Hi all:
Today i stoped at HR with my Union rep. & told them what was going on & showed them the letter stating i should be using the ladies room. He gave me a copy of my file & we talked about what is going on. He is willing to change the name on my badge right away if i wish. He asked if they could have a week to figure out how to handle the rest room issue. It kind of scares me as to how nice they were to me( not normal for my place). I told him i wanted to make this as comfortable for them as they would for me(no waves). They seem to be very thankful that i was looking out for others in the shop as well. They asked about making people call me by my female name. I said that the forman only use it when he gives me my job in the morning so at this time no, but still would like them to use the her, she phrases when i am present. I believe it all went well, what more can a girl ask for(wife to accept, thats all). This is the happiest i have been in years & if you are pondering your path take steps, small yet positive ones, & you too can be very happy.
Sorry this is long but when one feels like a very lucky girl she just seems to chat forever. Thank you all for being here, your wonderful. I hope that this helps someone on their journey. We are all family & really should help each other. THANKS so very much!
Love & tons of HUGS, Janelle

Glad to hear that it went well with your employer. I am in a similar situation I have already had a couple of good talks with two of the HR reps who handle the EEOC compliance policies at my employer. And today someone from the TLC was in town and was going to meet with my HR rep to discuss the issues that will be coming up regarding my transition on the job and also my rights and the company's responsiblity of complying with California Law regarding transgendered employees' rights in the workplace. My union rep is someone I havn't talked to yet, but I know that he knows about my situation through the grapevine. Someone I mistakenly told works in the same area as my union rep and you know how rumors and gossip gets around. They probably even talk about me at the other plant of ours.

Janelle,
Who wrote this letter stating you SHOULD use the ladies room.
I'm kind of confused here.
Take Care,

That letter was written by the shrink at the U of Minn. Human Sexuality Clinic. They did an evaluation, i took 2 tests,1 that took 1 hour & the other 2hours to do. I also filled out 4 booklets with 4 or 5 pages in it also. They understand that at this time i would like to start hormones, thus the tests to make sure that this is no game.
I hope this answers your ? but if it did not please P.M. me & i will see if i can explain it better.

Janelle,
No, that was consideraly more detail than I wondered about. I did work for a fortune 500 company in a plant environment as the Assistant Plant Manager. Very large plant ... over 2800 people counting all shifts. But the environment was "far" from typical considering the type of personnel and security aspect.
Take care, and good luck...
