hello all crossdressers, my name is Hanna Hall, I am attending Vancouver Film School, and I am making a documentary on cross-dressing. Some of the subjects we will be covering are, what are the joys of cross-dressing?, what are the hardships? We want to take a personal look at what it is like to be a cross-dresser, while bringing awareness to the subject. We take the respect, and privacy of the people we are going to interview very seriously, but with that said we want to have fun exploring your world. We are on a very tight time frame, so please contact me with any further questions, or interest. My e-mail is,

Hi there, I am a GG, and a protector, if you have looked around, you will know what that means...
And just in case you get no other replies, please understand something, it will not be because they don't want to tell you their stories, God, they do. We all want the world to understand and accept, but because of society, they are left with little choice, but to live in seclusion. Please note that. They are not "In the closet" by choice, it is by force. Society has forced them to hide. Aren't we proud, as a part of this society? Hey, do me a favor? Really, take the time to look around and see what kind of damage has been done. I think if you had in the first place, you probably would have understood how silly it may have been to post this here in the first place...
Please understand, this is just my opinion and I am VERY protective of these Ladies. They have been through so much already. If you have a black screen, you may have more willing to come forward. But that is a whole other topic, still must stay in the shadows. Again, thank you society, but...
They have families. They have lives. They have bosses and friends and Mom's and Dad's and kids and grandkids and do I really need to go on?
"but with that said we want to have fun exploring your world. "
Really? Again, you should read a bit more. Try the depression thread...
I am not saying these wonderful ladies here do not make the best of what they have, but fun isn't always on the menu...
If you indeed want to help them, read all the posts, gather the necessary info and blast this society we live in. They all have suffered in their own ways, far too long...
This is just my opinion, that one of a GG, and if I am wrong, believe me, these Ladies will step up and tell me so...
Sorry if I popped your bubble, but life is more than that...
100% GG...

I have to agree with TrueGemini's wife. Myself I could never appear in a documentary of any type. In my line of work, It would cost me my job. Not only that but all benefits as well. My wife and I depend on these for our future.

I have seen a few of these CD documentaries, one on a Prime Time network, and, as hard as they try, they never seem to be able to make our world seem viable and real. They try to cover the whole spectrum of Transgender in 40 minutes and it just ends up looking like a nice version of Jerry Springer.
Maybe if a CD makes a documentary film, it will at least have more substance and realism... if it is at all possible!
Some realistic, full-length movies may do the subject more justice.
Hanna may have good intentions... but I just don't think another CD documentary is going to help the community very much. :(

"...but with that said we want to have fun exploring your world. "
Having to live a secret life, lying to friends and loved ones, and waiting around day after day for the rest of society to accept you isn't much fun. This isn't a game for us. Not trying to bash your idea here, I'm sure your intentions are good, however I don't think comedy and light-heartedness are a good way to present us to the public. The media often uses this approach to show us to the public, and it only seems to hurt us more and more as a community.

a good job tonight, not on cds, but on ts's. Radio is a very good way to approach it, I think. It was about a twenty or thirty minute look at ftm transitioning. They let the "guys" tell their own story, which is a rarity, I think. Most of these types of "investigations" are done by some reporter who doesn't have a damn clue how to present it with any sort of compassion. I wish you luck. We do need to come out and be proud of who we are, but most don't because we are most often taken for fools, and made out to be even worse.

Bravo to Chrissy..
Let a CD'er do a documentary on CD'ing.
Want some suggestions, lurkers? I have a list...
Val Sweetie, I am sorry, but I knew you and some others, were going to pick that one right out.
To all of you out there lurking and thinking about your documentary?
If you are going to do it, do it right. They need help being understood, not being pushed further into the closet...
Lots of Love to all you Ladies..

Pattie, you are spot on. Thank you!
Crossdressing to me can be like an afternoon High Tea. There are days I'd love to celebrate with Earl Grey tea and apple pie. Other days I'd prefer foxglove tea and belladonna berry pie. The former is delightful, the latter will make it the final High Tea.
Fun? I wish.

Hanna,
Hopefully some of the Tgirls that are 'out' already will be able to help you. In other words, look for crossdressers who already venture out dressed and those who do not worry about anyone else finding out.
You can try to get volunteers at http:crossdressers-forums.com/forums also. However, ask the site administrators if it is ok to seek volunteers or your post will simply be deleted.
I sincerely hope that the documentary will address the fact that this is not a hobby, but a gender disorder much like that of transexuals but without the feeling that we are born in the wrong body and do not feel we need to undergo any surgery to correct our gender appearance.
May I ask why you have not contacted trangender organizations for input? Or have you?

If anyone is truly interested in supporting this effort, I'd suggest contacting the Vancouver Film School directly to verify the legitimacy of this effort. I've no reason to doubt Hanna Hall in her post. It's just that this falls in the category of being extraordinary. Anyone considering trusting their personal information to someone they've never met should first make certain the offer is real.

