Well, some people never ask about a lot of things.
What do you do about your fingernails?
I've been letting mine grow a bit and when I asked my SO, she gave one of those metal, diamond-dust files.
I'm retired now, and I'm thinking... Why not.

I keep them short due to work...but I paint them on my time.:)
And if no interference I say grow them.
Do whatever you want that you feel ready to do is my new motto.:hugs:

All my life,I have never had long nails. But I had a clerical job for 3 years and wonder of wonders, I was no longer breaking or chipping my nails and I had to constantly file and shape them. I know they got suspiciously long (for a guy) but it was fun. I am no longer doing the clerical work so I am back to short battered, chipped and cracked nails. I am often tempted to get some gel nails. I look at all the nail salons wistfully, as I drive by. marie354, if you can, let them grow. Have fun. It certainly makes your hands look better.

I let them grow but usually it gets to a point where they start chipping and I have to "bite the bullet" and cut them. Even so, I put nail polish on every day and since I've been retired have not had to remove it so often lately.I do need to keep them somewhat "functional" however, so even when I let them grow, I keep trimming and filing. I probably don't give them the care they should have in regard to cuticles, etc. I have a gay friend who puts my nails to shame. He's got beautifully shaped and polished nails and I always tell him how much I envy him. Oh well, can't have everything I guess. Ericka

Yeh, mine are basic, too. I've got the best polish - Opi - but obviously not the best nails. I keep 'em short & shiny - and they're always fraying anyway. Sad - considering I don't do any 'real' work!

Since about a year ago, I let my fingernails grow until my wife objects to them, then I trim them back. Her limit right noe is about 1/4 inch long before she "objects" to the length.

My nails had gotten quite long until the Christmas build up. One of my hobbies is wood turning so this year I decided to make presents...bowls, candlesticks and so on. You can imagine what has happened to those lovely long nails.

I thank all of you wonderful people here for your comments. They really do look nice when you polish them if they're shaped right. I'm working on it.
:hugs:
I'm getting better doing this all the time, I think. Practice, practice, practice.

Gosh. I love 'em painted. But since I'm not out to anyone but wife and a handful of friends, they're rarely painted.
And then there is that weekend hobby of restoring an old muscle car. It's hard on my nails - even with wearing modern Mechanix gloves and nitril gloves for anything yeecky. (Orange oil cleaners are the best degreasers ever - they leave your skin soft and don't dry it out - the days of Lava soap are waaaay over.)
So, my nails tend to be short. But I will file them for a nice shape - a relaxing thing to do watching some TV.
