Ive just found a place on the net where you can be a girl.
You create a character in a virtual world and you can be who you want to be.

That's interesting Andrea. You know what though? Somehow I get the distinct impression that I'm somebody else's avatar in a game being played somewhere. Can't seem to shake the feeling really. I wonder if this just goes on and on and on? I just hope whoever it is is having fun playing with their "dollies".

I just can't get Second Life to run right :(

I have a fast connection, a year old Mac and a so-so Windows box and Second Life just crawls. I've never paid for a subscription because the free trial is SO SLOW.

My Warcraft character is female, female with weapons.

Most of the MMORPG systems allow you to create a character of either sex. I currently play two MMORPG's and on both I have both a male and a female character.

In an older MMORPG, our guild leader's character was female, but the person playing the character was male. We did not find this out until almost two years later. A lot quit the guild, but I though, Alright a Crossdresser leader. I PM her later and told her that she was OK with me and I was fine with her screen character being female. She PM back saying Thank You. The guild continued on with her as the leader until the MMOPG shut down.

I would rather just be myself in this world than live in a fantasy world, life is what you make it, so try real life sometime, its miles better than fantasy

It does need a good computer. Make sure your firewall is set correctly. It could be blocking SL ports see second life support.

Go to one of the sites to test your network speed. I have comcast. It is slow on a modem if it works.

Being in the medical imaging field, the type of video card makes all of the difference in the world. Second is system RAM. Most hard core gamers and medical imaging systems run at least 1-2GB of system RAM or more. This alone with a really good video card that has at least 256MB of Video RAM will speed up your gaming. The biggest thing about a system is the system RAM. You need enough so that WinXP or MAC OS is load completely into RAM, plus your game and all the graphics sprites it uses, plus enough RAM to handel all of the arrays, pointers, and etc.
memory is realitive cheap nowadays. 512MB sticks are less than $50 each. So 1GB will cost you around $100. A really good NDVIA or ATI video card will cost you around $140.

On tip for gaming, always start the game from a fresh system boot. Don't start the game after you have surfed the internet and downloaded email. Too many programs have memory leaks and this will eat up memory like a Pac-Man. LOL

I have a seperate computer just for gaming. That way if I need to get email I use one computer for it and the other for the game.

I'm not into RPG gaming myself, but I know what you mean about the memory issue. I never figured out just why some programmers refuse to clean up their space when the program ends.

I know what you mean. I come from when you measured RAM in kilobytes and GOOD programs were written in Assembly.

The first computer I built only had 64 bytes of RAM and everything was hand assembled.

My very first computer was a ISMAC8080. It had 4K of main memory and you had to toggle in the program one byte at a time.

This is the same computer the kid was using in the movie "War Games".

Second Life seems to always be in self destruct mode. They (Linden Labs) can't seem to keep anything running for more than 5 minutes these days. And its getting worse.

Its been around for something like 3 years and is dying under the weight of only 20,000 users growing to almost 50,000 users within a few weeks at the current rate.

Was going on every day but the crashing and lag was too much.
They need to get off of PC based servers and go to mini or main frame. The pcs are just not good enought.

The MMORPG (EVE) that I play has two complete server farms. One which runs the game. The other is the test server where the same game runs but they test upgrades to both software and hardware. Twice in the last year they have added a ton of new blade servers and once they have completely replaced the server farm with newer higher speed servers. EVE on average runs around 20,000-25,000 users each day. At least once every two months, they push a update out the clients. At $14.00/month, at least I am getting my money's worth. LOL

I went on a few times and got my jollies creating and dressing my female figure. But I couldn't figure out the object of the game. I didn't pay to join and tried to "earn" money but never got anywhere.

I transported to a ***** house and asked everyone there for sex but got cold shoulder. at one point i took off all my clothes and just got asked to put them back on.

i still don't understand the object of the game

It is Second life. You get a job, buy land build your own house, you built and make things and setup a store and sell them. Once you own land you can rent it to people for their stores or to live. You explore and meet people and chat and gamble.
They get around the gambling laws because you are only gambling their money.

I have a job as a stripper in a club. Lots of fun with the role playing. Found I liked being a girl more that I would have guessed.

There are places where you can role play, dragons, wizards, fairies etc.
There is also internal games you can play with people like chess and others.

Some people have quit their jobs because they make enough on SL, programmers, graphic artists and animators’.

It is said there is a landlord that makes 150,000 real money a year renting in SL. Real clothing designers are selling their clothes in virtual form in SL. It is also said there was a gangster that create havoc and was deleted by SL.

Their money and economy is not recognized by the US so all you make and earn there is tax free. No taxes to report to IRS, until you convert it to real money. Technically you can leave most of your earnings in SL and spend it there and never report it. Some SL stores sell real goods you can buy with SL money.

I have a free account and have made over 10,000 $L. I have never given SL any real money!

I have about $7,800 now. I plan on selling stuff when I get the time. Have practiced building and scripting, so I have skills.

FYI there are specific places for sex. Everywhere else you are expected to keep your clothes on. You can be banned (by property owners and SL) for walking around without clothes in most places. The only way to have sex is with post balls (programs). So the sim has to be setup up just for sex. I am seeing fewer places. It takes time and money to maintain them most people have a RL.

If you make enough money in a MMORPG like SecondLife, a lot of people will sell SL money on Ebay for real money. So if your short on cash, you can buy SL money off ebay. The person selling it will then deposite it into your SL account online.

Also they will know your sl name.

You can get a better deal on ebay though, about $L5,000 for $21, the last I looked.

There are many of "us" in SL

I have an old machine running a P-3 900 512MB ram and a 64MB video card that runs Second Life just fine. It does not look pretty as I have to scale the graphic details down but it runs.

I just use this one with an alternate Avatar for camping (In other games it's called farming) . It just sits in one of the casino's and picks up free L$.

CarlyI am a married straight male and as a dancer in SL I have to flirt with the men to get tips. I actually like it, (did I say that?).

Off the club I get guys making passes and I do not mind and sometimes “catch” them. Had an 18 year old (at least that is what his profile said), tell me that if I had any trouble with any guys IM him he will take care of the guy! Weird!

I did a good job of my avatar because I get lots of comments off club and on. I seem to be getting better tips in shorter time. But I feel that is because I great and talk to people including females.
So it is rather nice being a female. In reality I could not flirt with men, I do not like them. I would also miss the attention of women, smiles and greetings.

I would also agree Jane. Both my dancer and my Bounty hunter gets flirted with alot and I do alot of flirting in return hehe. But there is no way I could do that in rl (real life). It's also neat in how the guys go out of their way to help me and I also can't complain about all of the gifts I have recieved. It's the little things like that, that in real life I would never get to experience that many gg's get to do and in the rpg's Carly has the chance to do.

Before I got a job at the club I hung out there. One guy gave me $L100. I had no money at the time. I said why the g note. He said I want you to take you clothes off. Mind you there were dancers taking their clothes off. That $100 would have helped. ($150 for the top to come off and $400 total for the bottom.)

Another day a guy said "what do I do with all this money". I just shouted give it to me, just being silly. And he did! It was $1000.

I know real life is different for women but this is nice.
