean specifically tgs I mean the general public. All that having special terms for people who are "different" does is draw attention to the fact that some people are indeed different. Why not just view each person as a person and forget that they are gay or tg or black or whatever. That was what I meant by that.

the limit of use could be to keep people with certain fantasies from doing improper actions in the dressing rooms.
I've gone shopping at 3 different stores and never been denied a dressing room, and the sales staff didn't treat me any different than any other customers.

At the risk of battering the topic...
'PC' is a defense against the discriminatory prejudices and stereotypes held by the general public. PC is a reclaiming of language - and I believe it remains an important project. 'Flaming,' 'show tunes' - that's still the equivalant of 'funky' and 'watermelon.'
Right now, there's a lot of conservatives who claim 'civil rights' have been gained, therefore affirmative action should be dismantled and they always say utopian things like 'just treat people like people.' But while discrimination continues to exist, that reasoning upholds the status quo.

And its like soooo clichie, showtunes, really, I know more gay guys who listen to Rob Halford and Judas Priest than can sing the score to Chicago. Hellbent for Leather is a lot more popular in the gay community then I Enjoy Being a Girl from Flower Drum Song.

Just call me Goundhog . . . in the morning, Baby! VS is really really hard for me to be in, let alone shop in - not so much the fear, but the sensory overload!! Satins, laces, sheers . . . sigh. :<3:
And the fact you can sell their used catalogues on eBay supports DT's categorization of them as Hugh Hefner era . . .
But, really DT, just go savor the store once and tell me your pulse rate didn't go up . . . how'd Wavy put it at Woodstock "and for those of you who think capitalism isn't all that weird . . ." (OK I know, VS didn't burn down and the context is a stretch):heehee:

Last time I was in a VS, I was with my grandneice and when the SA came up to us and asked if we need any help. I pulled my Angel card out and told the SA that my neice was the one needing the help. The SA saw my Angel card, laughted and helped my neice look for what she was looking for. BTW, the SA's lite up like a christmas tree when saw my card. I'm sure the card makes all the difference. LOL

I'm sorry but neither the catalogs or the window displays increase my pulse. Silicone and hairspray just don't do it for me.
But I do think my pulse is OK. I just downloaded a couple of Joni Mitchell albums I never heard before and - whoa!
