For me it's Doris Day singing "I Enjoy Being A Girl":

*

I'm a girl, and by me that's only great!
I am proud that my silhouette is curvy,
That I walk with a sweet and girlish gait
With my hips kind of swivelly and swervy.

I adore being dressed in something frilly
When my date comes to get me at my place.
Out I go with my Joe or John or Billy,
Like a filly who is ready for the race!

When I have a brand new hairdo
With my eyelashes all in curl,
I float as the clouds on air do,
I enjoy being a girl!

When men say I'm cute and funny
And my teeth aren't teeth, but pearl,
I just lap it up like honey
I enjoy being a girl!

I flip when a fellow sends me flowers,
I drool over dresses made of lace,
I talk on the telephone for hours
With a pound and a half of cream upon my face!

I'm strictly a female female
And my future I hope will be
In the home of a brave and free male
Who'll enjoy being a guy having a girl... like... me.

I have a playlist on the iBook, Dancing Queen by Abba, Sin Wagon by the Dixie Chicks, California Girls, Man, I Feel Like a Woman, Low Spark of High Heeled Boys, Lipstick & Leather by Y&T, LA Woman, Suffragette City, Just Like a Woman, American Girl, Killer Queen, and about 30 more, but my fav is Bad Reputation by Joan Jett with the Dixie Chicks in second place

Well now I've been good for way too long
Found my red dress and I'm gonna throw it on
'Bout to get too far gone

Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition
Need a little BIT more of my TWELVE ounce nutrition
One more helpin' of what I've been havin'
I'm takin' my turn on the sin wagon

On a mission to make something happen
Feel like Delilah lookin' for Samson
Do a little mattress dancin'
That's right I said mattress dancin'

Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition
Need a little bit more
of what I've been missin'
I don't know where I'll be crashin'
But I'm arrivin' on a sin wagon

When it's my turn to march up to glory
I'm gonna have one hell of a story

Hi

it's always Lou Reed with me

Make Up

Your face when sleeping is sublime
And then you open up your eyes
Then comes pancake factor number one
Eyeliner rose hips and lips gloss are such fun
Youre a slick little girl
Youre a slick little girl

Rouge and coloring incense and ice
Perfume and kisses oooo its all so nice
Youre a slick little girl
Youre a slick little girl

Now were coming out
Out of our closets
Out on the streets
Yeah, were coming out

When youre in bed its so wonderful
Itd be so nice to fall in love
When you get dressed I really get my fill
People say that its impossible

Gowns lovely made out of lace
And all the things that you do to your face
Youre a slick little girl
Oh, youre a slick little girl
Eyeliner, whitener, then color the eyes
Yellow and green oh what a surprise
Youre a slick little girl
Oh, youre such a slick little girl

Now were coming out
Out of our closets
Out on the streets
Yes, were coming out

and then theres Candy Says, Walk On The Wild Side of course, Halloween Parade,

I couldn't believe that so many of my friends had never listened to the words and had no clue what that song was about. It's always been one of my favorites as well as "I am woman".

Streisand, of course !

From her "Broadway Album"...The whole Damn Thing !

If I have to choose, it would be "Something's Coming" from "West Side Story", though I have a tender place in my heart for "Adelaide's Lament" which is from "Guys and Dolls."
For me, the song is about opening up to receive a miracle !

(Lyrics by Jim Bryant)

Could be!

Who knows?

There's something due any day; I will know right away,
Soon as it shows.

It may come cannonballing down through the sky,
Gleam in its eye, Bright as a rose!

Who knows?

It's only just out of reach, Down the block, on a beach,
Under a tree.

I got a feeling there's a miracle due, Gonna come true, Coming to me!

Could it be? Yes, it could. Something's coming, something good,
If I can wait!

Something's coming, I don't know what it is, But it is Gonna be great!

With a click, with a shock,
Phone'll jingle, door'll knock, Open the latch!
Something's coming, don't know when, but it's soon;
Catch the moon, One-handed catch!

Around the corner,
Or whistling down the river, Come on, deliver
To me!

Will it be? Yes, it will. Maybe just by holding still, It'll be there!

Come on, something, come on in, don't be shy,
Meet a guy, Pull up a chair!

