Are waistlines on women's clothes usually higher than on men's clothing?

yes, I beleive a woman's waistline is around her navel...while ours is above our hips.

Yes it definately is. My women's jeans pull up over my belly button. Look nice too. They're more like denim leggings... Nice, tight, and show me off a bit too.

Waistlines for man and woman are about the same (ca. around the navel).
Problem is that men are usually taller. Hence the back-waist-length is bigger.
Clothes for tall women have a better fit, but those are terrible hard to get.

I find that my male clothes look best when the top of the waistband is just below my navel. For fem clothes, I put my "waist" at the narrowest part of my torso, which is a little less than an inch above the top of my navel. So figure about 1-1/2 inches difference between the two. It makes a considerable difference in two ways - first, by shortening my long torso. Second, it lengthens the appearance of the upper legs.

Plus, I absolutely hate it when skirts ride down, and a skirt that fits the waist perfectly, right at the narrow point, is less inclined to go anywhere.

I agree Erica. A proper fitting skirt will stay where it belongs, but if you have a spare tire there, it's not gonna work as well. I find that a waist cincher works well for sliming the waist so it will stay in place like it should.

That's why getting rid of the pot belly is so critical for looking "right". Nothing screws up the fit of women's clothing like extra weight in the stomach.
