I think that they should have fired him for washing his car in the nude and neighbor complaints, not for his crossdressing. That was wrong and shines a bad light on us. His point was valid... There are no laws against crossdressing.

No laws protecting it either.

I think he needs to appeal to the EU Court for Human Rights. This sounds like a clear violation of the EU Human Rights Charter

No laws period. What does that tell us? Ericka

no sense of honor or moral values
You don't need laws with this reasons.
Old story ... some think they invested morals.

No, Italy is still very conservative, and with respect to human rights, Article 21.1 of the EU Charter of Rights prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation, but not specifically gender identity. As in every other region of the world, CDs are not on anyone's radar screen but our own. Perhaps in time.......

Unfortunatley a lot of police agencies have very general rules where they can fire you if they feel you have done anything which can "make the department look bad".

in time he may find it was the best thing that happened to him / no more fear / no more hiding / no more having to be a policeman which is a very hard job / and he can sue / they do have courts in Italy / and they tend to settle / just like they do here

I hope you are right but a lot of police officers don't want to do anything else. It is not just a job for them, it is a way of life.

yes / but is it a good way of life? / much sorrow in that job / high rates of drug abuse, spouse abuse and self-inflicted death / as a lawyer I knew many / they were not happy people

Sorry Amanda we are not under any protection under any law. Look up "Win Dixie vs. Cross Dresser". That gurl went federal after being fired for admitting it. No incidents of embarrassment to the company just admitted it to his employer that he does. In the end the court ruled against her. The only recourse would be to lie and say your gay. Pm me some time. Iv'e been there on this one.

Sounds like my story. Companies spy on me after work and find I'm a crossdressor then they fire me or don't make me go permanent. From now on I'm gonna shop in drag when I get back to Chicago.

the dirty secret about legal stuff is that its not about the law / its about the lawyers / cases are won/lost/settled not based on law but on money / if you can prove you are going to cost them more money they they are being asked to give you its all over but the signing of the papers
there were many times when i was in practice that i got people off who were very guilty / and times i saw people lose who were innocent

If that's really the case, then there should be, what, maybe only 200 cops in the world.

Well, you know ... beating the wife or the children, blacks, gays etc. is conistant with "the morals". It might not be pc anymore right now, but that didn't change the overal morals.

If that Officer worked in New York City, and was fired, he would have a big lawsuit. :2c:

Goes to show your better off with nothing on that to crossdress. What's the world coming too. Let's stick it to him because he is different. Maybe the judge is a crossdresser and does not want to get caught himself trying to save another crossdresser.

I always thought Italy was more progressive than this.
NOT when it comes to gender! Keep in mind that the country is 97% catholic.
I was happy to see a shift though with regard to homosexuality. The apartment I rented in Rome (way more conservative than Venice) was in a funky neighborhood called Trastevere. There were several gay clubs, open signs of homosexual affection between and flyers posted all over for various GL events. Six years ago I didn't see any of that and stayed in the same neighborhood. Some of the Jeans the straight guys were wearing were competing with the females for femme. I'm talking big D & G right across the arse! :) So, who knows... maybe in another six years I'll go back and venture "out". (Left all girl clothes at home on the last trip.)