The air is humming,
And something great is coming!

Who knows?

It's only just out of reach, Down the block, on a beach,
Maybe tonight... :c9:

i just loves this lil story of a boy getting made up to be a girl bye three other girls!! <giggles>>>>

I'm A Boy
(Pete Townshend)

One girl was called Jean Marie
Another little girl was called Felicity
Another little girl was Sally Joy
The other was me, and I'm a boy

My name is Bill and I'm a headcase
They practice making up on my face
Yeah, I feel lucky if I get trousers to wear
Spend ages taking hairpins from my hair

Chorus 1
I'm a boy, I'm a boy
But my ma won't admit it
I'm a boy, I'm a boy
But if I say I am I get it

Put your frock on Jean Marie
Plait your hair Felicity
Paint your nails, little Sally Joy
Put this wig on, little boy

Chorus 1

I wanna play cricket on the green
Ride my bike across the street
Cut myself and see my blood
I wanna come home all covered in mud

Chorus 2
I'm a boy, I'm a boy
But my ma won't admit it
I'm a boy, I'm a boy, I'm a boy
I'm a boy, I'm a boy, I'm a boy, I'm a boy
I'm a boy, I'm a boy, I'm__ a__ boy__

Lumberjack: Oh. I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK. I sleep all night and I work all day.
Mounties: He's a lumberjack and he's OK. He sleeps all night and he works all day.
Lumberjack: I cut down trees. I eat my lunch. I go to the lavatory. On Wednesdays I go shopping and have buttered scones for tea.
Mounties: He cuts down trees. He eats his lunch. He goes to the lavatory. On Wednesdays he goes shopping and has buttered scones for tea. He's a lumberjack and he's OK. He sleeps all night and he works all day.
Lumberjack: I cut down trees. I skip and jump. I like to press wild flowers. I put on women's clothing and hang around in bars.
Mounties: He cuts down trees. He skips and jumps. He likes to press wild flowers. He puts on women's clothing and hangs around in bars. He's a lumberjack and he's OK. He sleeps all night and he works all day.
Lumberjack: I cut down trees. I wear high heels, suspenders, and a bra. I wish I'd been a girlie just like my dear papa.

One of the best Python bits ever, and tied in as it is to the Dead Parrot, well the first time I saw it I almost found out why they say 'died laughing' I mean the parrot bit had me on the floor, and then they do the lumberjack song, the expressions on the faces of the chorus are priceless. There were so gifted. And there are piles and piles of CD jokes in the Python deal.

Always loved it in MP& the Holy Grail when the king says to his son
"Someday all this will be yours"
and the kid looks at him and says:
"Wot, the curtins?"

Although it's not a song about crossdressing, I like Shania Twain's 'Man, I feel like a woman.' I get a little jealous when I hear it. Funny we don't really hear any songs that say 'I love being a guy', or 'I feel so masculine today.'

I'm going with "I Feel Like A Woman" by Shania Twain. And yes, "Lola" was done by Ray Davies and the Kinks. I even saw them perform it "live" in a Boston concert back in the late 60's I think. Gawwwd, is that dating me or what! :tongueout

And yup Joyce, I remember that Helen Reddy tune!

"I am woman, watch me roar, in numbers too big to ignore!"

Is is just a conikerdink that I'm a HUGE fan of both The Who and The Kinks?

I've seen both bands many times.

The Who's "I'm a Boy" is a tremendous song, but it's inverted. He's treated and dressed like a girl but wants to be a boy "I'm a boy, I'm a boy, but my ma won't admit it"

The Kinks' "Lola" is an amazing song. It was banned in many places when first released. By today's standards it's very tame.
Ray Davies has always been a wonderful story teller and Lola tells a great story.

I first heard both of these songs in the early 80's. They instantly hit home.
It was just about the time that I was becoming aware that I was a crossdresser. Before then I never thought that my occasional raids of my mother's underwear drawer was anything but a bit of early pubescent excitment.

Thanks Pete and Ray... You've made me the man I am today :)

A few weeks ago I was doing an interview with this guy who was a drummer for a top Hair/Metal band back in the day. I asked him a question.

