Am "effiency/room" looking so I can finally be on my own and have my life back (long ugly story) and I have come upon a weird setup that seems too good to be true (locationally, financially and otherwise), but there has to be a piece that I am missing in this puzzle and I can't help but wonder.......

So.........

....any member(s) here living in North Carolina renting a room in a large house with 6 other middle aged guys ??? I am just curious to see if I KNOW what the "glue" is in this interesting setup.

If you were in Ca, NYC, or some areas of Fla, It wouldn't even raise an eyebrow for me. With the extremely high housing costs in those areas some people have to do that just to make it. In your part of the country though I agree there has to be a catch. This could be very good or very bad for you. the only two situations I can think of are a group of CD's ( I knew of a place like this in Az.) or ex cons trying to start over. The first of course would be a dream come true for you, but the second could prove very dangerous if you slip up and accidentaly out yourself while living there. I would be asking some pointed qustions. A safe one might be, " how will the other tenants feel about someone with feminine tendancies?".

Just pick up a good CD movie, play it in the main room and note their reactions. You'll figure it out pretty quickly.

If there's any way possible..... get a place by yourself. Even if it has a roll-out bed rather than a bedroom, it'll be so much better. I'm single and have my own home. It's wonderful.

I know a large private home in the woods would be much better, but I'm gonna be paying for one like that that I'm leaving (for a GG to occupy/own ... get the picture???) so a cheap room is all I have left. These "guys" all do a meal out together on Friday night as part of the rent (translated owner of house's TREAT !) My brain says there is a common interest among the occupants, all around my age, and divorced.....hmmmmmmm.

For starts I'd check with the local police and see if any one at that address is listed as registered sexual offender under Megans Law!! And maybe try one of those reverse people lookups online that tells you who lives at what address... Then google their names and see if anything interesting pops up!!

www.intelius.com - just checked this and for $20 you can do 24 hour unlimited people searches, background and criminal checks are extra..

Also www.411.com its amazing what's out there when I look up my name!!

Ohhh and Em.... I'm looking at your neighborhood... And it says I can get an apraised value on your house!! Lol. And when I go to Google Earth I can look in your driveway... Any good fishing in that big lake just to the west of your house?? Hehe

And let me ask my wife if you can us the kids shower.... As long as you don't mind sharing it with a 16 year old with a bad attitude!!

Em, I see and agree with what you are thinking. Maybe you just need to break out the extra courage and ask/tell, and see what the deal is.

As far as Megan's law, you can look it up on the net, and at least in California, you can pick any neighborhood, and you can see just who and how many registered sex offenders are there, with pictures of them sometimes.
But I think if I where going to try that, I would not unpack anymore than I had to, until I knew if I was comfortable there, Just being middle aged, and divorced, may not be enough to have in common!
