Does anyone know anything about the sweet potato queens? It is some kind of women's society, but their pictures seem to always include a man in the costume as well...

Here is their web site, but it doesn't explain much.

If you know anything, please share!!

A 1 minute search on Amazon.com returned this:

"The Sweet Potato Queens are a group of Southern women of a certain age known for their no-holds-barred approach to life and their no-nonsense brand of advice"

and

"Unlike other beauty queens, the Jackson, Miss., Sweet Potato Queens are self-crowned, rule for life (there's no "former" tag for these gals) and are real women?figure flaws and all. Originally organized in 1982, the Queens are, by their own account, "fallen Southern belles" and "female drag queens"?and as such, they are all about attitude and humor."

They have a series of books ranging from life guides to cookbooks.

All I can say is OGM. I never thought I would see anything like that I my life. I just looked at the web site and I have to say that I have for sure met some wouthern women that fit the bill. I spent 7 yrs living in GA and the attitude that I saw from the site for sure fits some of my memmories.

It makes me wonder where the idea came from. I didn't really go into to much detail in looking at the site but what I did read I found to be interesting. Think I might have to get one of their books just to see what they are all about.

I try not be judgemental about anything that I don't know anything about. But it sure looks like a great marketing scam, as well as an interesting foray into female madness.

And as PT Barnum said there is one born every minute, yes one heck of a marketing scam on that site. Face they are there to sell. :)