"What's your deepest secret?' His reply was
"I'm Karen Carpender"

She never played drums, it was a pose. She was so nervous in front of people, and had no idea of what to do with her hands when she was standing there singing, that they stuck her behind a drum kit and put sticks in her hands. But on the records and on the tours someone else did the playing.

How come no mention of Nancy Griffith, Emmylou Harris and the very much missed Kate Wolf? Kate Wolf was one of the most beautyful ladies every, and taken from us much too soon. And Emmylou, pure class, every gray hair included.

Man, "I Feel Like a Woman" by Shania Twain

Man I Feel Like A Woman

I'm going out tonight,
I'm feelin' alright
Gonna let it all hang out
Wanna make some noise,
Really raise my voice
Yeah, I wanna scream and shout

No inhibitions, make no conditions
Get a little outta line
I ain't gonna act politically correct
I only wanna have a good time

The best thing about being a woman
Is the prerogative to have
A little fun and

Oh, go totally crazy, forget I'm a lady
Men's shirts, short skirts
Oh, really go wild,
Yeah, doin' it in style
Oh, get in the action,
Feel the attraction
Color my hair-do what I dare
Oh, oh, oh, I wanna be free,
Yeah, to feel the way I feel
Man! I feel like a woman!

The girls need a break,
Tonight we're gonna take
The chance to get out on the town
We don't need romance,
We only wanna dance
We're gonna let our hair hang down

I get totally crazy
Can you feel it
Come, come, come on baby
I feel like a woman

Thats my choice

I like to play Whatcha Waitin For? by Gwen Stefani because I love the song and because of these lines in particular:

Your moment will run out
Cuz of your sex chromosome
I know it's so messed up how our society all thinks (for sure)

Oh... oh ohhh

Okay, nobody's probably even heard of this one.
I only heard it once, and it made an immediate, permanent and lasting impression on me.
I don't even know what it was called, I think it was Marcy Playground, and the line went something like, "Saint Joe he said he's never been
Dressed up like a woman "

That's all I needed to hear. It doesn't matter the other words were or what the song was about.

What a great topic!!

Tori Amos "She's your Cocaine, she got you shaving you legs (yada yada)....you want to be me, see". I like that line...the rest of the song I can't vouch for.

"New Age" broaches on gender topics as well....

Upon reflection, maybe it's not Tori's song I like as much as her taste in shoes.

Second is "I feel pretty" from West Side Story.

Jane was the only one I saw that mentioned this

I feel pretty,
Oh, so pretty,
I feel pretty, and witty and gay,
And I pity
Any girl who isnÃ*t me today.

I feel charming,
Oh, so charming--
ItÃ*s alarming how charming I feel,
And so pretty
That I hardly can believe IÃ*m real.

See the pretty girl in that mirror there:
Who can that attractive girl be?
Such a pretty face,
Such a pretty dress,
Such a pretty smile,
Such a pretty me!

I feel stunning
And entrancing--
Feel like running and dancing for joy,
For IÃ*m loved
By a pretty wonderful boy!

I think in The movie 'Anger Management' The analyst. (Jack Nickolson), had his patient, (Adam Sandler), sing this to calm him down.

Well, I definitely agree with many of the choices above...esp. Shania, Lou Reed and Aerosmith. But at the end of the day I have to go with the classics and "Sweet Transvestite" from the Rocky Horror Show. (Tim Curry's original London cast version, for the RH geeks out there.) Leaving aside the obvious thematic point, and the fact that it's just a bloody good song, I love the simple flamboyant exuberance of it. The dirty little secret to the record industry, and a lot of live bands too, is that what you see is not what you get. I'm sure she could play somewhat, but at A&M somewhat is not good enough, so those parts were dubbed. Just like more than one great guitar player has a guy in the wings with every electronic device known to man shaping the sound. And more than one band has people playing, like Linda McCartney who are not really in the mix.

