Hi, All. Had quite the afternoon yesterday in Indianapolis and wanted to share.
Went out dressed - cute misses jeans, high heeled boots, tight turtleneck, breast forms, leather jacket, earrings, and full makeup. Walked the Castleton mall for 45 minutes (boy did my feet hurt!), and for the most part no one noticed with the exception of a few looks. Window shopped mainly, but did go into Merle Norman (I called first to make sure they were ok with CDs - they were. As many have said, those in retail are focused on selling and dont care how you're dressed). But the purpose of my post is to encourage others to go out and share what i noticeds:
* Take a deep breath and try not to look nervous. I'm sure i looked nervous at first and walked fast, but after a bit I calmed down.
* You dont stand out as much as you think. I saw severl ggs that i didnt
think looked as passable/made up as i did - and I'm being objective
* If you can, call a few stores ahead of time to make sure they're ok with
CDs. I checked with Lane Bryant and VicSec - both were fine with me
coming in, but i chickened out when i saw some stunning ggs in both
* Try to go to a mall mid-morning, early afternoon to build confidence. Less
people are out, you shake out the jitters, and SAs are more
open/friendly - at least they were on the phone)
* If you make eye contact with a gg, smile politely. You can do the same
with men (if you feel comfortable), but dont look down and walk faster.
Its ok if you look away, but try to keep the same pace. If you look guilty
or out of place, you will be
The next time i go out (and it will be soon), I plan to shop more assertively and try on dresses and other things. I hope to take my wife too (she's been reluctant to go out, but I think she will). I still need help on my makeup, but its getting better. Oh - I also ordered a Voller corset (had tried one on last time i was in Chicago at Skyscraper Heels - nice people!). They are exepnsive $225, but talk abt magic! Pulled my waist in 6 inches! These are the real thing vs Fredericks which are nice but more costume than function. Anyhow, it made me physically look more female than i could ever imagined.
I'm curious as to what others have experienced, from when they first went out dressed, to those who may be a bit more experienced. Please share what you went thru and any advice (clothes, where, when, etc) you might have. I hope this starts some good conversation, but more than anything shares with us new to go out dressed, what to expect, what you felt and what you might have done differently, or what really worked well. Was I just lucky, or did others go thru the same when they first went out during the day?
P.S.
Sorry for the long post, but this site has really helped me and i want to help others as I learn more.