Pattie, you are spot on. Thank you! . . . Fun? I wish.
I absolutely agree, Stephanie! I was thinking of writing about the same things, but Pattie said it better than I possibly could. :) The only thing that I would add, for Ms. Hall's benefit, is that many of us also have huge physical security concerns. Many men who wouldn't hurt a GG wouldn't hesitate to assault one of us.
... verify the legitimacy of this effort ...
YES YES YES. Why didn't I think of that? Duh.
They let the "guys" tell their own story, which is a rarity, I think. Most of these types of "investigations" are done by some reporter who doesn't have a damn clue how to present it with any sort of compassion.
Quite so, Chrissy! I'm currently working on an "oral history" of a different part of my life, that takes a lot of awareness to be presented properly. Being a member of that group (and someone that many of my subjects know) creates a level of trust that inspires long, informative interviews. Perhaps someone here will be up to starting something like that sometime.
================================================== ========
Ms. Hall - lest you think that we are being overly sensitive, we are the second most marginalized group in America right now. The most marginalized are the FtM crossdressers, who have fewer resources because they are fewer in number.
Psychiatry now maintains that the only two types of Transgender person are Transsexuals and Fetish Crossdressers. The former are considered to have a psychological disorder. The latter are assumed to have only sexual gratification as a motive. In other words, a lot of us don't even exist, officially.
By the way - and you had no way of knowing this - it would be helpful to us if you set a Custom User Title that included "GG" or some other indication that you are a genetic female.
Perhaps you could find a MtF crossdresser to work with you on this project.

You may have noticed that I didn't take this thread seriously from the beginning.
When I was a regular at MSN Chat, we seemed to get one of these requests every month or so. I never really checked into them but I assumed that they were either "Email Harvesters" or some troll pretending to be a movie director.
If you were a serious film maker... would you put out a general "casting call" like that? If Hanna is truly a film student... I think that she would have been taught better ways to find willing subjects to interview. (Like Vancouver doesn't have any CDs living there???)
Anyway... I really don't think any "stars" will be discovered today!!! :D

My suggestion to the grrlz is Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware)!
I agree with TrueGemini'sWife as well.
However, for Hanna and if you are legit, why don't you explain in detail the process and how you would go about protecting privacy and dignity? How would they be contacted? What would the procedures be? Would there be any reimbursement for participation and/or travel? Who is sponsoring the project and/or is their a grant supporting it--what is the name and source if so? How did you pick this subject? I have many other questions but answer those first.

I'm know that I'm a little late to this thread, but I think our Pattie mom (yes, we now have two "moms" ladies...Holly & Pattie!) summed up many of our feelings pretty well. Whether or not this is legit, I can honestly say in the 41 + years of being a CD, and now TG as well, I have never, ever thought of it as being a "fun" lifestyle, or something to be explored by a camera crew and/or other "curious" thrill seekers. Society doesn't accept us, period. If they did, you would see so many of us out there in public that it would make your head swim. There are many of us who would rather not be this way but they just can't give it up. There are others who can't give it up because it is for the most part, who they really are inside. I have seen a few documentaries done in the past, and while they were informative, I still don't feel that our community was served that well by these productions. Maybe, as was stated earlier, it takes a CD/TG/TS type to really tell our story the way it should be told, otherwise, the potential for exploitation, I fear, is very real here.
I would have no interest in participating in this even if it is legit.
Thanks again Pattie mom for havin' our back on this one!;)
Love,
Christine

I'm a little late to this thread to.... so here's my 2p!
Let's say this 'documentary' is for real.. I've seen a few and to be honest they paint a picture that is full of..... hey look at me... blah blah blah... they aren't real, they don't paint the real picture. They don't show you the bad sides, those in the closet, those with depression etc... So what is so different about the 'documentary' your making?? What can you do for these girls that would start to make society accept them for who they are?? Do you really care for these girls here?? Are you yourself a crossdresser??
I see there isn't more about this and the original person that started this thread hasn't yet said any more on the subject. I wonder why!!
I will be querying your school and finding out if this is legit or not. Hurting the girls here and leading them into false hopes can do more damage than you can ever imagine... I just hope your post isn't to get their email addresses and start spamming them!!

I've got a couple thoughts on this subject.
First, this is not a topic that needs to be covered in a film school doumentary. There is no way that crossdressing can be covered right in the constraints that a school setting would allow. Its not going to be covered in a way that is actually looking for the truth or the true life of a dresser. Its going to be presented as a grade in a class that's whole point is more about the process of the film than the subject matter.
Second, for a documentary to be done that would actually satisfy ourcommunity it would need a summer blockbuster budget and need to be longer than a Kevin Costner film. There are just soo many different types of us girls out there. You'd almost have to run like a week long series of at least hour long shows, if not 2-3 hours.
I think the idea is good, not knowing this person, I don't know what angle they are going to take with it. If done in a serious manner, and if they could protect the identites of those that wanted it well enough, something like this could be good. I'd need more details and a lot of assurances before I stepped in front of a camera, not to mention a lot of make up. Can we get the guys that did Ms. Doubtfire in here????? How about Tootsie???

Hanna, I don't believe that for one moment that you could be serious about a documentry about cross dressing. If you had been just a little bit serious, you might have read up on the subject some first, but to say that you would have fun with it is just not a good way to attract cross dressers to talk about it. You don't have the time that it would take to present our stories, there are way too may reasons why we cross dress and there ain't too many who can tell you why we do it. So my advice is to go talk with Jerry Springer, he seems to have all the answers. Just my two cents.
Rikki