Its the most subtle TS song out there, and just a damn good song too, from the Traveling Willburys

Tweeter and the monkey man were hard up for cash
They stayed up all night selling cocaine and hash
To an undercover cop who had a sister named jan
For reasons unexplained she loved the monkey man

Tweeter was a boy scout before she went to vietnam
And found out the hard way nobody gives a damn
They knew that they found freedom just across the jersey line
So they hopped into a stolen car took highway 99

And the walls came down all the way to hell
Never saw them when theyre standing
Never saw them when they fell

The undercover cop never liked the monkey man
Even back in childhood he wanted to see him in the can
Jan got married at fourteen to a racketeer named bill
She made secret calls to the monkey man from a mansion on the hill

It was out on thunder road - tweeter at the wheel
They crashed into paradise - they could hear them tires squeal
The undercover cop pulled up and said everyone of yous a liar
If you dont surrender now its gonna go down to the wire

And the walls came down all the way to hell
Never saw them when theyre standing
Never saw them when they fell

An ambulance rolled up - a state trooper close behind
Tweeter took his gun away and messed up his mind
The undercover cop was left tied up to a tree
Near the souvenir stand by the old abandoned factory

Next day the undercover cop was hot in pursuit
He was taking the whole thing personal
He didnt care about the loot
Jan had told him many times it was you to me who taught
In jersey anythings legal as long as you dont get caught

And the walls came down all the way to hell
Never saw them when theyre standing
Never saw them when they fell

Someplace by rahway prison they ran out of gas
The undercover cop had cornered them said boy, you didnt think that this could last
Jan jumped out of bed said theres someplace I gotta go
She took a gun out of the drawer and said its best if you dont know

The undercover cop was found face down in a field
The monkey man was on the river bridge using tweeter as a shield
Jan said to the monkey man Im not fooled by tweeters curl
I knew him long before he ever became a jersey girl

And the walls came down all the way to hell
Never saw them when theyre standing
Never saw them when they fell

Now the town of jersey city is quieting down again
Im sitting in a gambling club called the lions den
The tv set been blown up, every bit of it is gone
Ever since the nightly news show that the monkey man was on

I guess Ill go to florida and get myself some sun
There aint no more opportunity here, everythings been done
Sometime I think of tweeter, sometime I think of jan
Sometime I dont think about nothing but the monkey man

And the walls came down all the way to hell
Never saw them when theyre standing
Never saw them when they fell

The one that I like is by Weird Al Yankovich called The Truck Driving Song. This song reminds me of my brother who is a truck driver. He drives out west in Alberta.

With apologies also to Lou Reed;

Oh it's such a perfect day
When I'm going en femme.
Oh it's such a perfect day
I never want it to end
I NEVER want it to end...

Happy ever after in the market place
Molly lets the children lend a hand
Desmond stays at home and does his pretty face
And in the evening she's a singer with the band.

Depends on the day for me. Most of the time, my crossdressing theme is Androgyny, by Garbage, but every once in a while I find myself in the mood for Sweet Transvestite from Rocky Horror.

The film "Flower Drum Song" has nancy kwan singing the "I enjoy being a girl song". I always felt a certain identification with Asian women. It makes me very sad that in China, they are killing baby girls. In some provinces, the male population outnumbers the female population so badly, that many Chinese men will not be able to find wives.

I'm beginning to wonder about Ray Davies of the Kinks...
He wrote Lola.... He also wrote "Dedicated Follower of fasion"
This song contains...

"And when he pulls is frilly nylon panties right up tight
He feels a dedicated follower of fashion"

Now as a young teenager I was a huge Kinks and Who fan....

"I'm a Boy", "Lola" and Dedicated..."... Is it any wonder I've ended up as a crossdresser? :)

How about 'Little Alligator' by Steve Vai ??

Rachel Newark

ahhhh, stevie....what a nice little boy.
love him as i do, as to the thread topic it has to be Blur 'boys & girls'. one of those songs that added, in a small way, to the shifting tide of tolerance to anything different.

I certainly agree with "Just A Girl" (No Doubt) and "Lumberjack Song" (Monty Python). One more for me is "Cherry Bomb" by the Runaways.

Can't stay at home, can't stay in school
Old folks say, ya poor little fool
Down the street I'm the girl next door
I'm the fox you've been waiting for!

Hello dad, hello mom, I'm your ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-Cherry Bomb!
Hello world, I'm your wild girl, I'm your ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-Cherry Bomb!
