My girlfriend's uncle is a professional make-up artist and he has done several make-overs on me and I have watched him do some on others.

There is one simple thing which all girls should know about makeup, especially around the eyes - to get the great results you really do need to paint your face. Throw away all those silly applicators that come with make-up kits. You need to buy proper paint brushes - I bought mine at Body Shop.

When applying eye make-up, moist the brush in water and then paint the powder around the eyes - with the moist brush it will spread easily and give an even finish. The real secret is in the blending - you must blend color changes into each other - again a moist blender is used for best effect.

But it all takes practice!
