I was reading Chris Beam's book Transparent (pretty good) and there was mention made of a California name & gender change form called DL-328 - a real silver bullet because supposedly it waives the whole cumbersome name change process (expensive, too). So I called the county clerk's office and requested it ... and then received a whole bunch of other forms along with the usual cumbersome (and expensive) stuff, plus even more cumbersome stuff (doctor's form proving SRS). In the book where DL-328 was mentioned, SRS was not necessary and the whole process was a breeze. The book was published in 2007. Does anyone here know about this obscure little form?

Daytripper you are on the right track. I took a copy of DL-328 to my hormone doctor and he signed it right there on the spot, no questions asked. Okay he asked me two, the first was how long have I felt the way that I do and second one was did I serve in the military ever. I'm just a little dissapointed that I havn't had the chance to have to show it to any bouncer at a club or at the store when buying alcohol and such. It will only cost you $19 which is what the DMV charges for a duplicate license, no way around that.

I am so on it! $19 is a lot better than the $340 the county clerk was demanding!
I gotta keep reading books - and talking to you gals!

JoanLynn-- very interesting questions from your Endrocrinologist. The first one, well, sure, he should know that as a matter of course. But the second one seems pretty irrelevent... whatever happend to that thing they call "don't ask don't tell" LoL. But I'm glad it went smooth for you.

The $340 fee is for the official legal name change, something I will do in the next step for my transition. Only my current financial situation is keeping me from going ahead with it. That and I still own property jointly with my ex and I don't need to complicate things anymore than necessary until the property is sold. Hopefully after all is said and done I will have plenty of money to go and get it done.

I talked with DMV yesterday and it seems like it'll be a smooth ride. At least, providing my (rapidly cooling) GP goes along with his end. Details to follow.
